Tokai Les Paul & Tokai SG Live Test Comparison
Same exact settings on the amplifier and pedals. The amplifier is a Fender Super-Reverb and I was using the Chellee Pony Boy Overdrive and a Maxon OD-808 overdrive pedal.

I have been turned onto the SG recently by Derek Trucks, and you've definitely cemented my love for that shape now, Shane! Sounded wicked!

BOTH sounded great! I am lucky as I have heard you play both guitars in front of me. They DO sound different. The LR definitely darker/thicker than the SG. Wouldn't kick EITHER out of bed!

They both sound great, good thing you don't have to pick one or the other. I guess if I had too it would be the SG. I like the bite and the fret access is killer. Seems you can always roll off the tone but never add brightness when you want it.

all sound good , sg is brighter but still a good fit in the mix , ima thinking you need a tokai v and a endorsement deal , a great deal for both parties

Hi and thanks for your great videos. I actually acquired a couple of days ago a Tokai SG cherry made in china that really hit me as soon as I touched it. Incredible high quality and sounding guitar, for the price very hard to beat. I am wondering if you suggest a change of pickup. I have a couple of seth lover on my sheraton which I love and I am wondering if the Tokai needs an upgrade on pickups. Thanks in advance

I was sort of doubting if I should get one of the Chinese Tokais... Or save up for a Japanese. Saving for the Japanese Tokai will take a loooong time. I think I'm just going for a Chinese Tokai =)

I bought a Japanese HLS245SQ for $2K here in Tokyo last year, and now to get the exact model but made this year will cost nothing less than $3K. Even still, they are worth every penny.

Which model do you have? I am thinking of buying Tokai SG-43 or ALS-48. I could afford both I think, but I have other things to buy too, so maybe one guitar is enough.

Curious what PA setup you are running, I see the amps mic'd and the drums as well...I'm interested to hear what FOH mains, subs etc you are running here. Both sound great, but the Les Paul is fantastic!

I want an SG, but every one I see on Reverb is different from the next. Some say used....some say brand new. Some have the Gibson style headstock, some have something slightly different. Some have deep bevels on the horns(front and back) some don't. Some have deep bevels on just the font and no bevels at all on the back...some have the long bevel on the body where it hugs your waist making the guitar nice and thin and comfortable(that's what I like) while others are more like Epiphone and are very thick. Why are they all so different? Do they not have a standard at Tokai? Or are there fakes being produced?

How can I see how good these guitars really are when they are being played through tube amps and numerous pedals. I would just like to here them played into a small practice amp, clean and distorted that way I know how they really sound

+jadefire1985 He wanted to do cover band stuff which was all good so we got Brian. Brian is a monster player he's one of the best players in Australia. :-)
