This was my first (and still only) electric guitar. I absolutely love it

I have one of these (thanks for this video) and have to say myself too, that it's really great cheaper SG. I put Seth Lover to neck and change UOA5 magnet to Tokai's own stock MK4 pickup and that to bridge, then i put polka dot kind of marks to body, other than that didn't need to change anything else. Great guitar!

I have a recently acquired Korean Tokai SG...identical to the one in the video. It's one of very few Asian import guitars that I have made no modifications to...other than strings, bridge height etc. The pickups are actually very nice, I see no reason to change them. Wiring, pots, caps, etc. work fine...it has mini pots...but they work great and I'll leave it alone. Great sounding 6.9 pound SG right out of the box. If you like SG's and you see one like this at a good price, get it.

Shane, I believe on the Japan SG what Tokai did is more of a late 70's Wine Red for the finish. On this guitar they did more of the older style Cherry Red finish. The one thing I like that I wish the Epi G-400 models would have is that the neck being bound like on this Tokai. It sounds great and I wouldn't change a thing on it. Congrats on this one along with the Les Paul Standard model. I thought both of them sounded great when you were playing in the club with your band from the video I watched earlier today.

Killer axe Shane, like you say it's nice and bright. I will say though I'm kind of over that Movall amp, I miss your fenders. I know it's not very practical but I'd love to hear some demos using your super reverb.

+Daniel Jeffries Yep! It's on the way out mate. I will go back to my Blues Deluxe coming up this month. Once the last of the Aleks K Production pedals are finished. It's Fender all day again :-). I can't use my Super-Reverb at home it's too loud :-( Once I move though, I'll be able to crank it. I'll make sure of that.

+intheblues Maybe less powerful preamp tubes will help in the fender?

I tested the super-reverb into my isolation cab and it sounds fantastic. It's like a fat deluxe reverb so I'll be going over to that really soon :-)

Nice review, mate. I have a lefty 2005 USG70 MIJ - just a lovely, lovely guitar bought in the UK. You really do the Tokais justice on your channel and they've always serviced the lefty market really well, my first ever guitar was a Tokai Strat back in the mid-80s. The quality on the Japanese models is off the charts, prob better than most of Gibson's except the high end ones. In fairness, my stepson is lucky enough to have a Gibson custom shop Angus Young, which is one of the all time best guitars I ever seen - the curse of the lefty is that I can't play it! If anyone has a lefty 335-style they want too offload - let me know! ;-)

Don't like the greenish tuning pegs but it doesn't matter, all about the tone and it's a killer!

Hola, mi inglés no es bueno, no entendí, prefieres la epiphone o la tokai, quiero comprarme una sg, y estoy dudando entre epiphone y tokai. Gracias.

I recently bought I Tokai SG made in china that iit s a really fine and well made instrument. The only problem I have is with the PU that to me are a bit dark and high output. I would like to know how do you feel with this PU, I am going to swap them for a pair on anlico 2 that are more bluesy oriented and low output

@DMSProduktions 9 лет назад
That's good too Shane. DOES it have the same pick ups as the Tokai LR you bought? I thought the LP style sounded a tad thicker than the SG, but not a lot in it. NATO body on this 1. Just WATCH the necks on these Chinese Tokais. The maple 1s tend to be slab sawn, and I had problems with my Rebelrocker Ric 330 style. Frets needed tapering to play right.

Sounds great! Like an early Townsend tone. Can you get these in the uk?

+Steven Dyche Hard to find in the UK but Absolute Guitars sell some Tokai models.Your best bet is Bax Shop--which are Dutch I believe but have recently set up a UK website(competing with Thomann maybe?)and they have got loads of Tokais listed.Good prices too. This SG is £268.

Hi Shane. The Amazon link doesn't take you to your stuff. It was also hard to do a search for it in Amazon. I want to get a t-shirt.

Just out if interest, how much you recomend buying a LH MIJ tokai sg98? Possibly have the chance to pick one up for around £700. So just wondering if they really are worth it. Because I here a lot of people saying MIJ tokais quite often play better than there gibson counterparts. Cheers.

Did you end up getting it? I’m looking at a 2012 MIJ right now…

@BlackClawDoom 3 года назад
@@prandz420 yea! Found out the one I was looking at was an old 1984 MIJ Tokai so 700 was actually a really good price. Had it a good year now and it’s hands down my favourite guitar, and it’s one that I will definitely never be selling.

Clean that sounds as thin as paper.... horrid tone setup, surely it cant have such crappy pups in it to produce that thin sound. Maybe you need to tweak the tone a tad

4w is lousy for demos Shane. Use a proper amp m8.
