Thanks for doing this review. I've always been curious about how mirror lenses might work with mirrorless cameras, especially what bokeh benefits might be realized from their designs. One of the main attractions of micro-four-thirds is the light-weight kit they offer and your review makes me wonder if, say a 800mm mirror lens, might be made light and capable of autofocusing on an OM-1 or Lumix G9 (2) for instance. Having used Canon SX60hs and 70hs cameras I've come to realize that there are times when reaching beyond 1,300mm's or more can be quite useful. As I remember, mirror lenses are great for correcting chromatic aberrations and there might be a real market among birders for a light-weight AND sharp catadioptric lens that puts an emphasis on performance over cost. This would be especially useful for MFT cameras with their smaller sensors.

Bruce thanks for watching. Yea I did hear that Canon has recently filed 2 patents on auto focus mirror lenses if I am correct. By the way what M43 cameras are you shooting. Just picked up an OM5 and might be comparing it against the R10 canon. The OM5 with the 100-300 pany is super light, fast better bokeh than the r10 with the 100-400.

@@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE Stafford, I'm still shooting the original G9 or the OG9 as I call it now. While not as advanced as the top tier Sony A1, Canon R5 or Nikon Z8 cameras the OG9, as you know, is surprisingly capable. I've managed to improve its performance by applying AF tips from RU-vidr Matt Granger and those from Lumix using my Lumix 100-400 lens. Despite the 800mm, 35mm equivalent reach of the 100-400 lens, I found myself using my Canon SX60hs and SX70hs to reach out further and not disturb nesting birds for two of my Audubon contest entries this year. If Lumix could pull off a 700 or 800mm mirror lens with AF and Leica-influenced quality that might be the Lumix answer to Canon's 600 and 800mm fixed aperture long glass. Of course, maybe the best answer is the new Lumix 100-400mm lens that accepts teleconverters that have been earning good reviews.

Wow,very beautiful photos. That sparrow video and video quality was a real surprise. It looks really good. Those blue jay photos and even the squirrel would not look out of place in a nature publication. The photos looked quite artistic.I guess the current fad for ultra sharp images is moving a bit away from the art of photography. New subscriber here and a Tonika 500mm arriving tomorrow. You helped a lot of people like me on a budget.Thanks.

Hi sir I ended up buying a Sony Alpha 6400 instead of the p1000. It's a beautiful camera and I'm glad to have the diversity of lenses to buy after the fact

I agree with you there.Nice to see a reviewer who includes people who are on a budget like I am. It gives us hope as amatuer photographers. His photos with this budget lens look better than many I saw by latest tech loving hotshots here on You Tube.
