The story is sweet but, at the same time so sad... I know in general you could say it's pretty simple, but somehow I felt it deeper, maybe kinda in a personal way. You can see the girl is living by herself, wich shows her independence but at the same time she's attached to her pig plushie, what shows she is still young and have a innocent side too. Then she starts daydreaming about flying through the city sky and fighting against the giant roach monster. And all this made me think about how we're pushed to grow up so fast, and take responsabilitys to prove that we can do things by our selves. But, at the same time, while trying to fit in this society's logic we end up leaving some of our dreams behind once we can't dedicate to them, and all the adventures we dreamed about can only fit in our imagination during our boring common days... Well, you can say I'm overthinking and I won't necesserally disagree, but I still think this animations says much more than the simple story it looks like. Amazing work! (sorry for the eventual english mistakes)
I’m watching this eight years later and to be honest your comment is so astonishing that I think I might actually prefer it over the video itself I mean like it’s an animation but your comment is one of the best comment I’ve ever heard and deserves way more likes than it did I completely agree with your statement and think it was a genius thing to say and you’re probably not even gonna read this message but just to let you know thank you because that comment made my day❤
This is incredibly done. So polished and so much thought, love and detail put in. It's very refined and the animation is excellent. It's a simple story line, a busy young girl wishes to temporarily escape her mundane chores and tasks by going deep within herself and gets momentary lost in her own world. I really enjoyed this film. I wish it didn't have so much of a typical Pixar feel to it. Though, this is only a short film with only so much to squeeze in. I am sure future work from all the members of this team shall be far greater than how lovely it is already.
Those who are alone, those who don't have a voice, often have great imagination. Creativity. Artistic taste. And there is a certain beauty in silence. Notice how the girl said nothing throughout the entire film? There's a building sense of monotony that's broken up suddenly as we get a peek into her vivid imaginations. This is a real special kind of art and film direction.
Okada-san, I remember that when I was a child, I saw the thumbnail of your short called CHILDREN and I was scared. But today, I watched it and this short too and I loved them both. You can bring something so macabre in appearance with one short, yet something so gorgeous in another.
I never thought something so mundane could be turned into something so interesting. I usually have a problem with animations that try to look to realistic. I don't mind this style at all. I'm in awe of all the details. I could just pause a single frame and soak it all in. On another note, that cockroach has a pretty nifty smile. 3:41
Just imagine it as a short series on TV. That would be really cool. I love this kind of story, it's just, daily life and, with a sprinkle of day dreaming. Love it.
I love how the clothes fold as she move. Not sure if it's animated or it's a feature. Also the visuals are cinematic and not enough to just upload it to RU-vid and websites.
You think 2 years is old? RU-vid's genius algorithms recommend me 5..7-years-old stuff pretty often. And it might not be that bad if it wasn't the stuff that I already watched multiple times :q
OMG i can relate to this! I too feel lonely sometimes and think how boring everything is. So i start to imagine my own world and how it feels like to be free and when start hearing or seeing something i don't like, i start to imagine a scenerio where I'm the hero and i get to fight! This was a cute animation! This might not be the message here but maybe it has something to do with escaping reality? Idk, but awesome job!
This animation touched my heart. In my interpretation, this video is telling me that no matter how old or "adult" you become, your imagination will always stay vivid and can be your momentary escapism from the struggles and maybe staticity? of adult life lol. Thank you Takuya for sharing this with us!
amazing animation ... for me living in a developing country I always thought life in a developed country is less boring or stressful but this animation helped me to see that life is the same shit for all the people ... unless you are rich
It was really great, l loved the smal details in her room and the smal micro expressions she kept on making. It gave her a lot of personality without even needing to say anything. Can't wait see what els you have and will create in the near future ^+*
This was really cool! The animation was pretty fluid and the shading, the rendering, everything was really nice and atmospheric. Ingore those who say it's random and think "wtf Japan" and appreciate it for what it actually is. It basically showcases the life of a single woman in her apartment after getting home from work. It's funny how people can get attached to something lifeless and give it worth. All of us do it and whoever says they don't is simply being a hypocrite. The cockroach incident was just her exaggerating and thinking of it as something tremendous. It's not philosophical, that's for sure, but it's relatable and easy to watch. I would honestly watch a movie based on that xD
Ikr? "wtf Japan" is so overrated. I've seen many things in the US that are worthy as "wtf" moments. Especially it basically being a free country where people are being idiotic. I mean, it's not in a way bad or anything, but that's just double standard.
"Free"? Maybe like 100 years ago. Now it's mostly police state in which people don't realize it yet (well, maybe except Texas, but it was always separatistic). They think they live in democracy and have capitalism, while in reality they live in fascist state and have socialism. (And I know what I'm talking, I survived one.)
some people think that out of body experiences are lucid dreams, but lucid dreamers know that everything is not real but people having out of body experiences believe everything is real
idk why I feel the true story is the way more painful than I though. Like people in industrical city live such a busy life that they don't even have time to rest. And sometimes they imagine that they could have better life with emotions and adventures (like the girl's imagination when she is waiting the laundry). But they still know that in won't be real because they are restricted by the industrical world
That was lit animating skills right there, that was amazing! I can so relate to this girl as well. 😂 Yet again I say this was awesome !Keep up the amazing work love!💖
Very cute animation, the only thing I would have to critique was the blinking (the bottom eye-lid should have slid up a bit as well) Great job nonetheless!
The animation is magical! It isn't real, but it IS all at the same time! It's all too beautiful. But even better is the imagination! I also love when in her fantasy she has a magic light weapon, That was pretty cool too!
Very cool. Would've liked to have seen more of this (could've been longer). Been watching a lot of dark and edgy looking videos today (including "Children"). This is kind of refreshing.
Maybe others already made this connections, so sorry for the obvious. This strikes me as an ordinary relatable person searching for something more, bigger, and grander to give meaning to daily life, at least hers. Dreams are just how the desire manifests itself. Hence why people love stories.
I have looked for this video since I was 2 years out of high school. I could never find this video so I kept typing key words until finally.... I typed in" Tokyo Animated Short" I finally found you since the search from 2017
Beautiful i almost though this was gonna be like the trailer for a movie or something really nice animation this is that time when youtube decides to put actual good things in recommendations XD
Or that youtube recommend system doesn't work well, since most of the new comments are dumb or hateful towards this masterpiece. It seems like it's recommending it to random people
2:15 Great minds think alike, I suppose. In class I could never focus unless I make the day into some sort of adventure or I get bored and not pay attention. I survived work with a similar attitude.
That's RU-vid algorithms for ya :q It recommends all sorts of crap you don't want to see most of the time (even after you told it specifically that you dislike it - I think that it serves you even _more_ of it in that case :q ), but once in a blue moon it recommends something really good by accident :q (I guess it's the time when the Google bot's two single brain cells collide).
It's probably just someone sharing it and that share going viral somewhere and that sudden jump in views putting it up on recommendations for people with aligning interests, including "recently popular/viral".
