You guys need to do more travel/lifestyle run videos! Really enjoyed how you shared your experiences with this event. That would be so cool to have a similar format / coverage for races, culture and food from around the world.

Agree 100%. Listened to this during last long run before taper yesterday. This covered 2 of the 3 hours. And that time flew by. I thought funny at end of audio where u said, "if anyone one is still with us"... I'm thinking... want 1 more hour!! No, I NEED 1 more hour! I loved the Houston break down with all the details. Story of pre, during, post run. Post race breakdowns are the best. (lost wallet, angst re: food before race day, potatoes on a stick, chic alley ways, finding Mack, Quest to catch up, Bros event day bonding, tech toilets, and so many more)

Really entertaining podcast once again. It's always nice to hear your experiences overseas and the differences in culture and funny episodes. Robbie's karaoke episode with the 'long' goodbye at the lift is genuinely funny because I can picture it so easily. And also Thomas and his shower experience was a hoot. The micro towel to begin with ... I love it! Then the ending scene trying to get the tights on. Haaa! You guys are great. 😁👏

Loved your recap. I was running there too, behind you by quite a bit. :) My wife and I visited teamLab Planets our first day in Tokyo. It was amazing. I didn't know about your shake-out run. I would have liked to join you all. I did get in a couple of Parkruns while in Japan, so it is all good. Actually set my Parkrun PR in Osaka the weekend after the Tokyo Marathon. Anyways, the point of my comment is the Tokyo Marathon's cutoffs. You mentioned this during the podcast, but didn't go into much detail. It is more complicated than just a 7 hour finish time. They have 7 or 8 cutoffs through out the course. These close at a specific time of day, not based on your chip time. If you aren't past that points by the assigned time then your race is over. The intermediate check points have more aggressive cutoffs than the over all race. Meaning, you could be on track to finish well before the 7 hour time limit, but fall victim to an earlier cutoff. A poorly timed potty break could be costly. The slower runners, such as myself, need to know about this. My average marathon time is around 5h40m and I was mainly worried about the last 2 check points before the finish. I started in the last corral. I didn't even cross the start line until 27 minutes after the race started. They had signs at each check point stating the time it would close and what the current time was. The intermediate cutoffs motivated me. Thankfully, I had a good race in Tokyo and was always 30 or so minutes ahead of being pulled. Glad you guys had fun. It is an amazing place to visit. I'll definitely return.

Thanks for sharing. This was a great podcast! I’m hoping to do Tokyo one day but like someone mentioned to you guys the cutoffs are an issue. You mentioned it was 7 hours but just to note, it’s actually from gun time not chip time. Those in the back can lose 45 minutes, with disabled/Achilles runners going last. Plus you have 8 cutoffs to make along the way. The “quicker” ones in the beginning and at any point they will pull you. There is not even a one second grace period (they just pull a rope across the course). It’s one reason I’m choosing to wait at least another year.

I feel ya Robbe. I blew up at mile 18 during the Myrtle Beach Marathon this past Saturday and limped my way to the finish. The difficult ones make us stronger and make the good ones feel that much better. Here's to the next one!

I've been to Tokyo a couple of times so it was interesting hearing all the observations. My wife loves Pocari Sweat, and my son is really into Japanese toilets. The look and feel of Japan is just amazing, all the differences, and ramen alone is eye-opening. I've been living in Bangkok and it's interesting how lots of aspects across Asia are common or else competely different.

@@Believeintherun I was trying to think of where else you might visit, but of course main running events take precedence. Bangkok is interesting, and visiting China is novel. Seoul and Taipei feel more approachable than Tokyo, not so crowded, with people more open. If ASICS sponsored something in Honolulu that might be nice, related to the Japanese connection; that's where I am just now.

I think you guys should do more research before you got to Japan, next time. It comes off as foolish. TBH, Asics should have done a better job in preparing you. There are bike lanes on the street. You are supposed to ride on the street generally. But the streets are narrow and drivers are dangerous. There are also bike lanes on the sidewalks sometimes. Mandatory helmet laws were started in April. There is Japanese breakfast food, and western breakfast food, although not as common.
