The Tokyo 2020 Olympics were officially declared open in a heart-warming ceremony which culminated with Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka as the final torchbearer to lit the Olympic cauldron. Indian boxer Mary Kom and men's hockey captain Manpreet Singh led the way for Team India at the Parade of Nations.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games are taking place in Japan, from July 23, 2021 to August 8, 2021

Well done Japan hosting the world Cup under the current scenario. I think a lot of countries would've failed to host Olympics with the pandemic claiming so many lives worldwide. It also means heavens to the athletes who trained all their lives to compete with the best in the world. This really gives us hope and brightens or spirits after such a nightmarish year! Thx Japan 🙏

There are no audience and the activities are only limited according to WHO requirements. But it's ok, at least the athletes can focus even more without the shout of the audience.

Working for a company which used foreign interns - pre university boys and girls flown over and housed in dodgy accommodation on the outskirts of the city, I can imagine how in the pandemic it must've been difficult to get people to come up with ideas, to actually make it a big show - this show just reminded me of that type of sophisticated restaurant that would serve you a tiny sized portion on large plate, because of that light flooring.

It's a treat to video gamers to hear video game music from favorite Japanese titles in an international events as a fanfare for the athletes. Then we have the pictogram drama. xD Wonder how it will look like if no pandemic took place, and I thought it'd be grand knowing Japanese culture is rich in traditional, modern, futuristic and quirks. I miss traveling there. ;u;

Because dentsu, the greediest company in japan, fired an amazing director for tokyo opening ceremony and came up with this underwhelming ceremony. The original plan included akira, mario, and other jpop groups.

Honestly, Tokyo 2020/21 Paralympics opening and closing ceremony is a MILLION times better than this ceremony. Dentsu doesn’t know how to do an opening ceremony properly. All respect to those performers who took part in this ceremony tho.
