Toledo is a city in and the county seat of Lucas County, Ohio, United States. A major Midwestern United States port city, Toledo is the fourth-most-populous city in the U.S. state of Ohio, after Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati, and according to the 2020 census, the 79th-largest city in the United States. It also serves as a major trade center for the Midwest; its port is the fifth busiest in the Great Lakes and 54th biggest in the United States. The city was founded in 1833 on the west bank of the Maumee River, and originally incorporated as part of Monroe County, Michigan Territory. It was re-founded in 1837, after the conclusion of the Toledo War, when it was incorporated in Ohio.
After the 1845 completion of the Miami and Erie Canal, Toledo grew quickly; it also benefited from its position on the railway line between New York City and Chicago. The first of many glass manufacturers arrived in the 1880s, eventually earning Toledo its nickname: "The Glass City." It has since become a city with a distinctive and growing art community, auto assembly businesses, education, thriving healthcare, and well-supported local sports teams. Downtown Toledo has been subject to major revitalization efforts, allowing a bustling entertainment district.

When I was a kid in the 60s and 70s, downtown Toledo was a booming, hustle and bustle, fun place to shop and hang out. My very first real job was as a bus boy at "The Top of the Tower" restaurant, which was located on the top floor of the Tower on the Maumee building, back in 1976. Those were the days.

When I was a kid downtown Toledo in the 80s and 90s was a ghost town. The last decade it's had a lot of redevelopment you need to go when there's a baseball game or a concert on a Friday or Saturday night then you will get some more action going on. All around the arena the waterfront and the baseball field get lively. I like the old buildings wish they kept them all instead of tearing many of them down they had much better designs and architectural features than anything built this century.

VIDEO was taken primarily in the part of town that has government and business offices or industrial areas. Those offices were closed because it was Labor Day weekend. The roads in the parade area are blocked, so the driver could not go to the areas were there were the action was. You’ll notice all the parked cars.

If you'd been there another day--not a Saturday in 2022 on a holiday weekend--it might have been a bit livelier. Say 15 cars on the streets instead of 12. It was a much livelier downtown when I moved to Toledo in 1972, but so much had been lost by the time I left in 2006. Long before then, I referred to it as The Make-Believe Downtown.

Nah man, this is what downtown Toledo looks like on a weekend. I live here. Downtown is only busy during the week during work hours. It’s dead on weekends.

You should go down there on a summer night around 10 or 11 when there's a Mud Hens game AND a concert in the downtown park on Summit Street. It's definitely not sleepy then.

I grew up in Toledo but haven't lived there in years. Like many older towns in the Midwest and elsewhere, the central city is the least vibrant part of town outside of business hours. In recent times the area around the Mud Hens stadium adjacent to the downtown has become more active but the downtown itself, since it is not residential, is a dead zone once the business day ends. This is contrary to the structure of many coastal towns in the US where the centers are more residential and, therefore, more active and interesting. A more fair view of the city would have shown some of the numerous areas where people live and things are going on.

We moved here last month, from California, and only wish we had done it sooner. Big city amenities with the community feeling of a small town, which is what we wanted.

Lived in Toledo in the 70s. The downtown was a fun place to be then, but it was getting a bit seedy. Now, although it looks a bit cleaner, it also looks a lot more like East Germany during the Soviet days.

Yes, it is very clean looking. I like that many of the older buildings have been kept in such good condition. Toledo looks good to me.

Grew up in Toledo, left in 94. Lived in Atlanta, Kansas City, Baltimore, San Antonio, LA, Honolulu 7yrs, Miami since 2013. Let me tell ya, you could only pray for this kinda of peace. This is 6pm on a Saturday? WOW This is really dead. Which is kinda cool. 2AM on a Thursday night in Miami or LA you will be number 10 in line at McDonald’s or Taco Bell. 6pm on a Saturday evening in those towns? gridlock.

Yes traffic congestion is an awful thing to deal with especially on a regular basis it's nice getting anywhere in 20 minutes. Something you definitely take for granted until your in certain cities

I'm dizzy watching you do circles around downtown...explore every side of Toledo to get a clear aspect of how the city looks downtown can be boring until summer time that's when things pick up I don't see the point 🤔
