It's a shame so many jobs were lost over the last 3 decades. I lived in the area in the 70s and went to the old Navarre Elem school. Those areas you were showing around the Oak and Navarre areas were full of working-class families with kids playing outside in nice yards. We walked to Walter's Drug Store or Bill's convenience store next to it for candy. We shopped at the A&P down Navarre off Woodville. Occasionally, there was an ice cream store across from Walter's.
@railracer5886 I also grew up on the Eastside, we lived on Oak Street, also Nevada Street down near Miami Street, I when to Oakdale School, Navarre and Franklin for a short time, Waite High School for a short time!
That's my honetown and birthplace. Had family on Walden Ave. 50s and 60s were 💥. The neigh orhoods were beautiful and even in inner city and south Toledo. I loved the eastside. I think many cities are going through a shift. It will be revitalized and not the same, as periodically all things go through a shift and are transformed. 😉😘
Got to agree with you - lived in Toledo during bad economic times - it was tough to be there - on my own, barely keeping a roof over my head... tough times. Lived in some pretty rough areas - East side and North End.
Yea, it's the East Side, not East End. Maybe you are thinking of The Old West End? You drove along my paper route, Navarre and Spring Grove. I have been out of there for 47 years! It has steadily gone down hill.
I WENT TO WAITE HIGH SCHOOL IN THE 70S AND IT WAS OK THEN CHERRY STREET OUT TO THE WOODVILLE MALL WAS FUN BACK THEN. I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN AND AROUND TOLEDO
Grew up on the east. I knew exactly where you were from the start of the vid 😅 i haven't been there since 2004. Only mistake you made imo was not making that left on price St. But thanks for the video
I grew up in Birmingham east Toledo on Bakewell st it is now a slum and with all the homes are trash so very sad how bad it is now I was there in the 60s to the early 80s now in Colorado I will never go back I pray for any still there so sorry for them
Bro also grew up in the B-Ham...2000 block of Valentine ..late 70's stayed untill 2022..in the 14 zip now...Raised 4 there absolutely loved it...All went to Birmingham and graduated from Waite. And very successful. Peter Uvagi still lives on Genesee by the library. ✌ T O L E D O
The Eastside is one of the worst sides of toledo..... It's trashy and a lot of crimes. 😢😢😢😢 and it seems the city doesn't want to help clean up the prostitution and crime... 😢😢😢😢 Also I moved into the Eastside and the next day my car got stolen. 😮😢 The police really didn't care so a friend at my work told me to look 4 blocks around my rental and I would probably find it. So I took her suggestion and it work I found it 4 blocks away and I called the police to tell them they came and told me. That the house in front of were I found my car. The kid that lived inside maybe the one that stolen it. I asked them to finger print it and they told me I was lucky to of found it. They didn't care. 😢😢😢
If I was you I would skip moving to Toledo and move to Fort Wayne. Fort Wayne has much more going for itself it's a much better city and the people are much nicer
Don't do it you will regret it I is a dead city I used to live there I last lived in Williston Ohio but if you like Ohio stick to the little towns good luck
Check your power steering fluid. Sounds low or pump is getting ready to quit. You drove by 2 closed Churches on Nevada St. My church, Martin Luther went bankrupt & sold at auction. Another church on Sixth St. you did not drive by is closing. Lots of delipidated house with grass needing to be cut. Lived my first 18 years in neighborhood you drove through at beginning of video. I moved back in 2004 & the East Side is going down hill. But one good thing? Most of the empty houses when I moved back are occupied or torn down. Streets still need work. Weird thing East of Maumee River. A House with a 05 zip code is worth $25,000. Go to Oregon or Northwood. Add $100,000. Guess I need to have my house moved?
