Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 is the seventh installment in the Rainbow Six series. It is a first-person shooter video game and the sequel to Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas. It was announced by Ubisoft on November 20, 2007. The game was released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on March 18, 2008, in North America and March 20, 2008, in Europe, except in Germany, where the game was delayed. The Microsoft Windows version, however, was delayed until April 15, 2008.[3] It was released in Japan on April 24, 2008, for the Xbox 360[7] and on May 29, 2008, for the PlayStation 3.
Logan Keller, the lead character from the previous game, had been removed in favour of having the player create their own character to play through the campaign. The player assumes the role of Bishop, a member of the Rainbow squad with a great deal more experience who has a deeper involvement in the story.
The game, billed as "part sequel, part prequel", has events that run both before and concurrently to the story of Logan Keller and continue after where the first game concluded. In addition to the ability to customize a character in multiplayer, the player can now customize Bishop, Vegas 2's protagonist. In single-player, the developers claim to have vastly improved teammate AI, so that now teammates cover each other as they advance. There are also several new commands, for example, the ability of a teammate to throw a grenade at a specific point. It is also possible to give commands to one's AI teammates using the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 headset, or a PC microphone.

Balthazar I literally quit playing the game after finding myself stuck in that solo refinery level on Realistic, when you spend twenty minutes in a single section trying to kill people and hiding when shot and then immediately dying when enemies just spawn around the corner and one shot you.

@MilanVoorhees
@MilanVoorhees 6 лет назад
the Vegas sub-series was an extreme case of dumbing the series down, have you even played any of the first three games
@hakeempierstorff6964
@hakeempierstorff6964 6 лет назад
Mygirlhatesmyheroin there dumbed down but so much more fun than the previous installments
@MilanVoorhees
@MilanVoorhees 6 лет назад
a game being fun does not necessarily translate well to it being a worthy installment in a series and the Vegas sub-series was a prime example of that, it introduced the series to an era of depriving long-standing franchises of their trademarks so as to casualize them and make them more approachable to newcomers - which I don't have an issue with, I understand such moves, but publishers don't think of making any sort of a compromise most of the time
@MilanVoorhees
@MilanVoorhees 6 лет назад
and it should go without mentioning that the concept of "fun" is a rather vague and subjective one - I had fun drawing a plan for one of the missions (the one at an airport) in Raven Shield, while you might think of that as tedious and too much involvement in a video game that they were unique is what made them stand out for me, whereas I felt the Vegas games were quite bland and lacking of any memorable peculiarities
@Gameprojordan
@Gameprojordan 4 года назад
@@MilanVoorhees i say the vegas series did a good job at combining both old style tactics aswell as a new more streamlined gamestyle. obviously its nowhere near up to par with the first rainbow six's planning but it was good enough and not overly tedious. though i did find the way you and your team mates had fixed health bars in rainbow six 3 gave it more of a challenge compared to regenerating health. siege on the other hand just feels like call of duty with traps and "hero classes". also another thing i hated about vegas 2 was the pvp had almost no tactics, people just ran in hip firing and spam crouching 24-7

These days, the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter PC titles (Developed by GRIN on their Diesel engine nowadays famous for it's use in the PAYDAY games) are pretty much no longer sold digitally (I think Ubisoft pulled them after the GameSpy shutdown), but they are available on disc and have one shockingly well-archived collection of community modifications, and I think I caught wind of a multiplayer revival project. I haven't played them myself, but there's some potentially rare merit to be found within these games (Towknee's showcase of weapons such as the MP5 within the game displayed the ability to not only account for the round in the chamber, but allow it to be fired mid-reload and have the reload animation change to account for it). I certainly had me some quality time with the GRAW titles on the Xbox 360 in my youth thinking of them as "The closest thing to Brothers in Arms in a modern setting". Perhaps the biggest aging factor that I immediately encountered in an attempt to revisit them sometime ago was the horrendously low aim-sensitivity that cannot be adjusted (Something that made revisiting BLACK as someone who played games like Halo & Destiny at sensitivity 7-8/10 very difficult).

Dick Chavez actually made his debut is the Jack Ryan novels I believe and worked with and was mentored by John Kelly, one of the best Tom Clancy characters ever written, and was one of the founding members of Rainbow Six.
@chrisb364
@chrisb364 6 лет назад
49mozzer I wish they could've atleast included a nod to some of the characters from the book. Hell the older Rainbow Six games actually allowed you to pick just about every Rainbow team member from the book into your squads. They don't even mention John Kelly or Dick Chavez in Siege, they could have atleast included a training mission with Dick but they didn't. They had a lot of wasted potential there.

I loved this game's customizing system to death, I remember having the main menu theme burned into my mind from hearing it loop over and over from the many hours spent making tons of different character looks and loadouts. Sadly, games these days have mostly bare bones customizing that offers little fun

@hakeempierstorff6964
@hakeempierstorff6964 6 лет назад
Dr Strangelove I like the idea of adding new maps and operators every season but the new operators are getting so cartoonish. An operator who can deploy holograms of herself? And operator who can inject nano-machines into her teammates which gives them more health and recoils control? Siege is supposed to be a realistic tactical game but it gets more cartoonish and archady with every season.

It worked more times than it failed.

This was my fave fps game in the ps3 era. Realistic difficulty is so challenging and it was so fullfilling to finish a mission or even their skirmish mode with ai. I love the concept of having a squad which you can control and strategize, unlike cod games which ai firefights seem scripted. The ai teammates and terrorists are both good and stupid. I've only experienced the Vegas series by backwards compatability on Xbox One. Around the Christmas Siege came out I got the game, but it was a special edition loaded with two codes for Vegas one and two, and I honestly preferred them to Siege at the time. I loved the cover based shooting, and more of the tacticality. It's an amazing game, I can't wait to get my PC to play Vegas two on there, it seems much better than console.

Cool little note. Ding is actually one of the original founding members of Rainbow. Second in command to John Clarke, played by Willem Dafoe in clear and present danger.

man ... i remember this game, played "the shiiieeet" out of this game PVP, realistic TH, and joining random realistic storymodes on XBOX Live back in the day - was a legit lvl 92 Elite. Gameplaywise one of the best RB6 Games - it was so much fun, even when sometimes unfair (realistic terrorhunt & SPAS onehits - while you cant hit a barn door from 1 meter distance) Brought back good memories - i think ill get it a run now, didnt play it for years thanks for this review :D

I tried the texture-mapped face long ago, and I thought it was just my mullet messing around with the registering of my face...but it seems like I wasn't the only person having problems with it. Thanks for reaffirming that.

oh man. I spent hundreds of hours on this game. Such a good time it was. I never played vegas 1, but after playing this I never could. Ubisoft had a good handle on stealth games back in the day especially with splinter cell. So this game giving me options to either go stealth or full blown attack squad was really fun. This still exists to the day with all their ghost recon titles, rainbow six games never disappointed, and I say that because I've clocked nearly 2k hours on siege as well lol

What i don't like about this game and Ghost Recon future soldier is that terrorist hunt can get really cheap with the enemy spawnning, altho it can be more or less tweaked on PC.

Ok so I've only seen like 5 of your videos now and I havent started watching this one yet but I'm about to. I found out about your channel through Civvie11 and I just want to say I love your channel already. I was watching you Killzone video and I thought to myself "I wonder if he's played Rainbow 6 Vegas", I search it up and boom here I am watching the man who hss apparently played every game in history and reviewed them

Great review man. Still Imo I think that the funniest chatter at videogames award must go to the legendary Company of Heroes. For example when you order your volksgrenadiers to stop (the first basic crappy inf unit) the leader will shout "halt, I said halt! I feel like at the teacher at the boot camp" or when you upragade them with mp-40s "volksgrenadiers, try not to shoot each other" and as a last final example when you order your grenadiers to retreat, they sometime will shout "Grenadiers, tactical withdraw to Hq"

I STILL come back to this game sometimes, and I don't enjoy video games any where near as much as I used to growing up. Having played many other Tom Clancy games other than Splinter Cell Conviction (I think that was the title). Had some nice stealth gameplay but nowhere near as much replayability as Vegas 2. Even that main menu music is nostalgic. Probably my favourite FPS game in terms of gameplay. Love the ability to command your own small team in single player. The thermal sights combined with tactical stealth felt like something straight out of the Predator movies that I was a huge fan of around the time I was getting into the game.

Vegas 1 is my first ever FPS, my parents got it for me and my big brother when I was about 10 and I enjoyed every second! My dad finished the game himself soon after:) I'll never forget the frustration after getting the "to be continued" screen after completing the game

The multiplayer was awesome, and ahead of its time. The guns felt real, with realistic recoil, cover system, customization, shooting through thin wood walls and doors, blindfire, and teamwork. I tried to get my friends into this game when it came out, but they said it was too hard. They said you die so fast. I think thats why vegas 2 was not that popular. Because at that time, it was just too realistic. Not the graphics, but the gameplay.

Multiplayer was pretty fun for this game back in the day and the progression system was the same in it as all the other modes. Regardless of how you played the game, you could still level up and unlock new stuff.

People looking at the old games with rose tinted glasses is too true I kept seeing the positive reviews about Raven Shield and was very looking forward too it Except it didn't last very long when I realized how busted the A.I. is and completely throws any pre-planning and tactical gameplay out the window Vegas 2 might not have pre-planning or permadeath, but at least it doesn't have human sentry guns for enemies

I loved these two games so much. I still remember the ending speech - "Come to teach me another lesson Bishop?" "We both know it's too late for that" "Gabe stand down, this isn't worth it!" "No, you're right... but this is..."

i like how you can kill the guy at the end with your handgun before you even draw it fully, i remember my character just started to raise the gun and you could see a tiny bit of it at the bottom of the screen yet when i pressed fire it shot the dude right in the head and he rag doll'd to the floor in the funniest way

I felt really disappointed by the Terrorist Hunt mode in Vegas 2. I loved it in Raven Shield, but it seemed like no matter whether I used a suppressor or not, after I fired one shot every enemy in the level would converge on the nearest doorway for me to mow them down. I didn't get to see much past the open areas of the T Hunt levels as a result.

While to me Rogue Spear is where Rainbow was at its best, I still liked this game and the co-op was cool. And at least this game still had a fucking campaign in it and not just terrorist hunt which is basically a training mode in the latest game. And I'm not saying the new R6 is bad, it's just not what I want from an R6 game.
