Olympic gold medal winner Tom Daley talks knitting, gay rights and 2020 olympics. More Skavlan Twitter: / skavlantvshow Facebook: / skavlantalkshow Instagram: / skavlantvshow
Tom makes a very valid point. Why are international events held in nations where human rights are not valued? Why are we even asking this question in 2021?
@@louisdewit4429 my daughter is Dutch. Countries that join the EU must meet what are referred to as the Copenhagen criteria. The UK no longer meets these in several areas including human rights
@@kensurridge9631 - You mean for instance the blocking of free speech by government institutions by if necessary illegal prosecution on false terms and harassment of the individual by the legal system and if that doesn’t work just locking them up after court cases behind closed doors like a Melanie Shaw or Stephen Yaxley-Lennon ? This happens in the Netherlands as well. Democracy and human rights only exist on paper and by the allowance of those in power. And yes 👍 do they want to hold on. Served by the msm.
I, being an older gay gentleman, am so proud of this young, gay man. He is smart, socially aware and a great representative for the younger gay community. If most of the gay younger are like him, we are going in the right direction. Kudos, young man.
Great Job Tom! Thanks for shedding a light on how difficult the LGBT community still have it!! You are a great role model for the 'community'!! You make the UK, and the world very proud of you!!!! CONGRATS on all your success!!
I agree, I'm a proud straight guy and I'm equally proud of Tom, he is the best of British, Nice genuine man and at the top of his game as in an athlete
Been watching his career since he was 16 yrs old. Amazed and not surprised he's come so far in career and journey as an out and proud gay man. Str8 people don't realize we have to "come out" every day when we don't hide ourselves behind the artificial walls. But doing so publicly to the whole world as a Gold medal winning Olympic athlete - that's courage!
Actually, when he came out he was not yet an Olympic gold medal winner… medal winner yes, and some of them gold, but not Olympic. But, your point is well taken all the same.
I'm so proud of him. He has become a great role model for a successful coming out not only for athletes but for anyone who might be struggle. I'm so glad he's sharing his amazing family life with us on RU-vid and he's always so kind and simply adorable. Love him
BOTH Tom and Host were fantastic!!! Awesome job guys...this is how an interview should go. Respectful, fun, comfortable, welcoming, understanding, great communication and a positive delivery🙏🙏👍👍👏👏🗽🗽🇺🇸🇺🇸
Absolutely one of the BEST interviews with Tom Daley...thank you sweetheart for giving so much support to our community. Youve come a long way as I have been with you since your coming out days and you young man I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!! We are so lucky to have you here with us and CONGRATS on all your achievements thus far...WE LOVE YOU TOM❤XX
As always Skavlan never disappoints. Intelligent, thoughtful, respectful, kind, considerate and balanced interview in a short time slot. Bravo. Congratulations Tom for your Olympic Success and for your courage and candid opinions. Maybe Tom did lose some sponsorship?? but that is their loss because you cannot buy integrity or self respect and that is what Tom Daley has in spades. Pleased that he acknowledged extraordinary Greg Louganis who had a much harder time but helped pave the way for young Queer athletes.
What does someone's sexuality have at all to do with an athlete's results ? As Tom says so well. It shouldn't matter. Nobody is asking for anything more.
9:40 wise words. Not asking for any privilege just the right to be. To live. Period. I completely agree with Tom those countries shouldn't be allow to host events like this.
How nice to watch Tom Daley, being so proud of what he has done along the way of sports, particularly because he is indeed a role model for the LGBTQ community. Well done Tom. Keep it up and carry on for more success to come.
Great interview! The host was really gracious and love how he asked very significant and important questions with tact and delicacy. Kudos to you. And well done, Tom. You always give very thoughtful and intellectual answers. ❤
Tom is an amazing young man , and I'm so proud of him 🤗, he stands up for human rights.... full stop ✋. Plus he's gorgeous. Stay safe stay well everyone x
One of my parents (married in 1940) bridge partner friends spent part of WW2 in a German POW camp. He told us all the guys knew how to knit. He laughed that that was part of camp life never shown in the great war movies. But everyone in those camps was making or mending warm socks. Glad tom Daley is honoring that venerable and productive pasttime
Tom is from the second you look into his eyes so expressive and he always seems to carry a smile with him. I discovered him in the series he posted with his other half. They are hilarious together!!! He clearly defined the prejudices & possible harm the LGBTQ community could & has encountered. I also admire how he corrected the interviewer on his husband's occupation. Not a script writer !!!! He is much more and Dustin is much more.
Just absolutely brilliant and gorgeous Tom. Once again memorable, encouraging inspirational words. Empowering people 🤗💕 xx that’s you and hubby Lance too of course. You both have wonderful words that empower enabling people to believe in themselves. Thank you 😊
I love Tom Daley, you're one of the brightest person and he's so wise for a young man. It's as if we was 12 yr old yesterday he's grown and matured up so well. :D
Oh My God! What a wonderful and charming , handsome , sweet and open athlete, Olympian Champion! First time I have really paid attention. The Holiday Season is here, I want to wish you, Lance and your son all the very best life, God can give. You are a giant of a human being, being gay ( I am too) is a fraction of who we are. Truth is we are for one reason or another more in tune with our surroundings and we appreciate what we have as what we are missing. All the best, you make people gay or straight bigger, you are tearing down barriers with your candor and demeanor!
Tom Daley is an "excellent" human being! And I agree with Tom, if you're a country that discriminates and incriminates people just because YOU don't like who they are, you should not be privileged enough to hold the Olympics!
This is for the lovely Lance. That you for. making Tom the happiest he’s ever been, for making him feel safe, and most of all making each other so so wonderful with your beautiful little boy marriage is everything I believe.🌹🇬🇧🙋♀️
Tom's the one who proves to you as a young queer adult that you can be gay and strive for what you want. Thanks for being an extraordinary person and a role model.
Tom's many accomplishments and beloved status have made him an inspirational individual who many people aspire to around the world. I have often wondered if his choice to come out was his or if it was influenced. I have always believed it was influenced, though I have never doubted his reasoning and courage for doing so. It was clearly the right decision for him and both an example of how being your own person can help you be your own person despite the adversity you some times face. He give hope to many people around the world who's human rights abuses they might also overcome with his support by his example and their own courage.
"Not mixing sport and politics" is a disingenuous lie. As a Brit watching this I was impressed by the interviewer's straightforward and direct approach and his eschewing cheap jokes.
@@lillywho i mean yeah you're partially right/ bigots will be shitty but him and his husband got death threats when they announced they were gonna be parents/ that wouldn't have happened if he wasn't famous/ russian state tv was really vile too this summer cause of him being so visable at the olympics/
He has a valid point, some competitions In other countries should be put to a stop as it is barely safe for people who are different and Women which makes no sense.
His personal life is nobody's business that doesn't totally define who he is . He's a wonderfull Olympic performer . Deserving every award he has earned.
Why did a country like China, with its total disrespect and disregard of human rights and freedoms, be even considered for staging the Olympic Games? The idea of the Games is to bring everyone together in the harmony of sport, a concept which the Chinese government has no understanding of or desire to uphold. Good on an athlete like Tom for saying it as it is. Athletes could fear for their freedoms or even their lives, including those of fellow athletes, in particular the Chinese participants, if a perceived wrong word or action offends the Communist Party. Who gains from this decision?
