My thoughts exactly! This song almost sounds like Tom going into sarcastic autopilot. I could imagine Mark texting him one day after the tour ended and they hadn't seen each other in months and saying "IDEA FOR NEW BLINK ALBUM. BACK TO OUR ROOTS SOUND. 'CALIFORNIA'." Then Tom, sitting there, not knowing how to say 'no' or leave the band writes the most over-the-top thing to show himself how ridiculous it would be to go that far backwards.

As much as people here are saying that if Tom was with them now, California would sound like this, we all know that it would just sound more like U2 meets Coldplay (so basically AVA). Even Travis admitted that's what Tom wanted to do when they were originally planning to record for it.

You hit the nail right hard with this statement, it makes me feel upset that a lot of people here are hating on the new album because it was too poppy but I'm satisfied with it because it's the closest thing that sounds like classic Blink in more than a decade.

So I don't think mark and travis changed the album name and that this song was ment to be on that album.
