I read that Tom DeLonge had a unique customization. If I read correctly he had a capacitor between the coils of the pickup that altered the tone pretty significantly
The problem is that the neck Invader sounds EXACTLY like his tone while the bridge invader DOES NOT! I solve this riddle by presuming that since we know Tom only used Jerry Finn's guitars to record the songs during the Enema/TOYPAJ era, it's more than probable that there was a neck invader in the Strat that was used in the studio while all his own personal guitars that he used everywhere else had the bridge invader.
It's so annoying that Tom used Jerry's guitars in recording the albums, it just makes it that much harder to find the right tones 😂🙃 What's more is he probably used a number of different guitars for each song. For example: after listening closely, I'm convinced that the clean intros to both What's My Age Again and Stay Together For The Kids were recorded on a single coil Telecaster.
According to many reviewers, the neck pickup is made VASTLY different from the bridge version, sounding more like a vintage output bridge pickup. This is likely why it sounds like the recorded Blink tone, because Jerry Finn had Tom using everything BUT his signature guitars in the studio.
So, at 1:17 in on this video, you can see Tom using his Teal Green Metallic strat with the black hardware. I wonder if he had just gotten it because it has a smooth white pickguard instead of the perloid pickguard it would later have. It has the black invader in it at this point. I've never seen it pictured with a smooth white pickguard before, had you guys? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-exQ7FluT6Ko.html
Hey. It’s a Pearl pickguard. It’s just the lighting. According to Alex it’s always been that way. Only thing changed on this guitar was going from a black invader to a white
I love that this video comes out the day I just built my td style strat ! I kinda always saw people say it was the bridge or the neck in redit posts but I saw a video by little red guitars go check him out !! Anyone who’s interested in building one and I thought the neck sounded better because it sounds more clear to me but I’m surprised it’s the bridge
Great informations! So, in the end, we can say that Tom only used the Invader Bridge not the Neck, and that the PDF document contains a mistake on the part list about the pickup.
do you know where delonge strat was used in the actual recordings? i know he used jerry Finn's guitars a lot for the enema.. which songs feature his signature strat?
@@DetroitLionsDynasty so I took a picture of it once because I was planning to replace the pickup with the new all black invader. I don’t have the picture. I was searching it when the video was posted. Now I thought it had a treble bleed, all I remember was a resistor and a capacitor running from the 1st to 3rd lug. I could be wrong but I remember being confused when I saw this setup.
idk the invader was used on master of puppets with james hetfield and ride the lighting its a killer pickup with duncan pickups if its a jb or a nazgul invader they r all very mid heavy pickups i can see why he would use it for pop punk
Fender does what they have to to push out the guitars if they are selling like hot cakes like the Tom Delonge strat did. There could have been a issue with them getting the bridge version for a period of time and rather then stop making them they started throwing in neck pickups in the production models without telling anyone. Just like they started painting guitars back in the day solid colors to be able to make and sell guitars with less then desirable wood grain.
Tom's Invaders are listed as Bridge only from Seymour Duncan catalogue fitted by Fender...it was their hottest humbucker at the time..13K i beleive, or that's what a vid on YT say's...i can't think of a 2 pickup guitar Tom used but may be wrong ,bridge only...it's alright sounding, plenty distortion, but the big black screws look a mid ad-hoc imo but heard worse humbuckers....
Well, since you’re adding the Epiphone and Squire, I assume you’re talking about the build quality of the guitar as you could purchase from a store. So 100% Gibson is the highest quality as the Gibson you buy in the store, is the same one that Tom used on stage With little to no modifications. But your order is pretty accurate
The neck invader in the bridge position sounds better than the bridge pu. You can make up the gain with amp/pedals but the neck gives you a less muddy tone.
