a little comparison of Tom Delonges live vocals and Matt Skibas live vocals. enjoy! :) #blink182 #tomdelonge #mattskiba #markhoppus #blink #live #tour #reunion
I loved Blink with Matt. I think California and NINE are excellent albums. I honestly wish they would have given him an offer to stay with the band when Tom rejoined.
I feel like Matt is one of the best punk vocalists when he’s singing Alkaline Trio songs, but trying to emulate Tom’s vocals is hard for just about anyone.
The reason why i like this band is because of Tom's voice and style when he sing a song. Matt is very consistent. It's good. But Tom's voice is Punk voices. Tom create a color in Punk scene with his style. That's an art!
I see a ton of support for Tom and I "get it" Brian did hella wonders for a long stretch of AC/DC but they will always be Bon Scott and the younger Young bros to me, well younger than George, haha .With Blink I just wasn't that into them However, a friend from Wisconsin I lived with at the time they got Skiba and put out California, she had on in her van exclusively all the time wherever we, that album was playing and she was so excited because she was a HUGE fan of Alkaline Trio even more than Blink which she was also a big fan of Point is, by the constant subjection to that album, I actually grew to like Blink, I must admit, Cynical is one of my all-time favorite songs, she's out her mind as well, especially the video, omg that shit is hotter than porn, with 3 smokin babes that all played their parts perfectly, hell yeah. So I have to say Matt, but the real anchor here, who should get the foo fighter award for being the absolute fashizzle I'd Barker, maybe one of the top ten rock drummers of all time, dudes a savage beast on dem beats and bro goes hard af, right off the rip and barely ever slow for us to catch our breath, much less for himself. And now he producing rap artists? Dude....
I think Matt got waaaay to much hate when he was in Blink. He kept the band together and filled in for Tom just really good! Of course Tom sounds "better" when singing Blink songs, because he is the one we listened to for years. Would be awesome if blink includes one Alkaline Trio Song in Future setlists sung by Mark and maybe Tom to thank Matt and respect him. :)
Tom sings Blinks song as they were intended to be sung; Tom has a unique voice, in a realm of its own. His voice is not everyone yet I love it and hearing Matt with Mark and Travis is like hearing a different band. This is coming from someone who has listened to Blink since Cheshire Cat; I also have a Blink 182 tattoo; I am a hardcore Blink fan
Agreed. I can’t believe some people are saying blink is Matt, mark and Travis like? Matt is okay and it’s great what he did to help but it’s not blink without Tom. I’m also a hardcore fan and been listening my whole life basically. I’m so excited I get ti see them in concert this year with Tom again!
Agreed, Tom’s voice has always been super unique, and the combination with Mark was just magic. Matt is fantastic in his own right but his like, “normal” voice doesn’t work as well in those specific songs as Tom’s unique voice.
I absolutely love Tom’s mature voice (like Neighborhoods). It’s still got that distinct nasal twang but somehow deeper and smoother. And when he left, I was prepared to dislike Matt. I have to say though, while the music had a different feel, some of the Matt songs are my favorite blink songs! I love Nine! Honestly, what’s important is that both of their vocals complement Mark’s perfectly in different ways. So many people talk about how you can’t have blink-182 without Tom, but really, Mark’s the key piece. His voice has aged so well too.
The dichotomy of mark's steady normal singing voice and Tom's all over the place (even more so as his career has progressed) unique voice (which i've always said sounds like he managed to sing in a british accent) really are what brought the magic sound to Blink. Matt has a great voice and to me he would be a great replacement for Mark's vocals but Tom is frankly irreplaceable to keep the Blink sound. That said I haven't hated the albums with Matt I just didn't think they were really Blink. Also blink live performances never sounded anything like their studio albums because Tom's all over the place is controlled to be all over the place in a specific way for each song in those environments. For some that obviously matters.
Matt skiba worked a incredibly difficult job and held it down and did fantastic, Tom is a complete legend happy he’s back playing music even if it’s not 2004 anymore
Matt Skiba is a rock solid singer and can still nail it in the studio and on some of the blink songs you can tell he was into he did pretty well too. I really like Matt's take on Down. That being said. He was basically a hired gun in blink. Look up some slightly older Alkaline Trio shows to see him in his prime.
@@gizmo359c do what every band does when "replacing" a singer - pick someone who sounds exactly like the original singer. Matt is honestly a worse vocalist too, which is hard to believe following Tom.
Old Tom sounds like young Nick Jonas live just trying his hardest to hit notes he really was lucky to hit in studio, personally I think Skiba did mostly fine since his voice isnt really near as thin as Toms and is a completely different timbre.
How is Matt supposed to sound correct/like Tom, Tom basically talks with a funny accent in his songs, so that can’t really be duplicated, or compared to singing lol a fill in can never replace an og once a song is familiar.
Listen to any Alkaline Trio album Matt's voice is stellar. The problem is Alkaline Trio and Blink are completely different bands aestheticly. Putting a horror punk singer in a band such as Blink wasn't a good fit. Matt in Alkaline is where he was meant to be.
@sweetnorsour5080 he sounds like an english guy, the whole attitude is english british.. nothing for blink..thats his vampire bite stuff and his other bullshit is so unfamiliar
Let’s see Tom sing a tours worth of Alkaline Trio songs, and then compare. At least the two guys seem to respect each other. I personally would not be in a band where the guy flakes out and goes to chase aliens
👍🏼😎 loved all versions of the songs they are both really amazing singers. Will miss Matt 😕 not in blink-182 anymore but I’m happy Tom’s back it’s kinda not been the same without him in the band.🫠
It’s pretty clear that Matt’s voice is a great fit AK3. Obviously toms fits blink but it’s annoying that everyone gives Tom a pass for sounding like literally ass. I’m a diehard blink fan but I’d pissed if I payed to see blink live from 2011-2014 with toms voice.
Blink 182 wasn't about the skill Of how the songs are played ,but about their unique vocals and songs in general. It's what keeps the nostalgia alive .they should of of just gave the skiba times a different band name just like they did with +44. Tom and mark Melodies equate to the blink sound.
When Tom’s at his best then it’s the ultimate version of blink. Sadly, post-2009 comeback he was hardly ever at his best and some performances are semi painful to watch. Hopefully this time around he’s actually motivated and puts in the effort because when that happens it’s magic.
Blink songs don't include enough references to demons and murder for Matt's style 😂🖤 Matt and Alk3 are legendary and I'm glad they're both back in their respective bands. Matt's old voice pre-surgery would have prob fit Blink a bit more.
I gotta be honest, I think Matt's voice was at its peak slightly before he joined blink, but ever since he joined blink his voice severely went down hill (but not the worst of his career, that would actually go to Alkaline Trio's early days when his voice was practically gone at one point). Also, like Tom, Matt sings some songs better or worse than others.
I think when he joined up with blink-182 was when he started to cut back on smoking and go clean. That’s probably why we saw a bit of a drop in his vocal quality.
I loved Matt's voice when it was fucked back in the "Good Mourning" days. Their early albums are still (and always will be) in regular rotation for me.
@@dginski7 I did too, but that was because he was able to make the most of it in the studio and do as many takes as he needed. There were times around that era live where his voice was practically gone and would break a lot.
Respect for Matt, but I believe that Brian Sella from The Front Bottoms would have been a more suitable replacement for Tom. I still can’t believe I’m the only person (that I know of) who has had that independent thought. A few people have agreed with me though.
Personally toms voice is dynamic and goes up down and out he uses his whole mouth and throat for his vocals where as Matt’s voice is very flat and dry but that’s what happens when you try to fill the gap of someone with a much different and unique vocal structure but at the end of the day the tom the GOAT is back
I love how you’ve done a comparison of Tom’s old and new voices compared with Matt that proves to me how much better I think Tom’s voice than Matt’s he lost his voice about a decade ago or more
Matt Skiba so sorry to say was awful on most of these songs….I mean, I get it, he kept the band together but Tom’s voice is so unique and perfect for this sound…it fits like a glove….Matt’s was so monotone and flat whereas Tom’s is explosive, dynamic, higher pitched….much better vocally with Tom…however, even Tom’s voice, especially today, has lost some of his flair and sometimes sounds flat as well, almost lazy in his singing now
I‘m not a Blink Fan but I like some of Blinks Song pretty much. Matt is really flat / out of tune and his voice isn‘t sounding good. Tom ist sometimes out of tune too but his voice sounds wayyyyy better… there is so much more feeling…
It makes sense that they perform better on the ones they wrote (not the other''s) but I think Matt did an incredible job and his era is my favourite for Blink
I think you've just described why I haven't really been a fan of Alkaline Trio apart from like one or two of their songs. Just sounds a bit too emotionlessly whiny to me. At least Tom's whining had that spit & bark energy that the producer Tom Lord-Alge described DeLonge having in his voice.
Tom nasceu para o Blink e tem anos de experiência, Matt teve que se adaptar ao Blink, infelizmente não se pode comparar. O tom está anos luz na frente.
I you Matt, bit Tom is the leeding voice of Blink 182 (old songs) and you will be The leading voice of the new eara, get weel Mark and keep smaching Barker!
Matt is a much more talented and consistent singer in general. Tom’s voice is just so unique and recognizable that after having it for all those years, it’s hard to have such a drastic tonal change like there was with matt skiba. Still loved the songs they did with him. They’re both great
Matt is better than Tom in lives, I'm talking about technique and voice healthy, even signing so bad at some performances, I love Tom's nowdays vocals. Ps: all respect for Matt, I'll be always thankfully for what this guy made for keep blink alive, giving his energy in two (or three) great projects and making Mark & Travis into blink full time again, wish better for him and the return of Alkaline Trio.
I cant help but keep thinking of hearing Matt in especially poor quality live shows how much Danzig he sounds. (Also lol to old voice vs new voice, such distinct diction in my yed.)
I noticed Tom's voice is different. Did something happen? It says Tom and Tom (old voice) lol. Respect to Matt for keeping the band going! Tom should sing songs Matt wrote. They are all Blink songs right?
Both Matt and Tom could benefit from Autotune🫢 But Matt deserves credit. Anyone who fill in for an original has to be brave. Bringing their own style without copying the other singer. Not easy. Thanks to Matt. Welcome back Tom.
We can all agree Tom and mark were never "good" singers? I can't speak for early Matt, but I think he hits the notes a tiny bit better than Tom and mark. Some people just hate Matt because he's not Tom and don't actually give him a real chance.
None of them are good, with Matt being the worst, but Tom is inarguably the most iconic voice - the whole reason blink became famous, when tons of similar bands failed.
I am a big fan of Matt and love(d) alkaline trio. Technically, yes he is a better singer than Tom or even mark, but in terms of his singing for Blink 182? He sounds stiff and bored and this isn't just on blinks olds songs.. I always felt that Matt wasn't a good fit for blink and it has nothing to do with Matt and his abilities. His style of singing is not meant for Blink. And no shame in that.
Violence - 0:06 Matt 0:27 Tom Dammit - 1:06 Matt 1:24 Tom Up all night - 1:59 Matt 2:31 Tom I miss you - 2:58 Matt 3:40 Tom All the small things - 5:03 Matt 5:36 Tom
I like Matt doing Matt songs. He is shit at doing Tom songs. I liked California, Matt's voice is too much in the same register as Mark, but it worked. Not as well as with Tom, but it worked. Let's not pretend either Matt or Tom can sing live, they both clearly cant. Mark does just "ok" live and sometimes is also way off. Knowing Mark (Ive been a fan since before Travis) - having Matt sing Tom songs is a funny middle finger to Tom. Because Tom COULD have been singing those songs....
