This performance really gives the material a whole added layer of depth. To sing “Everyone’s forgotten when they started” in a massive auditorium filled with people who have fought like hell to get to the biggest night in UK Theatre really is quite something! All at once, there’s something rather glorious about that feeling of ‘making it’ but at the same time there’s a rather haunting reminder of the sacrifices it takes to survive in this industry. No wonder Jamie Lloyd won Best Director (at last!)!

I thought this performance was incredible enough already, and then I learned that this is a variation of the way this production staged this song and did it every night?? Never getting over this, and I can't believe I haven't heard of Tom Francis before!

Yes, he started off in the changing rooms, then outside on the street, through the theatre foyer and then onto the stage. There were a LOT of stairs to contend with along with changes in weather, random bystanders etc.

The Andrew Lloyd Webber standee was also in the west end version, I presume that and saying hi to Nicole were both at the exact moments they happened in the show!

⁠@@alicew349 Well, I remember the Lloyd Webber standee, but when I saw it, the alternate playing Norma was sitting in front of the screen showing the outside camera feed. As for him saying hi to Nicole, in the West End production he does this with one of the outside posters.

Saw this 4 times in the west end including closing night. Really is the best thing I've ever seen. Still blows my mind how modern and relevant they made this musical. It was heartbreakingly wonderful.

traveled from the Netherlands three times , to see Sunset Boulevard , it was a work of art that you had to keep looking at and could not say goodbye to. This performance is once again breathtaking to see! Tom Francis after Broadway, Holywood awaits you!

I flew from Australia to see this show in November. Absolutely mind blowing. I agree Tom is a star but the entire cast was magnificent. I loved the whole experience.

Ok that gave e goosebumps. In something that could have just been a gimmick this was just simply breathtaking and we learnt so much about Joe in 3 minutes. There is no denying why this show stacked the awards last night. Truly deserved.

Love this outside video. There are no clips of this show on RU-vid. That scares me. Kinda reminds me of when Beanie was in Funny Girl and they removed all videos of her because of the audience dissatisfaction. I'll hold off on tickets until it's reviewed in NYC!! If comments are to be believed it should be good but since all seats should be good as long as you can see the screen I can wait to buy.

This is really quite impressive. He pulls this off really, really well. I was horrified that we'd walked in late from intermission while seeing this in Tampa. Apologies. But bravo to the tech that did this Live broadcast. Deft performance. I imagine the paired down staging really puts a focus on the performances. Though fond of an original that had hefty staging. The mansion elevated over the dance floor was stunning to see and doesn't translate in recordings. It was so heavy that the stage had been reinforced at expense to the venue. I'm excited that Sarah Brightman is doing it in Australia. ❤

It makes more thematic sense at the savoy but its doubling the strand as a substitute for "sunset boulevard" and also plays into the filmic and cinematic nature of the plot

What’s the deal with the sound? It’s a show celebrating live theatre, but he sounds like he’s performing on a reality show, with the bad auto tune.

i don't think he's autotuned, but the bad sound quality is probably due to the audio being mixed for the room and not submixed for the live/recorded viewers. so you're hearing the output that sounded good in the room, but the raw feed may seem a bit fucked up.
