people who can make laugher during funerals have a gift ; it helps ease their pain and allows them to take a deep breath. Thanks for helping them Mr. Hanks
Grieving is a normal natural human process. It is possible to grieve and celebrate. People grieve in different ways. Always nice to celebrate their lives too and remember fondly the good times.
no we dont. Hitting your son with a pan in the head doesnt convey the message that violence is not the answer. Besides i have heard stories of gang members who were physically abused by their parents in similar ways, like getting stripped naked and getting hit with metal cords.
A significant number of incarcerated violent offenders have been found to have brain damage for excessive corporal punishment as children. 99.99% of those who are imprisoned were corporally punished as children. 80% of parents believe in corporal punishment.
+Lady BlackstarDust So true. I got my butt swatted a few times and my dad's hand definitely stung. I used my husband's fraternity paddle on our boys when they had really messed up, but looking back at that, I wish I wouldn't have. I've witnessed one of my sons beating his dog. I broke down in tears when we sat down and I talked about it with he and our daughter-in-law. Our granddaughter witnessed it, and while the dog is a big German Shepard, he cried out once. That just tore me to pieces. My son tried to defend his actions but I told him that if he made the dog cry, he went too far. My husband and daughter-in-law were crying with me before I was done. I do think he's gotten better about it, but I blame myself for how I punished he and his brother when they were boys. I truly regret it.
Tom Hanks is a genuinely nice man. I was driving around, trying to find a particular building in LA, and I happened to park next to him on a Saturday morning. He was taking his family to play ball in a baseball field. They were ahead of him, and he was locking the car. I asked him for directions and he helped me out, and then I told him he had a little blood on his face from shaving too quickly and running out the door, LOL. Then I noticed I was talking to TOM HANKS! LOL! Super sweet man, and genuine, as you can see in this video.
+MiaSqueaky He used to come into a restaurant I worked at a few years ago. He really is the nicest guy...always remembered your name, looked you in the eye. Would go out of his way to bring you into the conversation his table was having. I remember one night in particular when I was going through a rough time. He noticed that I looked down, and so he pulled me aside and gave me a pep talk. Turned my night right around. Amazing human being.
Wow, that is a great story. Really nice of him. I worked at a restaurant when Ashton Kutcher and Kevin Costner were getting ready to film the guardian, Kutcher was a pos to literally everybody, hat over his face, looked bored and like he wanted to be elsewhere. Kevin signed one of our menus and took some photos with people and was really nice to everyone.
This man is one of the few still living geniouses of laughter in the world, all of them like Robin Williams have passed except him, god gaurd this man fro enemies if he even has any.
My family treats funerals as a roast. You'll hear so many embarrassing stories of the deceased that make your eyes water from laughter instead of sadness. It makes funerals easier and allows us to accept the death of our family member. After all, funerals aren't for the dead. They're for the living to help find a way to cope with loss. If it meant helping my family along, I'd be happy with someone cracking jokes about me during my own funeral.
I wish my family did that. It would be nice to look down at my funeral from Heaven and see everyone laughing and sharing memories, even if it was me they were laughing at.
I like that. I feel like too often we treat people who pass away as “perfect angels” when none of us are that at all! We are all flawed beautiful unique humans.
Same with my family but not the funeral itself. That's time to cry it out. We get together after for a dinner or such and then the stories start flying, memories and sharing keep them with us even though physically they are not.
When my son died at age 35 one of his closest friends wrote a eulogy that was a funny and beautiful tribute to him. I still read it once in a while and I cant help but smile past the tears. My son had been shot and killed, a homicide brought about by a woman's uncaring attitude and her need for drama. It was devastating.
I remember DENZIL WASHINTON being interviews once and he talked about being in a gang but he changed direction because of gang members getting killed or ending up in a concrete coffin behind bars. So gang members can change and be better people. I have seen it personally.
@Ivan Gromov Apology accepted; Pedophilia is indeed sickening. I only wished to understand your point better. Keep in mind, not everyone is only curious to mock or disagree.
@Ivan Gromov being accused with zero evidence does not make someone guilty... If I accuse you of being a paedophile right now with no evidence does that automatically make you guilty?
First...learn the difference between “then” and “than”. Second...it was a really good movie. Third...read the book. You’ll see they could have made the movie much better.
***** aaawww....so sorry ♡ I like the story about his personal relationship with a fellow actor he was asked to eulogize. You realize that right? It's the man's eulogy? Not a Tom Hanks stand up performance? ??
Honestly couldn't help but kinda tear up at the end, it was obvious he was sad about his friend's death but he still managed to lighten everyone's spirits, his included!
I could feel the love that Tom has for Michael. True friendship, love and respect. When he was laugh/crying, I know that he was already missing his dear friend.
What a lovely story...I just love Tom Hanks....a really good man. Why cant he be running for President....? Why? Well I guess because he's a real good man...that's why. God bless you sir.
How very, very true. No one could have delivered a remembrance speech such as as Tom. Tom not only a wonderful actor as was Michael but a wonderful human being. From Chris in the u. K.
Tom Hanks is great and I would not wish the Presidency of the United States on my worst enemy. No matter how good a person you are they will make up horrible lies about you and your family and every kitties thing you have done in your life & the lives of your family members will be scrutinized.
Lovely and touching speech by Tom Hanks, talking about his friend, Michael, in a funny way, instead of grieving, although he was moved at the end of the story...laughing and crying at the same time... Farewell, Michael...big guy! (I remember their great performance together in the Green Mile) Melody Fox (aka the Princess of Rock) Love Peace Music
People get things wrong like this all the time! A memorial like this isn't about death. it's a celebration of LIFE! This was beautiful! He truly made this a beautiful moment for him to be remembered. For him to stand up there and cry like that and laugh is what a Memorial is about. They are celebrating his life. Tom Hanks seems like an amazing man!
I'm glad Tom was there to share this moment of levity. I can count on one hand without even using my thumb how many people in the world I have never met that I cried over when I learned of their passing. Michael is one of them.
Because you hear about Tom Hanks so you search Tom Hanks and boom Tom Hanks is suddenly popular so RU-vid shows it to everyone else because people like popular things. Is it that hard to comprehend?
My grandmother's funeral was wonderful because people told great and funny stories about her. Even the preacher had taken the time to visit her and had some funny stories as well. Nothing helps grief better than laughter, IMO.
Tom Hanks is the kind of guy that could randomly show up at a church sermon or baby shower anywhere from Los Angeles to Omaha or Indianapolis and everyone would just be like, “Oh hey Tom”.
Tom Hank's story just brought a smile to my face and made me laugh as well. R.I.P. "Big Mike." You were always and will continue being an inspiration : )
Tom you are the greatest ....anyone who can make someone laugh at a memorial service is a great person in my book. Remember them as they were. You're a good and loyal friend. No wonder the world loves you man.
my best friend was diagnosed with colon cancer a few years back, he had a heart of gold, we were so alike in the fact we have a dark sense of humour, when he told me i was heartbroken and he could see i was in tears even though i turn my back towards him, as i was facing away from him i said "the good always die young" my best mate said "And thats why you will live to 110" Made me laugh, I still miss him even though he's been gone for over 2 years now...
Love this story. My was the same. Short 4'9 but a powerhouse. Thank you Tom for your remembrance of Michael. I loved Michael in the Green Mile & Run Spot Run.
What a great loss I would loved to have met him and just been in his company to actually look into this kind and gentle face and share some of lives paths and hopes and heartaches , I'm sure if anyone could lift your spirits it would be him !!!! Thank you so much for gifting us this memory of him. And may his loved ones get comfort from the Written Word as I'm sure they do , I'm sure it's a big part of their comfort .All the best 😣😑😐🤔🙂☺😊
I was just watching the video about the mother in Baltimore that was rousting her son away from the riots. It reminded me of this story. It just goes to show that it doesn't matter how big you are your Mom is still and always will be "MOM". There's a reason that when the camera is on even the biggest meanest looking athlete will smile, wave and say "Hi Mom!".
R. I. P. Michael. You will be missed. Thank you, Mr. Tom Hanks for sharing such a sweet and funny story with Michael’s family, friends ,and the world. God bless you, and Michael.✌️
Omg I can imagine the whole thing in my head XD especially when mike was crying while cutting his hair omg I laughed so hard. Thank you for that laugh everyone needed in that hard time Tom(:
aww id definitely want my friends to talk about me like this at my funeral. i mean i don't want to be remembered just in my final moments and just talk of bitterness. remember me in our crazy/fun/stupid times together too.
Wonderful tribute to a great man.. I’m sure he would have loved to see his family remembering him with a smile on there faces 😊this is how I hope my family send me off, remembering the good and funny times .. life’s to short to wallow in sadness, and I certainly do not want mine to do so after I’m gone .. 😊
