I must've watched all of his movies. I can't say that about every actor out there. You just know if Tom Hanks is in it..it must be good. He deserves every accolade and appreciation for his craft. And now he is in Elvis. looking forward to seeing that soon.
I remember when Philadelphia came out in the theatres. Tom took a hit from a lot of people, for playing that part. But he was the only one who could have played it.
I met Tom Hanks at a recording of Facts of Life, tv show. He was so Awesome! Gave me and my friend an autograph and came on our school bus with us and we had so much fun with him for a while.
I am so GLAD ..... that I live at a time when I can enjoy EVERYTHING this man does. I wanted my mom to see his new movie "Forrest Gump"... but as she was coming to the end of her life, she said she just didn't have the strength. "Tell me the story." So I did. And she wept and laughed along. It was the last story she heard....and she LOVED it. Thank you for that wonderful memory, Mr. Hanks.
Mc Kenna oh so sweet. My condolences to you on the loss of your mom. I lost my mom 2 years ago. I was with her when she died and I too told her a story too but it was about her. In later years of her life she wanted me to tell her a story but I did not know any and could not create one. Not until the day she died. Thank you for sharing this because it makes me glad to know that I am not odd for what I did.
Thank you so much for sharing your story💕 My mom is from a generation in my country that never really had a chance to go to the cinema all that much... As an elder she got to see Forrest Gump though and rarely have I seen her as happy as she did viewing that magical movie❤️ Now she's fully institutionalized due to dementia and I'm so glad we had that night of movie magic😍.
This admittedly isn't directly related, but I still think speaks very well of Tom Hanks, and your comment reminded me of it... as much as I enjoyed Robert Zemeckis' film "Flight", it came out I believe Christmas of 2015, starring Denzel Washington as a commercial airline pilot who pulls off an unprecedented emergency landing with a faulty plane saving the lives of most of the passengers and crew, but the subsequent attention quickly shows he's got some major skeletons in his closet, and was high and drunk while working, meaning he can go to jail for manslaughter for the handful of casualties. Denzel did a very fine job in the role, just as I'd expect him to. But especially considering it was Zemeckis who directed it, who's already worked with Hanks a number of times, I couldn't help but wonder if he was cast, it could've been a truly legendary performance. He finally played a sort of 'bad guy' character in "Road To Perdition" in that he was a mob hit man, but he was still basically the protagonist of the story. I'd really love to see him go to even a more extreme of a gray area place in a role, and it seemed like "Flight" could've been perfect for that.
Tom is one of the ONLY actors out there that can really make you feel what each character is going through. He plays the dramatic actors so well, its amazing!
Lauren Poland From what everyone who has met Tom Hanks or is a personal friend of his say that the best attribute which defines Tom is his big heart, empathy for his fellow man, and his true morality.
absolutely. the roles he takes on are so diverse but he just has a way to make you relate to every character he has ever played. I will forever be a fan.🌹
From comedy to drama, Tom Hanks is everything an actor is supposed to be.. I've always said that great acting is when the actor takes a scene and makes the audience feel like it's really happening and not just reading from a script. Tom had the ability to do that. A well deserved honor.
Well said. I was raised on the greats from my dad Grant,Flynn,Tracy,Fonda, Stewart,Peck, and then when I was a teenager in the 70's with George C.Scott, Newman,Redford,Eastwood,Wayne, Connery,Nicholson,Brando...you aren't gonna top those guys, but yeah he has an excellent body of work. When I first saw him I wasn't impressed,. I was dead wrong. His face and eyes are so expressive in a moving scene...doesn't have to say a thing. That's when you have a Hell of an Actor.
Such a class act. He was genuinely in awe of all the performers. He was thankful, and he was the first to stand in applause! He was being celebrated on that occasion, but it felt like he was just a member of the audience, and in humility, gave a standing ovation for all the performances. Truly, not only talent, but also a good heart.
Have you been alive very long? The most beloved actor of all time is probably still James Stewart. (My question is genuinely curious as you said Tom Hanks is the most beloved actor in *your* lifetime.)
Wow, I didn't know where Martin was going with that last number, but what show stopper. Great and fitting tribute to one of the finest American artists of any generation.
My father´s favorite actor...who became my brother´s favorite actor...and later on...my own favorite....we tip our hats to you...the one and only...Tom Hanks
There is no more an actor so more deserving than him. Tom Hanks is the essence of acting. He is the best actor by far. The amazing characters he gets to play. The way he portrays them is amazing.
I love how in awe he is of the service members who performed on his behalf. he is a stand up guy. It would of been really cool to not only perform for him, but also the President.
I’ve seen Tom in the Toy Story series, Polar Express, the Terminal, Turner & Hooch, the new Pinocchio, Big, Forrest Gump, A League of their Own, Sleepless in Seattle, Splash, Saving Mr Banks and You Got Mail
I would say he's not the GREATEST actor, but has been in more movies that i've loved than any other actor. Anyway you put it though, he's a national treasure
Tom Hanks can never hurt a movie since he is "outstanding in all he does no matter what. That's why with his genuine humor and down to earth attitude, we can't help wanting to see more of him.
I was thinking the same thing. A once-in-a-lifetime event and she agrees to sit in back of him. Extremely understanding of her. They couldn't move one of those other people out of the front row??? I'm surprised how few people have commented on that.
@@pdoylemi I want to add that Jimmy Stewart became the first major American movie star to enlist in the United States Army to fight in World War II. Stewart fought his celebrity status to avoid being relegated to duties beyond the lines. From 1943 to 1945, he flew 20 bombing missions as the lead pilot of a B-24 liberator. He didn't fly the milk runs, and his missions included bombing raids to Berlin, Brunswick, Bremen, Frankfurt, and Schweinfurt. His most memorable mission, Stewart served as the flight leader of a 1000 plane raid to Berlin. By the end of the war he had risen to the rank of Colonel. My comment is not about glorifying war, nor about diminishing Tom Hanks' achievements on and off the screen, many of which I am sure we are not aware off due to his modesty. Just like Stewart. I just thought it was worth mentioning.
It's not the SAME exact thing, but it's funny I see this comment because I came to this video as it was over in the 'related' section from the one I'd previously watched, Martin Short getting a Canadian lifetime achievement award, in fact I think that might been in 2014 as well.
I still remember Bosom buddies from my youth. (well I was in my twenties after the Army) and I could not believe how funny this man was. God Bless, Tom, Mr. Hanks, on being one of the most incredible men I've ever seen on the screen.
What amazes me about Mr Hanks is his humility in the light of being the epitome of iconic. America loves him for his talent and his charm. I am among his biggest fans. It’s just my opinion but I found the performances most fitting and so wholesome. Kudos to Martin Short as well. How special to mention Rita Wilson. Touching indeed. Thank you.
I thought that Peter Scolari was going to be the big star! That's the essence of Tom Hanks. He macks everyone around him better than they are! Thanks, Om.
Love this man! If I met this man, I would not need anything more in this world. His work is so good it affects us all. Does he know how much he affects others with his talent and awesomeness!!! Thanks so much for helping me go on!\
This is the best homage I had the privilege to watch, and the most deserving. I cried like The TOM Hanks was my significant-other. Maybe because I grew up watching all his movies which are amongst my favorites. I admire him as a good person and as an artist par excellence.
Is it possible to have a heart attack from sheer joy and embarrassment? I swear that was about what Tom was going to have. I had tears in my eyes... I can't even _imagine_ Tom's reaction!
@@johnsimon933 You couldn't even take care of two little thoughts in one comment. Why you felt the need to capitalize 'opinion' I don't know. Perhaps you're emulating a perverse idol?
He deserves that and more in the near and far future to come. Thanks Mr. Hanks for all the joy and happiness you have brought into millions of people lives.
I was in my very early teens when Bosom Buddies came out. I was a fan from the very first episode. What really made me sit up and take notice of him as an actor, though, was his role in Big. You could see the little boy looking out from the eyes of this grown up body and it was absolutely mesmerizing to watch. Such a funny and genuinely nice guy.
He is one of my short list of “anything by...” actors. (For those who don’t get it...Q “what movies do you like watching “? A “anything by Tom Hanks...”!
