There's nothing cinematographic about an inside view of a plane crash over the Pacific in the middle of the night, and that's exactly why it's so great: they had to rely on sounds, acting and the shots of Chuck all alone in the fury of the night storm to make it scary!
This scene is so realistically scary because it shows how powerless one would be in that situation. No heroic feat of survival, just being helplessly carried by the elements, and only surviving out of sheer luck.
But I always thought that Chuck was still unlucky because he arrived at an island without any civilization and nobody to help him. He spentv4 years in that island. And not once did music play, nor did it show a scene back at home with his girlfriend and other people looking for him. Truly a great movie.
The bit where they see the water approaching it in the dark at that speed. It would be absolutely terrifying it don’t matter how tough you think you are
I remembered watching this scene as a kid. I couldn't remember why it can happen but it felt so scary. Everything seems to be in chaos. Initially I thought it was some monsters that attack the plane and cause it to be like this. Now as I grew older , i understood how it happen. Still a great scene tho. Poor pilots trying to get things in control.
Why would some monsters attack the plane?? I thought it was caused because it got struck by lightning. Such a great movie.!Honestly if it released a year later it wouldn’t age well.
According to 74 Gear, they weren't trying too hard. Did they make any attempt to inhibit the descent, such as extending the speed brakes or reducing power to idle? No, they didn't. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tvUxv3ebeBI.htmlsi=S5GqMA9_kI5tcGqN
Narrator: It's just after 11:30pm as Fedex Express Flight 88 cruises 31,000ft above the South Pacific en route from Memphis in the United States to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As the Mcdonnell-Douglas MD-11 flies through gathering thunderstorms, the bad weather makes it difficult for the pilots to make contact with controllers in nearby Tahiti. 0:00 Without warning, the plane is rocked violently. An explosion in the cargo hold has ruptured the fuselage and damaged the flight controls. The pilots are unaware of how badly damaged the plane is. Flight 88 is too far over the ocean, the pilots need to land NOW. 1:02 Captain Miller takes control of the crippled aircraft and begins an emergency descent. 1:06 The plane is now at a safe altitude for pilots to breathe. In the cargo hold, off-duty employee, Chuck Nolan, struggles against the plane's rapid descent and the shrieking winds. 2:33 Flight 88 is now less than a thousand feet from the stormy Pacific. In the back, Nolan prepares for the inevitable. 2:39 Fedex Flight 88......hits the ocean surface at over 300mph. The aircraft is shattered on impact. In the sinking fuselage, 33 year old Nolan has survived the impact, but now must escape or he will drown....
I know this is a fake story but considering plane crashes in the ocean are 100% lethal with no chance of survival I'd say the pilots did a pretty good job.
Just to clarify, there's no way he would have survived that, the impact alone would have crushed the fuselage on impact, killing everyone inside instantly, the swells of the water inside the cabin would suck him down to his death, it's a good movie but just not believable!
It was probably a battery fire, that exploded something flammable. Or it was a battery that provided the power to receive the bombs detonation signal or it ran on a timer, that was battery powered.
El temor de todo ser humano....verse en una situación así. Y esas cosas han pasado. Yo cada vez que me monto a un avión digo, "bueno, que sea lo que Dios quiera"
@@mrpvz548 I mean his head was badly smashed up so he was injured and confused. Its a bit of a strange moment but I think the movie is making a point that the pilot has a torch as Hanks uses it later.
@@mrpvz548 I think so but its still a strange moment as you say. Hanks finds the torch in the pilots belt pouch when he goes through his body on the Island so I guess they are explaining why the pilot had on him in the first place as he was using it in the dark flight deck.
