I just turned 70. I didn't realize what that would be like. I've learned a lot in this life. Too much to share, but this one thing that is always 100% true - if you're alive to see the sun come up, you have another chance for your life to change. The tides and winds can give you a sail to a new place. You just have to be willing to experience something new.

Joe vs. The Volcano is definitely a weird one. Cloud Atlas is also a very strange film, but I give both of them props because they're not your normal, run-of-the-mill movies. With Ladykillers being a dark comedy it is *very* hit and miss for people. To me, Mazes and Monsters is just his absolute worst movie, at no fault of his own.

An interesting fact on this movie - When it was filmed, they had superimposed a voice for Wilson (that help Tom Hanks keep that conversation going. In the cutting room, they removed everything Wilson said to add depth to the movie.

@@betteryourlife865 I agree, but maybe they never intended to leave that in, just to give Tom Hanks a way to answer as if talking to a real person. Actually I'm sure it was a real person, but play on an audio track they could easily edit out of the film in post.

I fought in Iraq for 4 years and when I finally got out of the military and returned home, the old life that I thought was waiting for me wasn't there anymore. My friends had all started families and moved on. My ex-girlfriends were married. People had changed homes and started new jobs. I fully understand what he was feeling standing at the crossroads, having to start a new life and not really seeing a difference in either direction. As far as Kelly, I've put myself in his shoes and I think after she hugged me and I saw the map and saw how much cared, I would be okay. Even though it's all very confusing and unfair, just knowing that she cared that much would put me at ease. You just want to know that you didn't suffer alone, that you weren't forgotten.

Without looking it up and going off memory, Tom Hanks about died while filming this movie. He cut his knees up because he was on them so much and since he was refusing to bathe for the movie, he caught a staph infection that was eating away at his leg. They caught it in time and I think it took him a few weeks to recover from it. I love how the music completely cuts out from the time he is on the island until he gets off.

Fun fact about this movie: FedEx did not officially sponsor it or pay to have their brand in the movie. The idea of the movie came from Tom Hanks himself when he was reading an article in a magazine about FedEx planes that take off twice a day from LAX To fly around the world. He said he wondered what would happen if one of the planes ever went down and the movie was born. This interview is on RU-vid. It's short, but also a very good watch.

My thoughts on not opening the packages at first is that the moment you open a package, you are admitting to yourself that you don't expect to be rescued for a long, long time, maybe never. If you keep the packages in as good a condition as possible, you are showing faith in the idea that you think you might be rescued any day now. A guy like him is not going to face the possibility of being stuck there until he has no choice.

This movie tears me apart a little inside when I watch it... my first gf and I were very much in love, but she was always struggling from 5exual abuse as a child, I spent years patiently waiting for her to trust again and although she loved me she was too scared to commit. After 10 years we decided to separate as I wanted family and she never knew if she was going to get over the trauma. I am happily married with kids and so is she now (20 years later) but I still have that hole in my heart when we parted ways I can't help it. She said she would always love me as I had helped her get over her abuse a lot and rebuild trust. It's really hard to explain. I wouldn't give up what I have now, my current wife and kids, I'd die for them but even now it still upsets me thinking about her. Life is complicated.

1. It's a good thing he wasn't strapped in that plane. He would have died. 2. Can you imagine how much back pay this guy is going to get? He's not a rank and file worker either. He's much higher up the food chain. 3. To make himself look like an average out of shape middle aged man Tom Hanks didn't exercise and allowed himself to grow pudgy. Production was then halted for a year so he could lose fifty pounds, work out and grow out his beard for his time spent on the deserted island. 4. Talk about using realistic tactics to survive. 5. Wilson is exactly what he needed to maintain sanity. 6. In a recent interview Hanks says that Chuck went back to Bettina Wings. Inside the opening scene package, among other things, were her divorce papers. 7. When he's talking to his friend and says, "I had power over nothing...." is what gets to me. 8.Tom Hanks is the GOAT of my lifetime. I'm 63 years old. 9. If you haven't already, you need to do the GOAT in the GOAT, "The Green Mile". FWIW Morse Code SOS= Dit dit dit, Dah dah dah, Dit dit dit

Helen Hunt is great in "As Good as it Gets," with Jack Nicholson. Winners of Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Picture back in the day. Great flick.

You don't actually think Kelly is bad because she got remarried right? I don't think she is. If she fell in love again then good for her

Exactly. It was 4 _years_ and she had people telling her to "let him go." It's not at all unusual she would spend a year mourning and then move on. The fact people use that as an "example" she's cheating is utterly ridiculous.

My favorite Tom Hanks movie has always been THIS - Cast Away. It left such a strong impression on me as a kid! But there really are no bad Tom Hanks movies! They're all incredible.

Tom has a lot of great movies - hard to pick a favorite. But the first one I think of when you say Tom Hanks is Big.

Tom Hanks two worst movies were Joe versus the volcano and the man with one red shoe. Great reaction as always.
