A LOT of you recommended this one on my Chopper video and wow, thank you to everyone that did. Absolutely loved it!! It was so unexpected.
Bronson is a 2008 British biographical black comedy prison-drama film directed by Nicolas Winding Refn.
The film stars Tom Hardy as Michael Peterson, known from 1987 as Charles Bronson. The film follows the life of this prisoner, considered Britain's most violent criminal, who has been responsible for a dozen or so cases of hostage taking while incarcerated. He was given the name Charles Bronson by his fight promoter, for his bare-knuckle fighting years.
Born into a respectable middle-class family, Peterson became known as one of the United Kingdom's most dangerous prisoners. Because of his violence, Bronson was repeatedly put into isolation or solitary confinement, which may have contributed to his emotional problems.
I'm really looking forward to discovering more from Tom Hardy! Movies on my list include the Dark Knight Trilogy (not sure if he's in all of them) Legend, Tinker Tailor Soldier, Mad Max: Fury Road and Locke. Let me know what I should watch next! 😃

Charles Bronson and Tom Hardy would talk over the phone while he was researching the role and they became great friends. In one of their conversations Tom was telling Charles how he wasn't feeling too good after a bad break up. Charles said to him in response: "Tom can you remember the floods that happened recently? Where that young lad got his foot caught in a sewer grate? Nobody could get him out in time and he drowned? Well that would not have happened to me. I would have told them to Cut. It. Off. Now. What I'm trying to say is Tom, is sometimes you need to cut a piece of yourself off in order to grow. In order to move on". Tom said that really stuck with him and he thinks about it all the time. He even improvised the "cut a piece of yourself off" quote into one scene in Legend.

There was an escape from Broadmoor in 1981 and we had to be collected from school by our parents. This made sense apart from two brothers who were 6ft 3 (1.90) and 6ft 5 (1.95). They had to wait for their 5ft (v. short) umbrella-wielding mother, to walk the 500m from home and secure their safety. Oddly, when I just checked the year, there was loads of stuff about a 2nd escape in three weeks but very little about the 1st, which is the one that this one was.

I worked for the Director on a Netflix show called Copenhagen Cowboy, (I look like Bronson big, bald with a moustache - and it struck a chord with director) so i had the chance to talk to him about the movie. The story behind it is fascinating to put it mildly. Some of the stuff he told I don’t think i can retell, but there was some interesting names in the talks for the lead role, luckily it was Tom who got it! The movie is a combination of a biopic and the directors own ambition in life. The fact that it was such a cheap production resulted in the movies stylistic look and locations. The music is so specifically chosen to set the mood and the 80’s theme is something he has used in his other projects as well. By far the best movie ever and a great director!

Of those on your radar, Fury Road is definitely the best, followe by the Dark Knight. Bronson loved this movie, in case you werent aware. I think the general consensus is that Bronson has an unquenchable need for attention - and he found it in violence, although quite a bit of what he did was just stupid. Its worth bearing in mind that some of the people he took hostage over the years were so traumatized by the experience that they never worked again and had to go on disability pensions. Interestingly, its probably true that Chopper Read also had an unquenchable need for attention - when he was alive he was always popping up in the public eye one way or another. Both men seemed to prefer the attention their crimes gave them despite the consequences. One of the things about Bronson is that he did so much crazy and violent stuff that this movie touches on maybe only 25% of it - or less! - and even then only quickly on each incident. It would be impossible to make a movie about all of Bronson's violence and crazy behaviour. I wouldnt feel sorry for him. Bronson - or salvador, since he changed his name after this movie - is living his best life. ps two of my cousins were psychiatric nurses in Broadmoor. They probably know Bronson. One of them had the yorkshire ripper and ronnie kray as "clients". My grandad warned the kray twins off our area of london before i was born.

As for this film, incredible performance and a killer soundtrack. It was very weird for me at the time of release to hear the guy from maybe the worst Star Trek movie was headlining an acclaimed biopic on the weird nutcase the tabloids would occasionally do stories about but he absolutely killed it. Charlie's in his 70s now, and still inside. If only the guy had gotten some kind of help but fat chance of that with the criminal justice system over here.

A "buckshot" shotgun shell has several metal pellets in it, usually around eight pellets. There is also bird-shot which has smaller pellets and are far more of them. The point to cutting the barrel of a shotgun is to increase the spread of the pellets. The shorter the barrel the more spread the buckshot or bird-shot will have. It reduces the effectiveness of the shotgun shell, but it also makes it easier to shoot without having to aim. An added benefit is that it's easier to hide and carry, these type of shotguns were common for criminals in Australia and the UK, because pistols weren't as commonly used or owned. You can usually find a hunting shotgun and then cut it down for illegal use.

Love this reaction, the movie is so underrated and it’s definitely one of Tom Hardy‘s best roles. The great thing about it is, even though the movie has taken some autistic license with some of the scenes, if you actually know Charlie and what he is like, this is the way he thinks, so the movie is actually a lot more factual than people realise.

Thank you for the fantastic reaction! I’m so stoked people are reacting to this, the performance of a lifetime and a unique director firing on all cylinders, you put it perfectly. It’s art. Tom Hardy is basically excellent in everything he does, but since no one has mentioned it, The Drop with him and James Gandolfini is an underrated crime flick worth watching. Nicolas W Refn also directed the Pusher trilogy and Drive, which are his more “traditional” (I use the term loosely) movies and fantastic in their own ways as well. Bronson is my favorite of his more experimental ones, but Valhalla Rising, Only God Forgives, and The Neon Demon are all arresting and very evocative in their own ways, and each more brutal than the last. Sorry to gush, but it was a great reaction! ❤

A fitting follow up would be to watch "Tom Hardy talks about becoming Bronson (2008)". It is the opposite of all the usual self absorbed, Hollywood type pompous word salad. Simply a very genuine and interesting thing to watch and listen to. :)

The part about him fighting a dog was true, many interviews about bronson have stated the fact on multiple occasions. The guy was an animal in the bare knuckle scene, after beating basically everyone they throw at him, other fighters began to fear him. So they found the next best thing, a rottweiler. He killed it in a £10,000 underground, bare knuckle fight. Even many hardened criminals, who spent time in prisons served time in held great fear of the man, some even heard Bronson screaming out some of the men's names in a horrific tone.

I love Tom Hardy, watched many of his movies, one of my favourites is Legend where Tom plays both of the identical twins Reggie and Ronnie Kray as they rise through the ranks of the criminal underworld to become two of London's most dreaded gangsters. However, I have never seen Bronson, after your review its going on my list for the weekend. Thank you.

A full barrel shot gun keeps all the pellets (shot) together for a longer distance, slowly expanding the cone of pellets. So when shooting birds you need longer distance and the cone to increase the chance of a number of pellets hitting the bird bringing it down. You saw off most of the barrel, it becomes easier to conceal, it also causes the pellets to instantly start to spread into a large cone in a very short space, hence a scatter gun, let one of these off in a room and everyone in the room is going to get hit by pellets. Hope that helps 😁

To answer your question about the sawed off shotgun thing Concealablility with little loss to the damage they can cause You can hide one easier then a full length one and it's almost as damaging as it would be in a full length with little trade off
