Tom Holland is getting honest about his journey with sobriety. "The Crowded Room" star joined the "On Purpose with Jay Shetty" podcast on Monday and opened up about when he realized he wanted to stop drinking. "I just sort of said to myself, like, 'Why? Why am I enslaved to this drink? Why am I so obsessed by the idea of having this drink?' ” he explained. During the candid conversation, he also reflected on how drinking was affecting him. "I can't believe the difference that I feel from not drinking. I feel amazing," he added. Tom shared that his journey started when he decided to challenge himself to dry January and kept it going. "By the time I got to June first I was the happiest I'd ever been in my entire life," he shared adding that changing his lifestyle has "honestly been the best thing I’ve ever done."

Tom Holland, the actor known for his role as Spider-Man, opened up about his journey with sobriety in an interview on the "On Purpose with Jay Shetty" podcast. Initially planning to do a dry January, Holland realized his obsession with alcohol and extended his sobriety journey. He struggled to be social without drinking and began to worry about having an alcohol problem. Determined to prove himself wrong, he committed to six months without alcohol and experienced significant positive changes in his mental and physical well-being. Holland admitted to being addicted to alcohol but expressed that distancing himself from the drinking culture has been the best decision he's made. He also discussed keeping his relationship with Zendaya private and finding solace in playing golf.

Exact same situation here, once the first drink went down it was just constantly more and more telling myself “ah I think I’m sobering up, one more drink to keep things going!” Sober now for about 2 1/2 years. It was tough at first and I still do long for a drink from time to time but I know that my addictive personality won’t stop at “just a drink or two”. I’m just saying this right now alcohol is a scary path and everyone is different. I was drinking only on occasions and sometimes weekends for along time . Then it slowly turned into me drinking everyday right when I got outta work . I would only eat a half of meal so I would make room for more beer and I drank my brain into a deep depression. Something I never felt . Just saying try keeping it under control cause I was in a really dark path with drinking . Glad I quit

I just quit cold turkey a few weeks ago after going through a pretty traumatic event. Id say i was similar, maybe 3 days a week. Even if id push it and go a week without, id then get absolutely blasted and feel like itd set me back and i always take days to recover. Its really good youre having these introspective thoughts about your well being, ive used alcohol as a coping mechanism for years as ive had mental health issues for a long time. They dont mix. It'll be worth a serious attempt for you to try to cut back for your long term physical and mental health, and possibly quit all together if you deem it necessary. Not that its at all easy. Best of luck for the future, and im very sorry for your loss.

I used to love a drink in my 20s, loved going out to pubs and night clubs, was all I looked forward to is finishing work for the week and going out. But then when I hit my 30s, I was just like "I can't handle these hangovers" so I just eventually stopped, now I might drink 3 or 4 times a year or on a special occasion, but I just don't really like drinking anymore. Which is a good thing I suppose, I can still drink to be social but I don't crave alcohol. My friend on the other hand had a real problem with drink, I'm proud of him, but he says it's a real struggle still after 15 year maybe more, sober. He said he know if he had just one taste he'd relapse and be on a week long drinking session.

Very interesting, in particular about the alcohol thing - quitting for a week or a month or even 2-3 months is one thing, but in my experience, taking it to 6 months and beyond is when one really starts getting free of the damn thing. Sure, you start feeling good after the first week or two but getting it past 6 months is key. Just IMHO.
