Janis and Tom have been my very much love and respect since I was a lil girl. You should do live with Janis and watch her do little girl blue on Tom's show. And YES HIS VOICE IS POWERFUL ANDso is JANIS.THATS WHY THEIR THE BEST BECAUSE THEY ARE PASSIONATE TO SINGING. I ABSOLUTELY 💘 LOVE THEM BOTH AND IM 64 AND WATCH THEM ALL MY LIFE.
Joyous Janis and Tom- what chemistry! That’s Janis’ band she’s leading, too! The full Monterey Pop version of Ball and Chain is great with the first band she was in- Big Brother and the Holding Company. And--- I was there, Harri!!!
Tom Jones was so square. Janis Joplin was so cool. This pairing really was a laugh at the time. In retrospect... it still is. LOL But it's always a pleasure to see Janis.
This was great! Amazing meeting of two of the best. Janis Joplin appeared several times on “The Dick Cavett Show”. His show seemed like an unlikely place to see her, but he saw something special in her that many others never knew until after her death. You can find clips from these appearances on RU-vid and they are well worth watching. 🌺✌️
My favourite 3 music videos all Janis and all live........"Little Girl Blue" [Tom Jones Show 69] "Ball & Chain" [Monterey Pop Live 67] "Summertime" [ Live 69 ]
Greetings from Germany...i laughed my ass of..as Tom apperence as 'Guest star' in 'Fresh Prince of Bel Air...doing the 'Carlton Dance' with Carlton...just priceless.....i'm sure you watched every episode of Will, Carlton, Jeffrey etc. (R.i.P Uncle Phil 'awesome' James Avery) ✌
Harri , Brooklyn N.Y sends you all the love.. In my attempt at the cockney accent,, ''ello luv''.. Keep finding these gems from yesteryear.. Once again great job Harri!!
I saw Janis in concert with this band just after leaving Big Brother and The Holding Co. Incredible performance by all. I think Janis held the stage on this song.
On This Is Tom Jones from 1969-1971, Tom Jones sang with almost everyone who was anyone in that era: Stevie Wonder, Little Richard, Wilson Pickett, Tina Turner, Jerry Lee Lewis, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, Joe Cocker, the Supremes, Ray Charles, Cher... the list goes on and on. Tom could sing great with anyone in any genre. And many of those are on RU-vid.
I'm over hearing cracking up lol. Your first comment after pausing was completely reversed in my head. I was floored that Tom is able to keep up with Janis. Her stage presence and performing ability is so unique that to this day every try to make a biopic about her has failed because they can find no one to match her style. And here Tom Jones of all people is slaying it with her. And that is not a dig at Tom who defines performance. But of all the people you'd think of Tom Jones isn't the first to pop into your head when you think "Who would you like to see perform with Janis?"
Great reaction to a very fun, energetic video. I think Janis was more to deal with than Tom realized! As for “Ball and Chain” - there’s no studio version. What most people refer to is the live Monterey Pop Festival performance. Taken in perspective - she was young, and relatively unknown outside of San Francisco. This is a great document of her first big exposure to a large audience. She was still learning. A year later the album “Cheap Thrills” - a classic - was released with “Ball and Chain,” recorded a year later. This too is a must listen (audio only) both the band and she are much tighter and focused after a year of touring! It’s incredible!
I was wondering if you were going to do this one. Tom doing Long Time Gone with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young from his TV show is also one to check out.
And Tom was and is so grounded, Gentleman..i never heard his name when it comes to disgusting or negative behavier of Superstars in the news. No drunken Blackouts, drugs, jail, or stuff like that. Ok, maybe some cool funny Sex stories...but, hey, its just him...the 'Tiger'..hehe. ..damn, and i'm sure, if he only knew it at that time, he would have saved Janis from f.cking Heroin, just by talking and taking some care of Janis, such a powerful Charisma this man called his own. Only a few got that spirit, to light up the room, just with a little smile of him. I always imagine him in a Dark room, a movie Theater, or a "Only Ladies Club". And in this Piano Black dark and silent room, suddenly his warm and damn smooth voice fullfill the room with "It's not unusual.."...hell, my lord..
At top of youtube touch the search magnifying glass then type tom jones show singing with guests. It was a thing that singers with their own shows would invite singers or bands that would let them sing with them. Good adverts for both. Janis had an extreme fondness for Southern Comfort and live shows showed her to be more animated than studio but the quality of the music still was the best in my book. Longer with parts that never made it to album and some strange addons but still good.
Battle of the Belters..... two historic heavyweights go toe-to-toe..... both of these legends were born with built-in 350 watt per channel amps. definitely, definitely, definitely watch Janis's Ball and Chain at the Monterey Pop Festival FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!! here's the reason..... this is where almost everyone saw her for the FIRST time. if you like raw, powerful, gutsy, crazy stankface-filled live performances..... I consider Janis #2 all-time but the OG Queen of "girls gone wild". Beth Hart Live at the Paradiso is THE EPITOME of letting go during a show tho... I might be biased because she once replied to me, saying I made the best comment ever on her video.
mickey mayfield took your advice and watched liliac on you tube. How have they slipped under my radar? I will be watching a lot more of them. I owe you mate. Thank you.
Liliac is a family band, father is from transylvania (really), and liliac is Romanian for bat(vampire), they do covers and originals they are from 13 to 21 and they are 🔥Fire. Their masterpiece is sail away but their song mars (live from Cummings ga) shows their musical expertise. Melody the lead singer is 19 and is a truly unique talent heavily influenced by Ronnie James Dio but sounds like a crossbetween Janis Joplin and Joan jett
