One of the best bits of the Sal - Tom talks is how honest and above board it is. If Sal is not into something that much , he will say it so, not pretty it up because someone is giving him a valuable interview. And Tom is always very fair in accepting any comment, and does not try to push something so hard like others, it's just GOOD
Yep. Sals criticisms are always on point because you can tell, even when he doesn’t like a book, he genuinely tries to understand it and where the author was coming from.
Ah yes new comicpop Tom King interview. These are always great, you two have a great chemistry and the convo is always the right amount of nerdy and informative. And these interviews have directly influenced me to check out a lot more of his stuff after not really digging his Batman run. I wish Tom was a monthly guest!
Wow Tom's comment at the end about how much sals fans embrace Tom's work! You two are amazing and it's so great hearing you guys talk about your love of comics
I've only enjoyed a few select Tom King books, but he does seem like a cool guy who loves what he does. Gotta respect that. This was a great interview, looking forward to more!
Only Sal could get Tom King (former CIA agent) to lower his guard enough to leak one of the most anticipated pieces of comic book movie news of the decade.
Tom is speaking to my heart with his approach to Wonder Woman. She should have been bigger than she has been for years. I hope this gives an iconic approach to her that people look back to for guidance. Like Batman the Animated Series did for Batman. I’m so excited for the future or her character.
That "thank you" to Sal at the end hit me in the feels. Sal and Tiffany have great taste and aren't afraid to share it with all of us. I'm sure they're not making or breaking books, but I will read anything they recommend.
I keep repeating myself, but I'm so proud of Sal. I remember the early days of the channel when Sal was discouraged about the success of Big Shots bc no one wanted to hear from creators. I even agreed. But since then, I've come to love these interviews bc it's the best insight into the industry. It's better PR than the companies do for themselves. I'm glad he didn't let it go.
Nice to see Tom King on the show again. Looking forward to seeing his influence on the Hollywood side of comics. I think his style of writing suits it.
@@garycannon4644 I think Tom King's comics would benefit from the kind of discipline required of a screenplay. What is wallowing in despair might become a little more poignant with such discipline
Grateful to have been watching the debut and caught the news when it dropped and before the initial vid got taken down. I'm sorry for any headaches that caused the both of you, but I'm glad that it seems to be cool now. Hope you, Tiffany, Ben, Ethan & Dana are having a wonderful day.
It's still not official to the rest of the public or any major movie news site. Might not be the worst idea to stop talking about it in case more talk gets drummed up and Tom King risks his job at being a pillar of the new DCU
@@sonofvicvega816 1) That's operating under the assumption that the folks running the channel are asleep at the wheel and can't hide comments they don't want seen. 2) If there was a risk of that, it hit peak when the story was shared and news publications circulated it. A couple folks talking about it on the video where it was mentioned isn't doing anything. If you don't like what I have to say, you DO have the option of not clicking the comments section .
I truly gotta commend Sal here because his chemistry with authors like Tom king and Joshua Williamson are truly remarkable and the only reason that I pick up new DC and big two comics. It’s sad to hear, but the King/Zdarsky/Williamson interviews on this channel are the only incentive and advertisement that make me want to check DC comics.
Tom has been killing it since the pandemic. Gotham City Year One is my favorite book of his right now, followed by Killing Time and Human Target. Oh, and I was here Friday for the thing we don't cover here, and I can't wait for it! And Danger Street has been great. Read it! Everyone!
God, Tom is such a cool guy. Not that Sal's criticism was particularly negative or anything, but anyone who can take criticism that well is good in my book.
So excited this was reposted! Missed the initial post and I really wanted to hear yall talk about the WW run. The DC Studios stuff is cool and I'm happy if it got more eyes on the channel tho minus any trouble it may have caused yall
People on Twitter have been complaining that WW isn't being written by women and it bothers me that we've resorted to disliking things strictly based on the gender/race/sexuality of the person writing said thing.
@@johnthai6188 true, I won’t dispute that. I’m just also saying that there are female writers for WW, it’s just some people don’t look hard enough. Also tbh even though I love Tom King, I don’t know how I feel about him doing another on-going series after his Batman run, I’d feel a little more comfortable if Greg Rucka came back lol.
@@lexofpower2822 i'm curious where he goes with the run, because he described his run as, kinda like a superman up in the sky or a supergirl woman of tomorrow. if it has the same tone as those books, but as an ongoing i'm in. so it won't be like his black label books, or even his batman run. which in those, he's deconstructing those characters.
Still need to catch up on King’s Gotham City: Year One but love seeing him on the show again! Very excited for his presence in this new DCU, and pray everyday that DC lets this man write for the mainline Superman book
I'm excited to see what Tom King has in store for Wonder Woman. Though I will admit, as a life-long Wonder Woman fan, in the past I have been disappointed by the runs of writers who preface their runs by saying "I never had any interest in Wonder Woman." I've enjoyed King's work in the past, so I believe he can do something interesting with Diana. But I've tempered my expectations for this run after this interview.
This was such a GREAT interview Tom is a guy who gets Sal REALLY comfortable and as a fan of the show it’s great to see :) as a Huge Wonder Woman fan I’m looking forward to this reveals initially I was a little skeptical but I’m optimistic now.
Well, I've been looking forward to finishing this one after it got removed when I was half-way through Tom is always a great interviewee and I wish him the best with Wonder Woman! 🙌
Snyder/Nolan bringing Miracle in a Justice League movie as the one who defeats final boss Darkseid could be the greatest 'pop' in comic movie history. I'm thinking Undertaken vs Kane Wrestlemsnia 20 style entrance 😂😂😂
Extremely excited for Tom King’s run, but if you haven’t read Wonder Woman in a minute, the Cloonan + Conrad run was solid for 2-3 volumes. Event fell a little flat, but the buildup and fallout were handled very well. From what Tom has said, I think his run will be a perfect jumping on point and pallet cleanser but don’t be afraid to go back! A lot has happened!
It's sorta baffling when anybody gets real upset over King's work, but I've enjoyed damn near everything he's written. Only exception is HIC (although the art is quite fantastic). I'm looking forward to getting more oversized hardcovers of his stories!
The perfect way to encapsulate Babylons effect on the audience is the opening sequence in which a giant elephant literally shits on the camera/your face! It’s such a disjointed mess. 1/3 of it is great and interesting but like Mr King said it’s basically Singing in the Rain made by a wannabe edge lord director preoccupied with using the debauchery of 1920s Hollywood to shock you! A prime example of what happens when an artist has proven themselves so they get a blank check and no restrictions. 90% of the time it’s an expensive disaster waiting to happen.
26:33 Uh oh, better use that nepo baby clout cause I think you guys just stumbled onto Toms next breakout character inspired by his badass psychedelic mom! Warner Bros/Discovery a division of Disney/Weyland Yutani Corp. Presents TOM KING’S “THE LetterBOXER” “Ratio THIS!” (gunshot) Look who’s got final edit.
DC has treated WW like garbage for so long. The only one who cared was George Perez! He changed the character for the better. His take flowed like a symphony. DC however didn’t and still doesn’t care. If you want to make WW great, you have to keep her consistent and upgrade her lack of D List villains. Make them serious threat! You also have to make Steve Trevor relevant again. Give him a background. Her powers have to be shown better artistically. Show her speed, show her strength, upgrade the damn lasso and make it a universal weapon to be reckoned with. The Amazons/Gods need to be fleshed out more. The basic point is that she needs detail! Hope King succeeds!
Tom King's specific thematic styling is either great or terrible (usually the latter). But I'm cautiously hopeful for Wonder Woman. All runs since Greg Rucka have been above average at best. Diana deserves amazing stories. Woman of Tomorrow and Mister Miracle were excellent and so far Danger Street (I'm 2 issues in) is too.
If you think Supergirl, Human Target, Sheriff of Babylon, Omega Men, Mister Miracle, Vision and Strange Adventures are an example of "usually terrible," I can't help you.
@@comicpopreturns I thought they said both Supergirl and Mister Miracle were excellent. Maybe King's other books just didn't resonate with Shawn the same way it did for you.
