He’s a recovering alcoholic and drug addict and makes all of his songs and markets himself by himself along with his GF Nova Rockafeller. She is also Canadian and shoots all of the videos that Tom makes. He is able to speak his mind because he is independent and is not signed to any record label that can censor him. Tom grew up in western Canada in a very loving and supportive family... He did make some some bad choices in his life but he blames nobody but himself.

His song and video "I wish" gives some perspective on his childhood, the later parts are in some other ones, it definitely wasn't just a consistent "upraising" or whatever throughout his life, n came to America at some point, the song "castles" is a good example of his community when came to America, he went around asking random ppl their stories and made a song out of it, certain songs give perspective on his past, or like "sober" n his struggles, idk there's quite a few where he shows himself and not just pointing out the problems in society but actually gets deep in the human struggle

Short bio: Tom was born in Canada. Had a middle-class upbringing, but was bullied a LOT. He moved to America because it's where he feels the most comfortable. He IS very smart; had a good education. But good into alcohol and drugs quite early. He's also got mental health issues, which he does sing about. PS Nova Rockefeller is his producer and girlfriend.

I almost passed it by due to "judging the paint job not the engine" Anyway, been hooked ever since. Toms story: Tom MacDonald is 100% independent! He’s had major record labels after him daily for at least 6 years and he turns them ALL down! After you listen to a few of his songs, especially the music industry and sad rappers, you’ll understand why. He writes all of his songs, makes his beats, and his girlfriend Nova Rockafeller shoots and edits all of his videos! That’s why dear rappers is so simplistic because they were just starting out really. He dabbled in bands and had managers in the past, but that’s why he struggled so much and that’s why he wasn’t as successful as he should’ve been until he wrote dear rappers. That’s after he had cut everybody out and started doing things his way on his time with no middleman! He spent about nine months battling crippling depression. He contemplated suicide several nights and he was a severe alcoholic! After what seemed to be an eternity, he spiritually came out of that depression and quit everything cold turkey, not only alcohol but also marijuana and certain anxiety medication. Him and Nova could barely pay rent to keep a home after that but he stayed strong and ultimately wrote Dear Rappers which was his very first video to go viral, and the rest is history! He shoots his videos wherever is convenient whether it’s in his own home, in his backyard, or in an alley! He will even go in grocery stores and randomly shoot a scene for a video lol. He personally signs albums ordered by his fans (for a short time with each new drop) and he also packages and ships the albums and all merchandise with close family and friends assistance hangovergang.com. Tom has a wild back story. I apologize for this long post. I got comment diarrhea (gross symbolism, sorry). If any of my phrases seem weird, feel free to ask (I am a 64 year old Hispanic American - 2nd gen - and I sometimes use slang from when I was your age, a long, long time ago). ***Personal Opinion on Tom***: I think part of the anger Tom has towards the corporate music industry is due him buying into the message presented by rappers. He wound up depressed, messed up on alcohol and came close to suicide. This is also the first song that went viral and triggered how he came up. See “Dear Rappers” He couldn’t pay his bills AND was evicted, living on the street until he went back and lived at his mom’s for 9 months, fully disconnected from the world, not even interacting with other humans, contemplating suicide on the daily. He finally made his way back and has nothing nice to say about the music industry labels or the message they push to the mainstream. He will not compromise and had no choice but to be truly independent. His music is also his therapy for the darkness of the depression and anxiety - that monster never goes away, I know because I’ve tried to kill the one lurking in my shadows. If you check out “Sober”, you will get Tom’s story. He is an open book and knows that keeping it 💯 helps keep the monster locked down. His spoken word joints are also good for backstory. As you react to more of Tom’s tracks, im sure you’ll seen why there are 3 groups of people that listen to Tom’s tracks: 1. The haters. Never gonna change and the #hangovergang will always just wave🖕🏽🖕🏿🖕🏼 2. The people that feel the same way he does and like his message and that he holds the industry accountable: See “Blame The Rappers” ft DAX. Group 3 includes me and many others - keeping it real af: 3. We are people that have done battle with our own demons, such as alcohol, drugs, other addictions and depression. Many of us have even been close to suicide but we kept hanging on. We still fight our demons but we refuse to give them power over us. While Tom’s music is therapy for him, it’s also a source of strength for us. The thing that gives us the greatest power over the darkness is knowing we are not alone. That is why we are part of the #hangovergang, we will never be alone, there is strength in numbers. Lastly, some things I’ve learned after flipping the bird to Death 3 times: *: Life is full of absurdity. When non-critical shit happens (I.e. bought the wrong car part or the car part breaks), treat it is as an absurdity and laugh your ass off at it. That takes all the power away from absurdities. Things like dyslexia are also absurdities (I have it bad but joke about it because, well you know, it’s ABSURD!). PS: If Life gives you melons, you might be dyslexic. *: Life is a grand adventure. And, just like any roller coaster, there are scary parts and there are the thrills. All you have to remember is to Hold On Tight and enjoy the ride. Substances like alcohol and drugs don’t enhance the adventure, they will however, muddy the experience. *: You are not alone. No matter what struggles or challenges you may face, others have been there. There is no shame in the struggle, it’s what makes us stronger, like lifting weights. As we lift more, we get stronger but, there is a time when every weight lifter takes on a little more than they can safely handle and they ask someone to be a spotter, just in case. The only shame in life is when we are trying to “lift” more than we are able, but do not seek help from a spotter. There are lots of people who are willing to serve as a “spotter” when asked. #hangovergang forever - for life 🤟🏽🤟🏼🤟🏿

Tom is fantastic! He has stated many times, that he doesn't expect everyone to agree with him, he wants to start the nessary conversations. Unfortunately, haters will hear a portion of one song and pass judgment instead of really listening to the message in its entirety. Additionally, Tom is so versatile, has songs about addiction, recovery, mental health, survival, rock, pop, etc. Yet I can't tell you how many haters state that Tom is a political far right rapper. What they call political is really cultural craziness that is currently happening in the west. Problem is that Leftists have made EVERYTHING political...music, education , sports, religion, movies, speech, etc. Bottom line is haters are often mentally delusional, completely brainwashed with little ability to think for themselves.
