I think Tom does such an amazing job with inspirational songs like this, and "Cancer" and "I Don't Drink" because he makes no bones about where he's been and the wars he's fought. It helps him empathize so much with his audience and vice versa. Knowing he's actually been part of that harsh battle lets you know it's not just a well written phrase. It's a message from someone who's been there.

I worked with someone today that got me to open up. I told him how even though I quit drinking years ago how I have been so tempted. See lately I’ve gone through so much emotional pain and I just wish I didn’t have to feel my feelings. Crying at unexpected times always feeling on edge. Doubting everything in my faith. Been feeling unworthy. I get in my car and thought oh Toms song should be out now (East Coast time) . I knew the song was called fighter so I’m ready to hear a dissing haters song or something like that. I play fighter and cry like a baby, it was as if God was talking to me. So if you don’t like this song or want to say it should have been this or that. Shut the hell up! Sorry but it is perfect!
