I met Tom Petty when I was a kid. My dad told me to go say hi to him when he recognized him at a gas station, and that he was the guy who sung this song. I told him I liked his singing. I still remember how big his smile was. I couldn't have been more than 7. Man just seemed like a normal, chill, good guy. RIP Tom.
I've met a few actors back in the 1970s mostly and one thing they like most is when you tell them how much you like their work. Tom's reaction to your son was quite normal. Tom knew that his fans were the reason why he made it big and likely never forgot that.
Ah, the days of playing GTA San Andreas, flying in a Hydra or a Rustler, over the desert skies of Las Venturas with a 6 star wanted level, dog fighting with the military trying to blow you out of the sky with this song playing on K-DST in the background…. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Tom Petty and Rockstar have created some wonderful memories for us.
Weird. Why does anybody make comments like this? It used to be a thing to say, but honestly, although I am a "young" (lol) 36 years old, I have found that a ton of the folks my age and younger are down with more classic tunes than maybe any generation before them, and by them I refer to younger Millennials and Gen Z. Remember, my elder chum, there were probably old timers who asked why you were listening to the Beatles instead of listening to Benny Goodman or Scott Joplin. Btw, Joplin rules.
@@jameswolff5200I think the same thing, I have friends who are 22 who have listened to more rock than this guy will listen to in his entire life and they even play in rock bands, as well as older people who neither listen to rock nor like it... It depends on the taste of the person. person at the end
@@jameswolff5200For example, I am 23 and I spend my time listening to rock and my favorite melody a while ago was Mozart's lacrimosa, as I also listened to Tchaikovsky, he has some simply beautiful songs.
Best song to drive around the like maniac in a little town, drugged out of your mind with a hot half naked surfer girls on your side, knowing youre rich and have a case of whiskey and a bag of coke back in your trunk.
“When for the last time you close your mouth, your words and soul will belong to the world of no place and no time.” - Last line of the poem When I Die, by Rumi
Jikary Jack Is it slide guitar? I thought it was, but I watched a live version and the guitarist didn't have a bottle neck, but it sounds so much like slide
When my 26 year old son was 6, this was his jam! "Play the running down a dream song, Mom." As we drove down on old dirt road, windows down, volume up, sun through the glass, wind in our hair.... Best times ever.
wow im 13 so quite young but when ever we ride to the cottage we lissen to this song and its the best good to know somone else has had the same thing happen
That song was removed from the Playstation 3 version, Xbox 360, Definitive Edition and mobile versions.Only in GTA San Andreas classic can you hear it.
Would you still love him if you knew he was a flat earther? Thanks for trying to tell me in 1989 Tom, I'm using my bow and arrow right now to type this.
I just wanted to say thank you Mr. Tom Petty for making life more awesome with your wonderful music. May God bless you and your family too. #riptompetty
I'd be honored if some Petty fans would take a listen to my acoustic keyboard & vocal cover of INTO THE GREAT WIDE OPEN on my YT channel in tribute to one of the purest artists that the USA has ever produced. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Thank You Tom, THE LEGEND LIVES ON
Sparc Mac Nice. Gotta research that The area geographically. For me in the heart of Alberta it would be listening to toms album your gonna get it driving into banff on the west side of the Rocky Mountains. In winter or fall
Essa música me traz uma sensação diferente. Não só a nostalgia do GTA San Andreas, mas ela tbm fez parte da trilha sonora de um momento estranho da minha vida. Vai ficar marcada pra sempre
Hello, CD listeners. We've come to the point in this album where those listening on cassette (or records) will have to stand up (or sit down) and turn over the record (or tape). In fairness to those listeners, we'll now take a few seconds before we begin side two. Thank you. Here's side two.
I love this song and the bad ass video. This song is amazing cause it's about chasing your dreams and see where it leads to. Tom Petty wanted to follow his dreams after he heard Elvis Presley.
LYRICS: It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down I had the radio on, I was drivin' The trees went by, me and Del were singin' Little runaway, I was flyin' Yeah, runnin' down a dream Never would come to me Workin' on a mystery Goin' wherever it leads I'm runnin' down a dream Felt so good like anything was possible I hit cruise control and rubbed my eyes The last three days the rain was unstoppable And it was always cold, no sunshine Yeah, runnin' down a dream Never would come to me Workin' on a mystery Goin' wherever it leads I'm runnin' down a dream I rolled on, the sky grew dark I put my pedal down to make some time And there's something good waitin' down this road And I'm picking up whatever is mine Yeah, runnin' down a dream Never would come to me Workin' on a mystery Goin' wherever it leads I'm runnin' down a dream Yeah, runnin' down a dream Never would come to me Workin' on a mystery Goin' wherever it leads I'm runnin' down a dream
Being a millennial, Grand Theft Auto introduced my to classic rock like this, as I was brought up on traditional country music. I'm so glad we have the internet so we can listen to this whenever we want. Modern charts pop on the radio is unbearable.
One of my favorite guitar solos of all time. It fits so perfectly with the song. They way the guitar talks with the drums at the beginning of it. And I believe it was a single take right? Just amazing.
The Guitar Solo is STILL one of the most defining for me. One my top 3 Roadtrip songs...It's definitely on loop for 2 or 3 times. My Hats's off to your memory Mr. Petty!
Só as lembranças da época de GTA San Andreas no ps2 e toda vez que paro pra tomar um bom vinho escuto essa linda música, hoje é sex 12/05/2023 e provavelmente em 2030 ainda escutarei ❤❤❤
In the early 90's myself and a few friends saw tom play in Dublin , we were front stage and sang every song that night and at the end of the evening Tom came over to us and Tipped his Hat and smiled. It was so cool . Rest Easy Mate.
The 90's, whew, dogged a few close calls then . Kay sraaw siraa!! Tchanks? For watching out for me back ton the day!! I appreciate that. As for after 2017ish. Well what can I say, very nieve of me. Yep. Wisdom, earned one bad relationship at time, years worth of experience on what not to do.😂😂😂I did it. I Don't recommend that path. Live n learn. Evolution of the fittest. Savages out there for real cutting heads off with dull knives kinda Savage, like buttering bread.l ook it up? I speak the truth.
Love this tune, first time I heard American Girl was on a radio station in Boston in probably 1977 and couldn’t get enough. Wore all those early albums to pieces. After TP died, I changed the words to “the trees went by, me and Tom were singing, Little Runaway, I was flying”
Thanks, Tom Petty for the great song. It really helped me a lot to overcome the stress and challenges back in college and now working in the corporate world. Rest in Peace legend 🎸 Your music will always live in our hearts.
My son was about 5 & loved to air drum to this song. Once sitting in a parking lot waiting for his “performance” to end, I looked up & people were gathered watching him 😂 He had no idea. When the song ended they clapped…I thought he’d be embarrassed but no…he just grinned & waved ❤
One of my favourite animated music videos. Love the scooby doo references and how the video is in black and white with a square aspect ratio it gives it so much more charm.
never heard of him, until i realized i heard his songs like 1000 times without knowing its him. guys a legend,so many years after his death im upset like fuc. rest in peace ,legend.
I've been a fan since I was a kid in the 70's. He created an incredible amount of great music not just with the Heartbreakers, but also solo and with the Traveling Wilburys, the ultimate supergroup.
Man I still remember getting back from school, turning on the PS2 and the tv at full volume and start riding a full speed car in the desert in GTA SA. After that, I start seaching all the nice songs from this timeless game. The ending solo and Axl Rose as the K-DST station guy. 😎✊ You are legends folks! 👽👍👍
This song got me started as a Tom Petty fan. Seeing this video as a kid on Mtv blew mind. I saw it late one night as a teenager and it still blew my mind!! There will never be anyone quite like Tom. Thank you for all the great songs! RIP 💫 .
Early evening, last glow of sunshine shimmering in the air, cruising down the highway in a 120" super stretch limousine, windows partway down, this song comes on, I turn it up and all these years later I am still running down that dream. 🌠⚡ Moral; Life is short, be kind, be true to yourself, do your best and ef the rest. ☮️☯️
First time ever seeing this video, had no idea it would be a Winsor McCay tribute so I was pleasantly surprised. Winsor McCay was such an insane early animation figure. He a newspaper cartoonist who's raw talent made him such a solid animator. It's actually crazy how unparalleled his skills were right at the infancy of animated film, he was already decades ahead of Disney.
That is what life is all about running down a dream, fellow your heart, never give up. Chase you dream. The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty in dreams. RIP Tom
I miss Tom and his music....sadly he is gone but the music, he and the heartbreakers gave us forever truly makes a person as close to immortal as a one can be. thanks Tom - RIP

It's unfortunate that he's gone... He would have been 72 years "old" today... He will always be loved for what he had given the world... Rest in peace, Tom... We love and miss you! #TomPetty #TomPettyforever

What? He's dead too? Almost everytime i look for those songs i used to listen in gta sa on the internet the singers always happens that they have passed away :/
Alexandra Miller Still died too soon tho, he was a real musician the world needed someone who plays instruments and writes their own songs, no auto tune performances 😞
Now Tom Petty is Flyn' in Heaven now. Thanks for the Memories, Tommy. And letting Take Two & RockStar sample some of Your Tracks on GTA San Andreas & GTA 6.
My MTV days running home from school to turn on the tv, This is where I first met Tom Petty. Here I am a 64 yr old black woman still in love with his music. I'm so sorry his family lost🙏
WOW how so cool, I like it when celebrities behave kindly to fans and remember where they came from, we're all in the same world together. It never hurts to be nice 😊
We played this at my dad's funeral last year. He would take us on holiday every year and this was one of the many classics in our driving playlist. Everytime it plays I think of him, and roadtrips.
