This was the first of two encore songs from his last concert which was at The Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 25, 2017. So very sad. We will always miss him. He was such a big part of our lives.
You can see he's physically not in a great place but he never lost it. All those years touring, putting out new music, battling demons. Right up til the end, he never lost it. There will never ever be another Tom Petty.
Ohmygosh this poor guy had a major broken hip here in 09/2017, a complete and total clean break clear through. It was only one week before his death. His sweet wife, Dana, said he wasn’t going to sit in a chair or on a stool and perform on stage. I heard an interview with her after his death and she said he’d have to drive a golf cart up to the stage steps from backstage, and that no one ever really saw that. He hid his tremendous and excruciating pain from his fans. He didn’t want us to know. We love and miss you so very much TP. You’re smiling down upon us and you’re pain free. Bless your wife and daughters and your band mates. Y’all were like true brothers. TP your wonderful music lives on and every generation that comes after us loves you just as much as we do. My 2 boys certainly do! Rest well now our sweet friend 💞❤️💕
He was a musical genius, a super cool (but complicated) dude with a remarkable sense of humor, and sexy as hell. He seemed genuinely caring - & one who stood up for what he believed to be right. We lost a great rocker, who I felt like I knew personally through listening to his music so much. Love you lots, T. P. YOU'RE THE KING IN MY BOOK... RIP. . )
he was one of the great ones and I loved his music and his imagination. God bless you Tom Petty and my condolences to your family, may you all find peace. Amen Joan
Thank you for posting this! I have felt so depressed, just can't believe he is gone! He was a huge part of my high school years!! R.I.P Tom Petty! I will love you forever!!
Tom will be jamming with his buddies George, Roy & Prince ! I am writing this with tears in my eyes as I miss him like hell but I am grateful for the music he left for us to enjoy !
His last song was American Girl which was poetic in a sense, coming full circle back to the beginning. Petty is as great the Beatles, Stones, Dylan, Zep. He started a little later than those others and will get overlooked (just slightly) when it comes to that elite group. But make no mistake, that’s just a timing thing, he’s every bit as legendary as all the 60’s giants
Sounds unbelievable! Look at him! He will always be a star among stars and an angel in his fans hearts.one of my favorite songs. Thank you for sharing.😇🦆
I heard about Tom's heart attack just moments after learning of the Vegas shooting. A FaceBook post stated that the victims were being treated to an awesome Tom Petty concert in heaven. RIP to a 40-year legend, a musical musician, one of my most beloved artists.
Accidental overdose that caused cardiac arrest. That’s my understanding. It needs to be made clear it was an accidental overdose. R.I.P. and fly with the angels our sweet friend
Tom Petty's death was such a shock to me!! I grieved so bad that day, and I prayed before we knew his passing, that he would make it!! It was such a let down for me! Then the next day, early that morning, my father passed away! So now I'm grieving for two men, that I cared about! May their souls rest in peace. Amen. It's been almost 2 years coming up and it seems like their deaths were just yesterday! I continue to pray for their souls and hope God has them close to Him! God bless the families, involved!
Thank you, Skip, for sharing this. I attended the Hard Promises and Southern Accent tours ('81 & '85) .This really hurts. Your videos help. Thanks, again.
I can't believe the beginning of this when Tom comes out and bows down his fans! Have Mercy!,.. you know he was in pain & suffering,..but he never backed down! Rest in that room at the top now Tom,.you rocked this world while you were here!!!
I'm still shedding years over Tom's passing so hard to believe!😢an it's Jan.2018..soo sad..can't help but keep watching his videos an music.💙🎵🎤🎼🎸R.I.P.
He looked an ill man in February. This followed with a fractured hip on top of the other health problems. Question is why was he still at home with a full broken hip when he should have been immediately hospitalised. Also who gives opiods to someone who has a history of heroin addiction?? I think there is a fair bit of damage control with the public statement but bottom line is that it's nobody's business. Great songwriter and seemed a genuinely nice person.
What a bad ass..performing with a completely broken hip a bad knee...no one can replace him! May his Legend live on! Benmont, Mike, and the rest of the band go off on this...incredible. Miss him so much💔💔💔
If only he’d taken care of health business instead of this concert, he would still be here doing what he loved. Being a great guy can kill you sometimes! Miss you Tom! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻♥️😢😔
Tom Petty wrecks me, so so great. Chain smoking since high school -- kicked heroin, but lucky not to have his heart give out earlier after so much tobacco poisoning. What an immense talent, wish he and we had another 20 years of him!
I guess the guy is trying to warn you about tobacco being as bad as Fentanyl look what happened to the hips of that hip 5150 Van Halen cigarettes really hurt him too their choice
He was a down to the bone rock n roller and such a cool guy. When I see this I really miss him still. I couldn't believe it when he died. So sad. Hope you having a good time wherever you are Tom.
It was always so obvious how much he loved his fans and how much he enjoyed making music. I thank God I lived during his lifetime. He brought so much joy.
Oh, how i wish this tour had been canceled. His fans would have understood. He needed medical attention desperately. I can’t imagine the horrific pain he was in with a broken hip! God bless him.
RIP Thomas Earl Petty. 1950-2017. You made great music for many many years that people still love today. I listen to your music almost every day. I hope that you are Free Fallin’, n Learning to fly in paradise. I won’t back down without you. My favorite song by you is I won’t back down. Almost all of your songs are awesome. RIP. I hope you’re rocking in heaven
Geoff Taylor well he is 70, heavily medicated, and playing with a broken hip. Still singing, playing, and conducting like a brilliant genius. Not to mention the Rock and Roll moves he’s throwing around with, once again, A BROKEN HIP! I get it, it’s not like it was 10-20 years ago, but I don’t see him “Going through the motions”, I see an old Rock Legend pouring his heart out to the best of his abilities.
After he died I listened to all of his music. He is in the top 5 of American singer/song/writers. If you put him first or second i won't argue with you. I think Dylan is the best and then it is Petty, Waits, Simon, Prine, Zevon, Holly , Springsteen, and you can add 2.
Did not know there was a recording existing of this. Thanks for sharing one of his last performances. He definitely shows he is hurting the way he is moving around but he is really trying to entertain the audience all the way to the end with Mike Campbell and the band. This is one of the rockers from late in their career.
I own it, bought it several years ago. I've been a Tom Petty and Heartbreakers fan since about 1977-1978. My first band played a cover of " Breakdown". I miss him more than words can tell.
He’s was perfection always even though he was in a great amount of pain. Truly loved his fans. Wish I saw him in concert. The world lost a true American Treasure. 😢😢😢🎩🎩😢❤️❤️
Seen him in Hyde park London July 9th..I had flown back from Poland the day before as my son who lives there was 9 and I never miss his birthday.i was never going to kiss Tom petty it was mynfirst time seeing him himself and the Heartbreakers were fantastic 😍..god love him take care of him the greatest band and I got to see them..Tom was so cool
