Hope LM add those tools as default in next generation. You right about the mini driver to be add on the cap and let space to awl! My pleasure to help a good Texan friend! Keep making this great review Ben. A big hug to you brother. God bless you
Tom Sachs creations are truly works of art and so hard to actually acquire. Yesterday’s Mr Crunch was very interested, today’s Tom Sachs Charge+ is awe inspiring! As always, your practical perspective of a this artistic tool is a great way for the rest of us to appreciate it. Thank you
Exept that tom sachs never makes any of the NASA things, they are made by Nike, Spyderco or Leatherman. He only signs and sells them for a 1000% markup it was a personal gift by tom sachs. only 20 were ever sold, Tom Sachs kept the other 80 to give to influencers to promote his brand. He did nothing on this multitool but the engraving and the bead.
Thank you again for showing the little details of this highly exceptional tool. We wouldnt have had the chance to see these technical details. Also Thumbs up for the elegant background in these videos.
I have a friend that worked for nasa in the early 90's and leatherman gave all the engineers a nasa branded leatherman and he passed it on to me and will be in my collection for years to come
Wow that is an awesome tool, love the little intricacies they put into the design. I also like the styling but could see how it wouldn't be for everyone. Congrats on adding it to the collection and keep up the great work man!
Thank you Ben i am learning so much... I will definitely be trying all the knots next . but I need to finish deciding what Leatherman to get. You are articulate and do a very thorough breakdown of each multi tool.. That makes it very helpful.. Thank you Glad you got the "Crunch" And then the Special "NASA" one Boy your collection just got a couple new shining stars.. Ha ha ha ha ha Have a nice evening.. Wow
Wow another awesome video! I did not know that the NASA leatherman had those smaller tools integrated into the scales. The fact that they proved it could be done I wish they would add that to their popular models such as the wave+ and surge.
This was not a pickup, it was a gift by tom sachs. only 20 were ever sold, Tom Sachs kept the rest to give to influencers to promote his brand. He did nothing on this multitool but the engraving and the bead.
AvE got one and reviewed it - his scribe broke basically right out of the hop. High hardness usually equates to brittleness. I'll save my money and buy a regular LM. This is an art piece.
Отличный автор канала ! Лучший в мире иультитул ! Профессиональная оценка ! Спасибо ! Great channel author ! The best multitool in the world ! Professional evaluation ! Thanks !
@@txtoolcrib I have only ever seen 3: Adam Savage showed one on his YT channel, AVE was using one in a video (he never mentioned it and it was filthy 🤣), and now yours. Congrats Ben! You gonna throw it in the toolbox and get it all greasy??
I like the scale tools ideas. I would pay a premium if they did a tool with the micro driver mod like you had suggested. I think they could also come up with a way to use the tool as a holder for the pen so you can hold the tool while you write.
The tweezers are similar to the squirt tweezers, but I believe the angle of the bend at the end is the opposite angle. They are compared to the squirt ones that I was able to pick up.
I'd love to own this multitool. It's the most beautiful tool around and it's designed by Tom Sachs. I'll probably never own one and that's sad. I think I'll buy a Mr Crunch
Great tool, would love to see a matt grey, matt black and/or matt navy blue version. I think the red NASA logo would really pop against that kind of background.
it was a personal gift by tom sachs. only 20 were ever sold, Tom Sachs kept the other 80 to give to influencers to promote his brand. He did nothing on this multitool but the engraving and the bead.
I'm a fan of little promotional and souvenir SAKs, nothing grandiose, I pick one up when they're around no mad scramble, they're just little markers in time but this is the ultimate!!!!! Only thing I could see equaling this is a Space Corp's multitool. I'm not a covetous person usually but I am today!!!! A great little acquisition!!!!!!
I’m really fortunate to both be able to acquire this one and to be able to share it with the community. I only wish that this was a more standard model so that I could actually use it without depreciating the value of a highly expensive tool.
Welcome aboard my friend! There are a bunch of quality multi tools out there to choose from. My default position for us tradesmen is the Leatherman Surge. It’s all a matter of finding the right fit for you though.
Thank you for all the help with the videos and comments. Next paycheck I will be getting a Surge through your affiliate link to help support all the good work you do on this channel. Thanks again!
I appreciate that very much. I hope it’s the right fit for you. I couldn’t even begin to calculate how many trips mine has saved me from having to go back to the trailer. It has paid for itself 100 fold!
Tom sachs doesn't actually make anything. He only rebrands things with NASA and sells them for a 1000% markup. His art is made from Cardboard/papermachee or very very crudely shaped ceramics.
A pen is probably the most useful tool you could have, verse the scribe which is easily supplemented with any other hard edge. The best solution would have been to have the pen attach onto the end, and have both
If the standard Charge had the extra tools, I’d probably have bought one, instead of the Wave+. But the tool I’d like to see more widely utilized is the package opener from the Wingman. Give me a Wave, or a Charge, with that… and I’ll try to be first in line!
They should make an awl tool for the bit driver, its beefy enough. I have ground one of my thinnest TIG electrode to be a scribe that fits into the microdriver.
What do you think is the real chance of them adding any of these tools to any production level multi tool? They seem to be some fairly simple additions, but not sure what Leatherman's track record through their history has been.
@@txtoolcrib That is really unfortunate. I appreciate Leatherman for their quality of product-I am frustrated at their lack of ingenuity and willingness to try new things.
@4:50 Since I recently BROKE the clip on my Wave TWICE in the last 3 months... I am interested in this feature. I think this permanent clip will be stronger. IMHO (Tom Sachs Charge is now 3-20-22 for sale on ebay for $7500! Crazy...)
Looked to see if there were any of these left at the Tom Sachs store website. Looks like he is an artist not a researcher, scientist or engineer. I think his artist studio is called Rocket Factory. I live close to the Space Coast in Florida so I have some interest in NASA. Most items on the Tom Sachs website look to be limited edition and sold out like the Leatherman. I saw one video of a guy working on his tractor - I think - with this multitool. Looks like Tom Sachs combined elements of the SAK with Leatherman multitools. I thought the tweezers might be one of your favorite tools? I would much rather have a multitool specifically designed for scientists and engineers that work in the space program than the tool you reviewed. I hope you don't feel beholden to whoever sent you this NASA multitool.
I get it. The fact that they used NASA to sell this product doesn’t sit right with a lot of people, that’s a perfectly valid opinion and one I happen to agree with. This is why I commented that it is a love/hate relationship for this tool in the EDC community. I personally could care less about Tom Sachs. My interest in this tool was strictly for the different scale tools Leatherman was able to add to this tool without modifying the frame. I have no idea to what extent Tom Sachs influenced the design of this tool, maybe not at all, who knows. Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on a multi tool that would be designed for engineers and scientists working in the space program? I wouldn’t even know where to begin frankly.
Like the Mr Crunch, I hate it because I hate limited run collector's items. Despise them. This should be a standard production tool. A Rebar or ST300 with scale tools would be amazing
I'd love to see them do a version of this, but with the Surge. An s30v blade, and all the tools that come in the scales. But instead, make one of the scale tools a microbit driver that slides out.
Phenomenal additions, a super interesting and useful tool, but I notice the ability to adjust the tool with a safety torx bit isn’t an option 😬 that’s a huge deal breaker haha. I would probably pay a whole lot of money to get a tool like that if I could still adjust the tightness of the inner tools and outer blades/saw/file
I've seen snap on ratchets that are like that as well, I was told they are used in specialty industries like space. They have no removable screws for the cover to rebuild it. Wonder why?
It's a really nice edition but i just don't get why Leatherman created a super special limited based on an artist that wish he was an astronaut... don't have anything against the guy but... why... i read a bit on Tom S. And well... he's reeally just an artist.... don't know what the hype is all about ! Hope thi that they will include those nice new addtions to the next gens Waves and Charges !
And not even one that has high crafting skills... His Merchandise is just... crude... his art is crude... He claims its the "Human Touch" but then he Brands his stuff with NASA who are the foremost leaders in Machine made components and Computer engineering... so nothing handmade at all but the Pinnacle of what Human enginuity brought to us...
As a NASA concept tool it honestly sucks! There's nothing space about it. Wood saw... really!? The engraving on the blade is crude and just ugly, also it's haphazardly placed. Feels like a random customized Charge with white plastic stuck to the sides.
@@AYellowPepper 50 went for public sale (25 through ssense, 25 though TS online store). Serial numbers 1-50, like you said were held for gifts. Serial numbers below 50 pop up every now and then on the secondary.
Pssshh.. I can make a better Charge + variant than Tom Sachs. That said, I have said it before and I will say it again. All the additions that Leatherman "made" for this tool are cheap add-ons. Hand made bead? A kid can make that in art class. The pocket clip? Free series. You can buy a titanium version and add it to your Charge +. Lanyard? Yeah. I have lots of red paracord. That tool has the Wave + serrated blade. Which is a downgrade from the Charge + currently sold. Add tweezers, the pen, toothpick, and pin to another charge. Bam! Already superior to the Sachs and for much less. Ahh... forgetting the Dremel hand engraved S30v blade. In summary the tool is basically a parts bin special slapped together from Leatherman. The sheath is even the lowest quality style. Very much like what they were selling with Rebars. The fact some dude can call himself an artist, and have people shell out $1000 for this tool is astounding. I really think that all accessories on the Sachs should be added to all future standard Charge + models. It's all been engineered and sorted out for the 100 sprint run. So you can't argue the preliminary problem solving hasn't been done. Most of these tools appear to be reverse engineered from Swiss card tools. For that money I would like to see better quality materials used. Better metals and slightly better attention to detail such as polishing, copper plating, stone washing, or black oxide touches as well as laser engraved touches. Maybe throw in some Timascus or Damascus upgrades.
Check "Slava W" channel. It is in Russian language, but it is possible to understand even without sound. This guy makes awesome mods of Leatherman multitools.
