Sir Richard Starkey (b.1940), known professionally as Ringo Starr, is an English musician, singer, songwriter and actor who gained worldwide fame as the drummer for the Beatles. He occasionally sang lead vocals with the group, usually for one song on each album, including "Yellow Submarine", "With a Little Help from My Friends" and their cover of "Act Naturally". He also wrote and sang the Beatles' songs "Don't Pass Me By" and "Octopus's Garden", and is credited as a co-writer of others. After the band's break-up in 1970, he released several successful singles including the US top-ten hit "It Don't Come Easy", and number ones "Photograph" and "You're Sixteen". His most successful UK single was "Back Off Boogaloo", which peaked at number two. He achieved commercial and critical success with his 1973 album Ringo, which was a top-ten release in both the UK and the US.
Barbara Bach, Lady Starkey (b. 1947) is an American actress and model, best known for her role as the Bond girl Anya Amasova in The Spy Who Loved Me. She is married to Beatles drummer Ringo Starr.
Tom Snyder (1936 - 2007) was an American pioneering television personality and figure in broadcast journalism that brought a no-nonsense attitude to broadcast television news. He was best known for his late-night talk shows Tomorrow (NBC) and The Late Late Show with Tom Snyder (CBS). His engaging style, combined with his irascible attitude, made him one of the best-known journalists of his time, back when having a nationally televised and thought-provoking late-night talk show meant something. It was a different time in television, as the news was delivered as information with no spin or opinion. He marked the end of an era.

Ringo looked good here and healthy. He’s still alive at 83 and playing shows so he must be healthy. He’s amazing! He had to have part of intestines removed because of illness probably caused by excessive drinking. He drank too much back then. But he recovered his health and I heard him say he doesn’t eat sugar at all. He was offered a cookie on a TV show cooking segment and he politely said he doesn’t eat sugar any more. The lady looked at him like he was crazy! But he’s had the last laugh because he cleaned up his diet and stopped drinking and he’s still living. He saved himself. I don’t know if he still smokes. Probably not. God Bless Ringo! He was always charming and witty just like all the Beatles were. They were always laughing and joking around. Which is why they are great entertainers and beloved to this day! Thank you Ringo for playing your part. He never overshadowed the music. He supported the songs first. He fit the Beatles perfectly! 😊

Ringo had no pretensions to profundity. In his own way he was the smartest Beatle.

Ringo was and still is the greatest rock and roll drummer of them all. His performance on John's Plastic Ono Band was genius. The reason was his "feel". He wasn't a virtuoso like Baker or Bonham, he was just the best.

This might be the most unguarded, raw, and borderline forlorn I've seen Ringo in an interview setting. Usually, in interviews, he plays the role of the upbeat and cheery Scouse clown who is ever grateful to be in the company of the "cool kids." Here, he instead betrays both a sense of grounded inner weariness and a serious confidence in his (oft-cruelly maligned) worth as a musician. He is correct in saying that he is a "great rock n' roll drummer." His was truly an inimitable and understated talent, as essential to the Beatles' success as the other three's indelible contributions, lyrical and musical. I am glad he, at last, is beginning to receive the accolades and praise he so rightly deserves as the driving force of the Fab Four.

How I miss these times in our history. Everything was a bit simpler, although we always had a war somewhere, as we do now. But in those days things were in front of you. One of your buddies could actually play guitar and you could make believe you'd be in a band with him. You could change the spark plugs on your car without removing 1/2 the engine. You could go to a dance club, and most people there were young and not hooked up and most not divorced. You wanted to go to college and earn a degree, good. You want to be a mechanic or electrician...good. You want to work yourself up to management at Sears...good. Save $10k, buy a home, have kids and live the American Dream. Everything just seems to suck now.

Ringo's tacky comment, at 18:05, that he would commit domestic battery if Barbara dared call him by his stage name makes for a palpable moment of cringe in the interview - especially knowing this roughly dates to a very dark period for him when, in a handful of alcohol-induced rages, he seriously beat on Barbara. Thank God he later achieved sobriety and now purportedly enjoys a happy and content personal life free of that demon booze.
