I always come to a Charlie Rose interview for the guest, never for Rose himself, and usually fail to endure because of Rose himself, never the guest. I cannot think of another interviewer who enjoyed so much success while remaining so thoroughly dense.
Hi this is a great interview! It's like they are dancing tango, though the journalist sometimes loose the lead and actually it's Sir Tom who is a true dancer - he knows how to round off the occasional clumsiness of his partner. But they make a lovely couple anyway. Could you please tell who is the journalist?
Many distinctions made here including the relevant differences between the informal off-camera conversations Stoppard and Rose have where, because they know each other well enough that there's a shorthand understanding that doesn't require a thought's completion versus the obviously greater effort needed to "play" to the larger unseen audience.
