From Tom T. Hall's LP "Country Is", "Forget It" was never released as a single, but was featured on the "B" side of his hit single, "That Song Is Driving Me Crazy", which went to the #2 position on the Billboard Hot 100 Country charts in 1974. Complete lyrics below.
Vocals: Tom T. Hall
Words & Music: Tom T. Hall and Roy Allen Pace
Original Album: Country Is (Mercury Records - 1974)
Legal Copyright Owner: Universal Music Group - Nashville
Lyrics:
I gave myself some good advice, forget it
It's gonna drive me crazy if I let it
I forgot the line as soon as I had said it
But it's good advice for you and me forget it
Another day another place it's another year
We crossed too many bridges that brought us here
We both had too much fun to now regret it
It's good advice for you and me forget it
A man has mornings when he thinks he'll find it
Oh it's just a little mountain I can climb it
So if some night your phone should ring just let it
It's good advice for you and me forget it
Another day another place it's another year
We crossed too many bridges that brought us here
We both had too much fun to now regret it
It's good advice for you and me forget it

I love the photos of an older, silver-haired Tom T accompanying this song, especially those with his fellow Country Music HOF inductees, including the gorgeous at any age, Emmy Lou Harris. Country music royalty that year!

My all time favorite musician....known for brilliant songwriting, arguably the best ever, but his arrangements, like 'Forget It' are simply amazing...

I totally agree with you! "Forget It" is what I might call a song in a million. Almost impossible to write sensibly, yet when it comes out, and you first hear it, it simply blows your mind away, especially if you have ever experienced any of the points Tom T is singing about. As you say, "Forget It" IS SIMPLY AMAZING!

I had this on an 8 track back in the 80's. I lost the tape somehow. So good to hear it again.

I first came across Tom T's music when I started working offshore in the North Sea oil patch in the 1970s. The first 'tape' I ever heard was "Soldier Of Fortune" - it was cassettes in those days. I had never, *ever* heard such great music in my life before. I actually bought that cassette from the American crew member who had brought it offshore because I just simply wanted to listen to the whole cassette/album again and again. I think that I have now collected every single piece of music Tom T. Hall has ever produced and have copied all of my purchases into a collection of almost 2GBs of mp3 files. I do really thank the guy who first brought Tom T to my attention. Although the Storyteller is now so sadly gone, he holds my attention day in, day out. Good times, bad times. Happy times, sad times. The Storyteller is there every step of the way of my life.

@@henrytree I've always loved his music, but it's hard for me to listen to his music anymore. T didn't just die, he committed suicide! I wasn't raised to understand that. What I was taught could be wrong, but I was taught if you committ suicide you go to hell. There's a sad history of suicide in country music. Faron Young felt forgotten. Mindy McCready killed her dog first. Naomi Judd, Gary Stewart...the list goes on. Maybe T felt the unbelievable disrespect of Todd Snider billing himself as The Storyteller, even releasing 2 live cds called The Storyteller and The Return of The Storyteller.

This is a song that sounds like it came very easy for T, very coherent and articulate with rhymes with in the lines and rhymes with other lines, and it makes a statement. It's as if the ink turns to silver and then gold...

Thank you, Steven Spolar, for printing the full lyrics of one of the best of the "Storyteller's" songs. There are *so many* individual lines in that song which make it absolutely impossible to "Forget It". I personally class the words of "Forget It", along with another of Tom T's fascinating offerings, namely: "Oh, What A Song!" I am sure that you will know it, and both of these songs together hit my heart and soul every time I hear them. (Sometimes they also bring tears ... ) Thanks again for your efforts, they are very much appreciated.
