I remember the first time I heard this song was on the way to the state track meet my senior year of high school in 1995! One of the coaches cranked up the classic country station on the bus!
This was my song for my baby. I returned from Philly because I loved so much. But she died of a heroin overdose. I miss her so much much. She was so gorgeous
Tom T’s nickname “The Storyteller” was a great one but I think his overall gift as a musician as well as poet, and his beautiful, deeply moving singing voice, are often overlooked. As a lyricist/poet, he didn’t just tell great stories, he sometimes achieved an almost impossible compression of life experience into a handful of words. “My mother is dead/ She had long black hair/ Once she promised me a teddy bear”. (Strawberry Farms)
Great version of The Rolling Stones Classic! Just saw the Stones and man they are still incredible!! Check their 1968 live version on RU-vid on their Rock n Roll Circus show they did!
We could use more like ole Tom T. nowadays. He made me look forward to listening to the radio back in the day but now you can’t even tell what they are saying, not that I ever listen to the junk.
