I don’t know which rule you’re thinking about.... but oh yeah. There are several rules that are easy to miss or get wrong. Holy cow, this game is such a beast.

My first demo game was still a bit of a disaster. Reset and done it again. Still made one or two small mistakes. It's not as easy playing solo, another set of eyes would help 👀

Oh my gosh. It’s a BLAST! I’m working hard to keep the channel diverse in the types of games I record and upload... so I had to force myself to take the week off of Gloomhaven.... but you’d better believe this is how I’m spending my Monday off! Just the first scenario alone was TONS of fun. It seriously had my emotions running all over the place. And I have been thinking about that session all week....

Absolutely! They're just considered to be more advanced..... and where I was already overwhelmed, I decided to not even look at them until I had played a little bit...

This is NOT the first time I've heard myself compared to Jeff Goldblum! I definitely don't hear it -- but you are definitely not the first person to point that out. There must be some truth there!

GREAT question! That is exactly how I did it originally. I had them stuffed on the side of all of the other boxes.... but I was finding it was putting a little more stress on the edges of the box than I wanted. So, what I’ve done instead, since I’m only playing 2 of the 6 unlocked characters, is I have the 4 unlocked boxes pulled out and on a shelf. But your idea will work too! Things just get a little “puffy.”

Seems like your missing the "concentric circles" class box, as you have the miniature for it. Should not be hard to replace by contacting the manufacturer. Let's just hope you don't unlock it before you can replace it!

Good point! Thankfully, it takes a LONG time to record and edit and upload one scenario..... so I’m thinking it’ll take me 1-2 weeks per scenario. I doubt I’m unlocking anything anytime soon. But seriously thanks so much for the heads up. I’ll email them today!

Great question! Unfortunately I did not back Frosthaven... a couple of reasons for that.... (1) I will never be able to finish Gloomhaven. I mean, I can pretend it’ll happen, but the reality is that chances of finishing Gloomhaven is pretty low. (2) If I DO finish Gloomhaven, I imagine it’ll be at a time when Frosthaven will be widely available. So, I don’t currently have Frosthaven video plans... sorry! But I do plan on picking back up on Gloomhaven sometime in August.

Well, you can play it solo in the same way that I am playing on this channel: Control two characters at once. The normal rulebook even has a way to scale for that. But as far as I know, the only solo scenarios (one character) are in that solo scenario book. BUT, even with those, those scenarios need to be “unlocked” - your character has to reach a certain “level” and I think another character needs to be retired....? So I haven’t even started playing those scenarios yet because they aren’t unlocked to me yet.

Right?!? I mean...... I’m really getting the hang of it now, but still make mistakes from time to time. Keep those Klingon subtitles turned on!!!!

I’m so glad! And, a word of unsolicited advice.... read the rules (obviously) but realize that there is a lot - and chances are your first few playthroughs will NOT be perfect. Maybe not even close. But don’t forget that the game is meant to be fun! So have fun. Play the first scenario or two, then go back through the rules again and adjust as needed. (I read the rules THREE times and still got a lot of stuff wrong. Something I’m reminded about daily 😂) But my point is: enjoy the ride. It’s a very fun game! And has gotten more fun with each play. I’m psyched to hear how it goes for you, and wish you the best of luck as you begin your adventure!

Now, Gloomhaven availability: it’s such a quick moving thing, due to the popularity of the game. I have no clue how available it is NOW. My best recommendation is to hop in google and start calling your local game stores. I don’t know what online availability looks like. I kickstarted it, so I haven’t really had to worry about that. I’ll scope a few online places and let you know if I find anything....

Tom Teaches It’s be neat if the game could be adapted to play over Skype or something. The mechanics also beg for a video game version (the whole thing reminds me of a cross between Final Fantasy Tactics and Darkest Dungeon)

It's covered in the start of the Scenario book, which also gives suggested loadouts so that's arguably the best time to pick it up anyway.

Great point! I’ve been avoiding the scenario book because I feel like the covers are so thin that I’m worried that I’ll tear it just by picking it up. So I’ve had my nose in the app instead.

Which things? The wooden stuff? I got that from the broken token website. And yes, inventory and setup and take down is a NIGHTMARE without SOME kind of organization..... to me, the investment is so worth it.

You can get either Broken Token or Daedalus

Mine is broken token. Daedalus is usually distinguishable by the wood being stained a darker color.

I almost got the daedalus, but decided to go with the broken token cuz I liked the idea of having separate trays for all little tokens opposed to more of a community tray and I liked the active character trays. I'm sure both are great...I like the dark stain and some of the details they put into into.... but I'm all about functionality

Oh crap..... it's been SO long..... Rather than guessing, did you check out the second video in the series? I imagine I would address that right there near the beginning.... (don't quote me). (I know, I'm so dang slow to respond.... work has been kicking my butt and I just haven't been able to do anything with RU-vid lately)

You'll have to make the trip one time! Pop into New Zealand too if you can afford to. It's only 14 hours from LA but it's just so expensive. If I lived in North America I'd be heading to different parts of Canada all the time. The sun in Australia can be absolutely brutal in Summer and I often wear T-Shirts throughout our Winters, so the images I've seen of Canada and the northern states of USA look like heaven to me.

No, I got that storage stuff from the broken token. I thought I had mentioned that, but I may not have done so clearly enough. As time goes on in the series you’ll see I change things up a little, and so add some homemade solutions as well.

You won’t have to wait too long :-) My goal is to get the first scenario uploaded tonight, and I play with two characters.... TONS of interaction and cooperation needed.... but I am LOVING it....

It works very well actualy, the game is a bit harder with only two but not much and the systems hold up pretty well even on small parties.

My son is only 3, but I grew up playing Hero Quest and loved playing it with my family. I'm going to have to wait a few years until he's old enough to play, but I'm hoping once he's 6 or so, he might be ready.

Oh, I’m totally still filming. I film about once every 6 weeks. I’ve made 38 (?) Gloomhaven videos at this point.... but I’m way glad you are getting to play and that the videos help! That is the best thing to hear.

That is such a good question! I would love to know the answer to that too.... OR, even if they’re playing the game, how many beautifully painted minis won’t even come into play because their characters don’t end up in the story?

Hahahahaha!!! Dude. I totally totally get it.... I actually think there are some pretty cool ways to get this thing organized without the expensive organizers. In fact, after a few things I’ve seen I half-way regret forking our the money for the organizer I have.... 🤦‍♂️ for example, some paper cd selves are PERFECT for organizing the monsters (thats how I have them now). I think some Plano boxes can organize the terrain tiles pretty nicely. Things like this. It’s definitely worth looking into before buying an organizer....

It felt like a small sacrifice to keep things so well-organized. Though now, nearly two-years later, I do think there are better and cheaper options out there. But at the time it was the best one I could find...

Tom Teaches I just bought the game. What organizers do you recommend?

That is such a great question, and such a hard one to answer. I haven't looked into inserts for this game since the game was pretty new (like, almost two years ago) so I don't know what's available now. When I was looking there were 3 inserts available, all of them had things I liked and didn't like. There are a few good forums on BGG that compare and contrast the ones that are available. I ended up going with the broken token insert, but as the series goes along you find me modifying it a few different times... So while I'm happy with my purchase, I did change some things here and there. The main thing I changed was that I hated the monster boxes (which is funny because that was my biggest draw). So, if you go visit my website (tomteachesgames.com) you can two different things I've done to fix that. If I were to do it all again I might stick with my solution for monster boxes, then find some Plano boxes for everything else...... It's just cheaper and then you can figure out what works best for you....

I didn't end up buying inserts. Plano boxes and a mashup of different ideas I found throughout the internet works pretty well. I'd love an insert but I dont think they are really worth the money at the end of the day.
