The Dodgers also don't have any "Great Pitcher's." And there's no way of knowing that Ohtani will be the same Pitcher when he comes back from his second Tommy John Surgery! So the odds are high that the Dodgers will be paying Ohtani $700 million dollars to be a DH! But I don't think that they care, because the Dodgers are owned by multiple billionaires!

He's always thinking about the development of baseball. And with this contract, he raises questions about the inconsistency of the current "CBT". He does not ask for deferred interest and is not even afraid of future inflation. And after 10 years, he will use huge money he earns, not for himself, but for someone else. For the development of baseball, which he loves. For example, if he donates some ballparks for baseball kids, that's exactly the American dream.
@Teremei
@Teremei 6 месяцев назад
He doesn't really think about baseball at all. What he did is make a super team even more powerful. What do you think this does to the small market teams in terms of competitive balance. I think if he did this for a small market team it would have been commendable. But what he did is go to a super team, as a way to get an easy ring. It makes him look selfish and like a coward.
@wehttam6988
@wehttam6988 6 месяцев назад
@@TeremeiSure, deferring money so your team can win AND get MORE players is Selfish. Bro you are delusional/mad that another team didn’t get Ohtani. If he went to a small team it would of been worse. The small market teams wouldn’t be able to afford it regardless of deferment. Look at the Angels, on his PREVIOUS contract they couldn’t get any other good players. Now just imagine if they had $700 million on the books, now or later, it puts them in more of a hole. Being that it’s thee LA market he was able to defer his pay, the endorsements would be enough for him off the field. Hence why he went to LA even though San Francisco offered him the same. Just as this video said, he was willing to play for FREE if the off field stuff was right. What other star is willing to do that?

The deferred payment contract also benefits the Dodgers. You can avoid luxury taxes and use your funds to strengthen your team. I think Ohtani is sending a message to the Dodgers that he wants them to add good pitchers to compensate for the fact that he won't be able to pitch next year in order for the Dodgers to aim for a world championship. Over the next 10 years, as advertising fees, broadcast rights, goods, etc. from around the world, including Japan, increase, it will be possible to use the money saved to give back to Otani. Currently, it is estimated that advance payback will be possible in 6 to 7 years.

@Dodgers-sw2uk
@Dodgers-sw2uk 6 месяцев назад
If the Dodgers put 44 million a year in a savings fund it will be worth 68 million when they give it to Ohtani in a decade. Which is why the value of the deal counts at 46 million against the luxury tax (today), the 44 mill plus the 2 mill, and not 70 million. If he was collecting the interest for himself then it would be different. So the answer is no, it will not count in a decade and the Dodgers will just put 44 mill a side at the end of every year

The Dodgers have an excellent scouting department. They draft and develop as well as anybody. The Dodgers lose superstars all the time. How are they able to overcome those losses? They call up prospects without desperately rushing them or they trade them for good players. If you look at Friedmans timeline since becoming GM, he’s actually been reluctant to give out money irresponsibly. There’s always a plan. Machado, Bellinger, BOTH Turners, Seaver, Scherzer, Jansen…. Still been to the playoffs every year. You can’t lose all those star players and fix it by simply throwing money at it. It far more sophisticated than you make it out to be. Is ohtani married? I only ask because this level of naivety it comes with a price. I mean without naming names, let's just hope he doesn't hit his wife someday. Because then that 15 million per year that he gets from marketing will go away quickly Sorry, I have to edit here. What I'm getting at is that if ohtani goes south, there are many reasons why this deal will go south for the Dodgers as well.

He is. He is married to baseball .. I think after he wins a World Series ring, I have a feeling he will find a wife and make kids.. he’s just on a mission right now for the championship ring

A sickening contract to an injury prone player with already two TJ surgeries. Shaking my head. Insanity pure insanity.

I wish you could’ve been in the room to let the Dodgers brass know these things. There’s no way they gave him a physical or did any research on the injuries and long term effects. I doubt they had the doctors you do to refer. Man. Can you give them a call?

Full Time DH in 2025 3 strikes and your out and Ohtani has 2 surgeries on his weak arm Sad but this keeps Dodgers out of World Series for next 10 years

Have you not been listening?? SMH. Even if Ohtani won’t pitch (and I think he will) they’ll have extra $24M to get other players to join and help Dodgers.

Othani bats left-handed and pitches right-handed. His left arm is not surgically repaired. He kept on hitting.The amount of hate, jealousy, and cynicism is as unbelievable as Ohanti's generous gesture.

??? you got your dates wrong. He can't pitch next year (2024) but who said he won't be back after that? In my opinion tho, Ohtani should consider the option of relief/closer instead of risking ending his pitching career early as this will likely be the last chance as starter

But from a business side it’s a good deal for the Dodgers. Higher tv ratings and increased ticket sales. And his deferring salary means the Dodgers can spend money on other players.

As a Mets fan, I didn't want deGrom due to his arm issues and I'm glad my team stayed away from this guy. The Dodgers are going to be screwed in the future!

Nope. The Dodgers scout and develop as well as anyone. 11 consecutive playoff runs. They lose stars all the time and stay relevant. Next.

This is horrible for the integrity of baseball. It's cheating plain and simple!
