I had the luck to see him live back 1999, he was a great story teller during the live show. I will never forget. He is everything you can think of and more.
That’s because he’s an open-hearted, clear-minded observer, devoid of negative judgement! I not only adore Tom Waits, I want to be Tom Waits! Alas,,there’s only one of him, and I haven’t done enough letting go of b.s. to come anywhere near being that clear! What a role model to aspire to!
decades ago I found out that Tom had quit drinking and it was a positive message for me in recovery. I figured if he could do it after the kind of life he'd been leading, I could at least give it another try.
Tom is such an original. He’s a brilliant songwriter, performer, actor, and has such comedic timing. He should get the Kennedy Center Honors award. I’ve proposed him for that but they just sent me a courteous blow-off. Maybe if a few thousand others did the same…
Just now discovering he is fucking HILARIOUS at dry humor. Every talk show appearance is wildly funny. "Now this next horse just ain't with it yet" LMAO
yes, watched an interview with him on YT from those days which aired on Australian TV. It was a nightmare. The interviewer didnt help, but neither did Tom!
What untapped comedic talent Tom has. Amazing. He isn’t even trying, just naturally creating funny entertainment and brought Dave along. Awesome stuff.
nateisbaked Can't really help it, pretty much everyone that knows Tom for that only care about that sadly. Like copying someone else is somehow deserving of admiration. Oh yeah and that idiot Heath is dead because of drugs and Tom is still alive. At least originality wins this time.
I often wonder if Tom Waits got the name for this album from Elvis Presley. In a famous studio moment at Sun decades ago, Elvis is heard saying to the group -- who had to do a retake of a song and use more energy -- Presley is heard saying: "let's get real gone for a change...." (Just a thought, since Waits, has said Presley was always one of his influences).
Waits -"The horse in the next stall had written a script" Letterman - "Oh now, cut that out" Ha! He knew what Tom was gonna say next from rehearsals, I wish I did.
Have you spent a few days with Tom Waits? Do you know him well enough to determine what he's actually like? Probably not, so how the heck do you know what "normal" is?
Very sad that a misunderstood, dreadful vice is made fun of. Possessed by horses who are kept in stables all day and are so bored out their minds that they chew on their doors out of sheer frustration. It does release endorphins, so is addictive and is generally incurable. Because of the air being sucked into the stomach, it can lead to colic and death. look up crib biting and wind sucking, if you care.
I was around horses growing up. They were in pastures all day, and only kept in stalls at night. They rarely chewed on the stalls, but they loved the cedar fence posts. Wouldn't touch the fir fence rails, but loved the cedar posts. I asked the owner why they chewed on the cedar and she said it was an indication of lacking a mineral, and if I saw them doing it, to tell her, so she could supplement their feed.
