Jersey Girl is a Tom Waits song covered by Springsteen. In fact i believe they played it together live. Waits and Springsteen are both seen onstage playing in the ROY ORBISON BLACK AND WHITE concert video. Waits is a national treasure.
Two songs by Tom Waits The piano is drinking add Potter's field these two songs are my favorite I saw Tom Waits in concert in the 1970s he was drunk off his butt while he was singing now I believe he's in recovery from alcoholism. I watched interview while back about it
From Tom's 1983 Swordfishtrombones, this was one of best periods of his career where he started experimenting with strange sounds and unusual instrumentation. This song is about a strange hard working neighborhood. With it's strange dream like images, it shows it's hardships and it's moments of connection and joy. Considered a classic it is one of his best songs. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Bennett. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Brilliant - I'd love to see your reaction to two other of Tom Waits' songs - 'On the Nickel' which is so tender and heartbreaking, and 'Down there by the train' which is just amazing.
Tom Waits made a 1977 appearance on Martin Mull's "Fernwood Tonight" show, which was a spoof of shows like the "Tonight Show". It was absolutely hilarious, and he performed "The Piano Has Been Drinking". There are videos of it on RU-vid.
@@elysehfm8797 I had to go back to see them. There's three videos and the one I watched first had comments blocked. But now I know what you're talking about 😀
@@ptournas, just to be clear, I watched the shorter one with comments (obviously). I don't know how they don't recognize Martin Mull and Fred Willard, but WOW. To think that Tom Waits isn't humorous is BIZARRE. So weirdly self righteous.
@@elysehfm8797 Yeah, there was some funny stuff in the comments, people who seemed to think that this was a legit talk show and Tom was putting one over on Martin and Fred, not realizing that the show was a parody and the comment writer was actually the who got the wool pulled over their eyes. Kind of a testament to how great the show really was!
Thank you so much for this, 😓, I've learned slow waltz to dance to this, forced as 13 yrs ol to go to dancinschool, can I say that, pardon me for bad English, what a beautiful song, watch the vid, greetings from Germany, 😊
My friend... I ask you, I'm begging 😊 please listen to the "Night hawks for dinner " . If not for reaction at least to yourself . Start from the overture to "Eggs and sausage ". It's live at a launge. (Silver... something louge) it's hilarious and wonderful jazzy bluesy musicians. Take care ✌
For a gospel feel try listening to "take care of all of my children" of the brawlers bawlers and bastards album, . Shore leave is another great song from swordfishtrombones.
Tom Waits has written and recorded any number of gospel tunes. Jesus is gonna be here for one and Down in the hole, is another. Then there is always Chocolate Jesus.
Basically Springsteen stole Tom Waits style of voice when he recorded his version of Tom Waits' "Jersey Girl". Tom is far more talented than Springsteen could ever hope to be.
