@@mabul513 Real Heaven includes going out on the lash with Tom, climbing onto the wagon with Tom, falling off the wagon with Tom, smoking a reefer with Tom, and pateintely waiting for Keith Richards to die, so he can join in with you and Tom.
Teaching this song to my kids. And they're both taking piano. So, one day they can get on stage and say "my dad taught me this song when I was young...that's a lie". And they'll be lying.
'Smoke' is more wonderful than quirky, IMHO. If you want quirky I recommend the sequel, 'Blue in the Face'. Madonna makes an appearance but, not even she can spoil it! If you don't like wonderful, you can watch the ending of the film (this song) here on YT. Just look out for the black and white photo of the blind, black lady - it's lovely.
Amazing how quickly people get this. Start singing it in a pub from John O Groats to Gretna Gateway, someone will know it. The pub will soon join in. Then you start allocating chorus and rhythm parts. Keep the Guinness drinkers off percussion.
Well said Derek & Fan Made........... I manage Pubs here in Queensland, Australia & DAMN............. The CRAP i'm forced to dish out to the ears of the punters :/
Tom Waits is the sound we're all looking for when nothing else works. The guy is a lyrical genius and naturally hilarious when he speaks; thank God for people like him to keep MUSIC lovers smiling
+angels4fordy I agree Tom's a great poet, don't know who Townes van zandt is. Have to say there's another brilliant poet of the 20th century - Leonard Cohen.
“Innocent When You Dream” forma parte del álbum “Franks Wild Years”, publicado en 1987.
Tom, one of your songs will be play on my funeral!!!!! Thanks for everything!! My life changed since I have heard in my car ,,Kentucky Avenue,, years ago...I stopped the car and I cried , listening this song again and again...And nothing changed , you are in my home every day..
And it so does pull on them in such strange ways producing surreal swirls of emotions, with a twist of nostalgia, often conjuring both laughter and tears. Words shall ultimately fail me.
This is the man/voice I fell in love with years years years ago...the first time I heard you my "Martha" I knew I was so in love with you that never could that place in my soul be replaced by anyone. Thank you Tom for all the love you put out for us Truly Thank you as I bow down to you.
Das Lied hab ich geschrieben ... that's a lie .... ich weiß nicht wie oft ich mir das angehört habe eines der besten Tom Waits Lieder überhaupt .... habe das live in Paris gesehen things u wouldn't miss
I think I am the only female who likes/loves Tom Waits music. I have several albums/cds of his music. Love old Tom!! Thanks for uploading this.. Wish I knew how to do this business of uploading to RU-vid. Great Vid!!!!!
There are many many hundreds of thousands of females that love Tom. You're not alone, Jeanette. There's his wife, Kathleen Brennan, for a start. Not only does she love his music, she also helps write some of his best stuff.
Intensidade na composição e interpretação, delicadeza de sentimentos e essa voz inigualável, regada a muita emoção, são suas marcas. Um cara humano, um músico incomparável!
a truly interesting human being, he tells stories like only our ancestors had the pleasure of experiencing. I'm glad he's been generous with his talent.
Thank you Alison for sharing this...I will need to view and listen to this time and time again..is my first time to hear this song, and it seems very intense..thank you so much my sweet friend, kisses
Well, some people come here because maybe they're curious to see what this guy is about because they've heard his name bantered around. People check it out and maybe give an opinion because nobody's got a monopoly on opinions, right? Maybe what you "don't understand" is logic -- One has to listen to the music first BEFORE forming an opinion about it. I just heard this song for the first time. I think it's a joke.
You made no argument as to why this shouldn't be considered music, much less good. You simply made a declarative statement, and when confronted, restated it. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you aren't a troll, so I ask: what is it about the song in question that doesn't appeal to you? I certainly wouldn't expect everyone to like it, don't get me wrong; Tom Waits is something of an acquired taste. There's a world of difference between what he does and, say, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.
