Nearly four decades before he won the Nobel Prize in Literature, Swedish poet Tomas Tranströmer visited The Poetry Center at San Francisco State, March 4, 1974, to read from his poems (as translated variously by May Swenson, Robert Bly, and Samuel Charters, with a few poems read as well in the original Swedish) and to talk with the audience. In the house for his reading (and briefly on camera) are San Francisco poets Michael Palmer, Robert Duncan, and Kathleen Fraser, who provides the introduction, with George Oppen remarked as being in attendance as well.
