It’s the end of Augsut and our tomato seedlings are just about ready to be planted in the ground for a fall and winter crop of tomatoes in Central Florida. Let’s build a trellis out of bamboo for our tomato plants to grow up.
We’re using green bamboo from our garden. If you have dried and cured bamboo, that should hold up well so long as it hasn’t been outdoors for ages and is starting to split. Make sure you cut your poles right above joints in the bamboo so that you don’t create reservoirs to catch and hold water inside.
To secure the bamboo poles together, we’re using a cheap rayon yarn you can find at any hobby store. Though it’s not biodegradable like some garden twine, we can save and reuse it season by season. Any yarn or twine you find that can hold up in the rain should be fine to use.
We’ll keep an eye on the comments if you have any questions. Let us know how your tomato journey is going!
