I always liked it. Thought it was overrated when I first played it over 20 years ago (because I was rubbish at it!). But then I got better at it, and started to love it - massive levels, fun exploration, puzzles make you think, atmosphere soundtrack, memorable characters, it ended up being a favourite for many years. I might buy the recent remaster release if they ever make a physical copy of it!

I didn’t do too bad at it, but I never completed it from what I recall. I’m sure there will be a physical release at some point if it’s popular enough. Which I have no doubt it will be.

On the PlayStation? Yes On the Sega? No. Very underrated. Best controls without analog possible, besides Super Mario 64 DS anyway.

The Saturn controller was excellent to be fair. The Mk2 controller is my all time favourite.

I can guess we loved the concept and elements of the game much more than its actual gameplay, for reasons you have already highlighted. I have yet to play it which is a shame. Played only from III and up. I can say it suffers from the plague of most games back in time: created by adults, couldn't be played and finished by kids.

Yes there were certain “assets” that helped in sales. And you’re right, I thought that about a lot of games, especially things like ghouls n ghosts, which kids would have loved, but probably sat crying because it was too hard. I still cry now 😭
