Indeed. Some of the levels are pretty neat. And it was great to give the Iris a proper backstory, also explaining all the bitterness between Lara and Werner.
Oh no, it's not! Lara is an ico in the videogame industry thanks to these games, and back in the 2000's this game was in all the gaming Magazines and people talked lots about it. Good memories
What does she mean by “Don’t let me hold you up.”? I'm not a native speaker, I know what that sentence means, but I can't figure out what she means exactly in that specific moment of such a cutscene, saying that to Pierre who just fell down a pit.
@@HOXHOXHOX "Hold you up" has two meanings in English, it can mean to physically pull someone up (which is what she did NOT do for Pierre) and it can also mean to delay someone. Basically she was making a pun around him NOT being, well, held up. :)
The entire Ireland segment 32:21 - 49:50 is what the reboot trilogy attempted to do for *THREE* games (show Lara’s growth and how she became a fearless adventurer) and failed miserably. Here you have Core Design doing it masterfully in a tiny segment of the game.
*Exactly!* Not to mention, young Lara here still had her sass and thrill seeker mindset, she was just lacking in experience and combat skills. Reboot Lara is an In Name Only take on the character.
Yes, indeed! And a skillfully designed story and atmosphere. Crystal Dynamics and SE/Eidos sucks. I hope someday this franchise will die at their hands for good and rebirth in other company.
I love how Larsen and Pierre are always wielding weapons. Like when hes using his hands to emote, he's waving his guns about. Pierre even uses his gun to help Lara up. 😆😆
This will always be my favourite Tomb Raider game because this is the only TR game that I have ended. Almost took me 8 years to complete it because when ever I stuck somewhere in the the game it took me months to figure out. Always have a special place in my heart.
@@andreas3357i I definitely feel like the games scaled up in difficulty with each new release. But maybe that's just because I've managed to beat the first three but not 4 and 5.
@@andreas3357i Yeah, true. At least the Rome section was fine, I don't really remember the U-Boat and got stuck in Ireland. I need to try to beat it again one of these days.
I've always been deep in thought about whether Rome takes place before or after Tomb Raider 1 since you clearly see Larson get savaged and Pierre fall down a very deep pit. Surviving these things seem very unlikely in Chronicles but so does being gunned down by Lara in Tomb Raider 1.
The writer of this game had no idea about TR1 so he didn't knew they died there and killed them again lmao I like to pretend they just were seriously injured
@@ThatPups Yeah I mean Larson just gets tossed away I mean when fighting those gargoyle snakes he's not there so he must of gotten up and ran away and Pierre just broke his leg there 😁
Winston says "And that was the first of many" so Rome is her first adventure. In TR1 Larson has a magazine with Lara and dead Bigfoot on the cover so that would suggest she was already a famous tomb raider in TR1.
@@SvobodovaEva What I'm wondering about is, why does Lara just casually talk to Larson in the hotel in Peru, when previously, both him and Pierre tried to kill her.
I like how the mouths actually move due to different sprites rather than just one still sprite. I didn't think that had ever been done in a game before.
Grim Fandango comes to mind, they even had some kind of automated speech analysis tool, so the mouth shapes matched up to the type of sounds being spoken. Then again the whole thing comes across as pretty stylised, since they're skeletons :)
I'm just replaying it. The last level was the labyrinth, it's a short but well made level, they put pictures on the wall so you don't get lost if you pay attention. This game is a masterpiece, hope for someday when things get better, it will get a remaster or remake.
Very underrated game. The story is actually quite interesting, how it is broken into little sub-stories, and with connecting cutscenes to segue into them. It did always annoy me how Lars and Pierre were reduced to bumbling idiots in this game though. It got a bit too slapstick for my taste, and leaned a tad far into mindless comedy. I'd take any of the previous games in the series over Chronicles any day, especially TR4, but at the very least it was a fun entry with an interesting plot. Definitely can tell the devs weren't fully pouring their hearts into it though. The 'Matrix' style gameplay and presentation was very out of place for a Tomb Raider game, and the stealth sections were so weak. This was obviously an indication of what was to come with Angel of Darkness, where the devs practically did everything they could to make the game the opposite of everything they had done before.
After 20+ years of putting it off, I finally finished this game recently. Not sure if I would call it underrated but it does have its positives. For the most part, I enjoyed the storyline and cutscenes that build the weird lore surrounding the original TR universe. And even if Larson and Pierre are a little too slapstick in here, it's still nice that they showed more of them at all instead of just vague enemies you needed to kill like in the first game. As for the gameplay and style, it's honestly really bad. The platforming and killing is nothing new but aside from Rome, I hated the design of the levels. Nothing's more mind-numbing than running down narrow samey hallways in the submarine or needing to constantly crawl through air vents. There wasn't any of that mystery or fascination of exploring these places like with the previous games. Now to move on to AoD and see how much I can tolerate before dropping it again lol.
New Lara is riddled with unnecessary exposition on why she is a Badass. Old Lara was the Kratos of Female Protagonists who didn't need a tragic backstory. She just killed monsters and looked hot doing it.
if they talk about Laras past adventures how can it be that von Croy is old as fuck and sitting in a wheelchair in the 4. part while being able to walk in egypt while searching for lara?
Theres alot of comments here - I hope this doesn't get lost. I want to thank you on behalf of ALL fans, for finally uploading upscaled cutscenes, widescreen patched goodness. Theres no excuses for 4:3 recordings in this day and age hahaha! "Lara doesnt look any different" 😖😖 yes yes she does Do you happen to still have / be willing to upload your ORIGINAL video rip for this Chronicles video? I'm an avid Japanese learner, but also very OCD about quality, I would adore to overlay your video with the JP audio tracks for my own enjoyment and study purposes- my computer doesnt handle big recordings too well nowadays but I really like the quality of your video. I've used some ripping addons to download the video directly from RU-vid but there seems to be a bitrate loss :(
It seems that in the opening cutscene, the statue of Lara is holding two separate pistols, that I think to be a Luger P08 in her right hand, and an Auto Mag or a Ruger Mark IV in her left hand. Which is just absolutely bizarre especially because they decided to model two entirely different handguns instead of copying and pasting one
This is when everyone else's face got much more realistic and they stuck with Lara's cartoonish features, so she looked a bit like she wandered in from a different reality.
I never noticed till now she magically changed from her dress to classic look instantly lol. They couldn't even be bothered to show how she changed after the opera. Did she have the clothes in a bag? I love tomb raider but these little things are noticeable when you get older.
Can you please put a download like for separate FMVs like you did for The Last Revelation? It would be great to use them in TR Chronicles using Peixoto's tool. Thanks in advance!
Lara is just a common woman, and she doesn't have super strength, she just push giant stone blocks pure for gameplay porpuses, just look at cutscenes and cinematics, she clearly have the strength of a common woma- 18:44
This game was fun to play, but it was also the start of the downfall of the series. It should have never been made and the people on it should have supported on AOD. I also don't like how they made Lara a show off in the Rome opening sequence. She's a badass not a show off. Also, Larson/Pierre died in Both TR1 and TR5. It's like the writers/developers had no idea what had happened in the previous games.
