I hope this game gets remade by someone one day, it had so much potential to be amazing. Story, music, atmosphere. Still think about this game often today and what it should have been.

A.K.2K A.K.2K Murti Shofield put so much passion and work into the story. In one of his interviews he said that only 15% of the original story made it into the game. on the website core-design.com you can find a file that explains things that weren't clear in the game for eg. Karel shapeshifting. you know that scene when Lara is chasing Kurtis and she gets knocked out? and you see one of Bouchard guards shifting? it also contains information for the prequels. what happened to Kurtis ( him and Lara are canon.) www.core-design.com/goodies_tr6_betadocuments.html
Voice, looks, attitude, this version of Lara was SOOO perfect! It sucks the gameplay was horrid, I don't think it was fair for Eidos to rip away the series from Core just for one disappointing game after all the success they had brought them though, they could have completely vindicated themselves with a sequel.

It sucks that the gameplay coupled with the glitches was horrible and so much got cut out, because everything else like the storyline and the characters is SO good. Especially since they introduced a possible love interest that could actually keep up with Lara who's obviously still alive.
I agree with you. I think Kurtis leaving behind his blade so Lara can find it and use it to bring her to him is like sharing his heart with her. And I love the fact Kurtis could be a potential love interest for Lara, since they are in the same caliber. The music in both them meeting for the first time and the ending were so beautifully mesmerizing and with charm. I hope one day this game will be remastered with the whole story given, the bugs glitches and controls fixed and the 2 sequels come afterward. If a new game company can do it with Spyro, a new one can do it with Tomb Raider AoD!
Never could imagine Lara with someone till Trent came along. His design, voice acting, and interactions with Lara couldn't have been better--he was so good for her. The complexity of these two characters and layers of emotion explored through showing versus telling make this one of the most romantic stories ever told.
I liked old Lara more to be honest. Not talking about Angelina Jolie design but the personality. Also, atmosphere in this game was pretty neat and dark. It got me scared when i was a kid(especially the sanitarium stage). Controls were kinda bad though lol. It takes forever to climb a freaking ladder.
Same here, especially those ancient soldier statues that come to life, the mummies with Kurtis and the red ghost guarding the painting, they freaked me the fuck out when I was like 7 or 8

you can see the creative heart and intentions that the developers had with this story. Brimming with genius despite the fact that the final result was very blurry and chaotic
So. much. unfulfilled. potential. Those are the only words that come to mind whenever I I think of TRAOD :( Such a fantastic setup, but just crippled by it’s execution.
@@BLXYDE Apparently all the Senior developers were working on Chronicles and left the unexperienced developers to work on AOD ... after a year when Chronicles was released they moved over to the AOD project and all the inexperienced guys had of worth was character models and a story .. everything else they scrapped and started from scratch, with the only thing left being character models and the story, so essentially lost an entire year of developement, due to an absolute mess of a game they had to essentially start from scratch, and then with the film being released were rushed to get on the market .. that was the demise of Core

With all the issues this game had, to me, this is the one and only Lara Croft. If they ever remake this, it'll have to be in a way that Lara remains the same. Best model of Lara to date and the story was also great.
I adore this game. The only thing negative about it is the awkward controls but apart from that this game was frowned upon waaaaaaay too harshly. And the designers made a book about this but they had to cut so much out due to a rushed deadline.

There is one unofficial novel written by a big fan that covers the story of AOD the way it was originally intended (it was supposed to be a game trilogy). And there is also one official novel that covers the events after TR4 and before AOD, it's called Amulet of Power.
@xWhisperx well to me last revelation and angel of darkness are the best ever in terms of plot. Yes. Technically AoD is the worst ever but the ogs will still root for it because it was so promising.
Best soundtrack, best version of Lara... I will forever preach about this game despite the glitching... Oh, and beating Boaz with Kurtis was such a chore... I remember yelling at the game, "CAN I JUST HAVE LARA BACK FOR GOD'S SAKE?!?!"
That was and still is my favorite, Lara was never so smart and sexy anymore. It should be a trillogy but Eidos has destroyed Core Design. Core Design was a highly skilled team of storytellers and software developers. The sound was uniquely beautiful, this quality was never achieved. Yes I know, it's just my opinion. There was no need to close such a successful business but it was all about the money. Yes, and the team was exhausted after creating five successful titles each year, and that was THE THANK. So we will never see and enjoy the wonderful sequels that began with AOD. I'm so sorry about Core Design and his team from Derby in Derbyshire England. Thanks to the team from Core Design for this great first part and heartly greetings from Germany!
I remember being wowed at how beautiful these graphics were when the game first came out. I was a little girl. I begged my mom to buy it for me, but she never did, so my grandma would let me RENT it from the movie rental store. I couldn't finish the game because it was too difficult. I don't think I got past the Louvre level, but I saw enough of Kurtis Trent to fall hopelessly in love with him. LOL. Very nostalgic to watch now. This is one game that deserves a remake. The mythology in the story (like Brother Obscura and the Lux Veritatis) plus the story itself are some of the most engaging in all of TR.
I agree, the Tomb Raider series isn't the same since it was hand over to Crystal Dynamics. There was something more in the Core Design TR (and it sure wasn't the gameplay).
They should of made a 2nd one and that showed kurtis was still alive. One of my favourite Lara croft games. The new ones are good but nothing like the originals or this one.
It has been a very long time since I last replayed this amazing game. Will always be sad by the fact that it’s incomplete. I wish we got more time with this storyline. Great to relive it thru the cutscenes.
Had they finished this, made some levels better/longer, and made her not control like a tank it’d have been quite solid. The open world Paris level was really forward for the time
Ugh the rushing of the game shows, the cut scene where boaz was killed in the pod was definitely meant to be seen before Lara meets Grant Muller because he talks about she got what she deserved before it even happens.
Might help you out there. It was wallways the creators intention to expand the box story. I think theyve mentioned in the old scripts that it would make a reapperance in the sequel. It goes as followed. Lara is in the Serpent Rouge and picks up the box. (cutscene starts) Lara opens the box and looks inside. A bright light lits up her face. She closes it. (End Cuscene.) Thats... all we know really..
Cheers Yeah I knew they had plans to continue as a trilogy but this one had such bad reviews... they obviously had so many things built up. It's a shame because I wanted to know what happened.. especially with Kurtis Oh well lol
I wish this game wouldve gotten a really nice remake with everything from it's original script with todays technology... this is my favorite Tomb Raider ever, super underrated.
by faaar will always be a favorite tomb raider game of mine such an excellent story, beautifully orchestrated ost, the voice acting was incredible. Her character in this game I believe was the best one. Her spirit, humor, and edge was killer truly shows the shit shes been through. this game had so much damn potential such a shame, I still have the physical copy of my ps2 disc. I think Peter Connelly an Martin Iveson did an excellent job I feel the emotion in the songs, really brings in the atmosphere of this whole game.

Evens the score then. Larq Croft "abandoned" Werner Von Croy in Cambodya and later Werner "abandoned" Lara in Egypt. Neither in cold blood though. I suppose Werner was grateful Lara saved him from the posession of Seth.
I will always believe that the crystal dynamics games are hallucinations that happen during the bright flash at the end. One day she will shake off the illusion and continue to raid.
I very much do believe that Lara Croft will always be the very most self-reliant woman especially ever since she started to be a very self-reliant girl from the reboot series when she was 21 to begin with as always plus I very much do believe that this Tomb Raider game will always be right after the time she was 21 in the reboot series than I destined ever imagine. 👍👍😈😎
I've played most of the tomb raiders game from angel of darkness till shadow of the tomb raider. Cause i love lara croft very......much. she's a precious woman❤❤❤
47:32 This has to be one of the most scariest and unsettling parts of the death! they really did a great job making Eckardt, he's super disconcerting. Also, i still think that this is one ofthe best games of the saga, despite the terrible gameplay it has, which everyone knows about, th atmosphere is just amazing.
Many talk about how this game should have been better gameplay wise and other stuff, but... I think it's just how it should be. I always remember this as the best Tomb Raider ever... still get the chills from many parts.
After all these years watching these cut scenes I wondered why boaz face looked a little odd compared to the other women. Until on closer look I realized she stapled her face back to appear younger, that just confirms how actually old they all are.
i dunno why this game got such a bad rep - its way better than legend and underworld! i liked this lara too, she came over as bad ass - in revelations she was just a total arsehole
This game has really great story... Unfortunately it's not perfect. The main point is the monstrum killing innocent people. But didn't Lara kill more of them? Like those guards in the Louvre, policemen or disco guys. And she only cares about Von Croy. At least she finally saves the world. Gosh, that should be a trilogy like they planned earlier.
You can't really make the story fit the gameplay. TR2013 had the same issue. She was so full of emotionals after her first kill, then in the gameplay we killed dozens of them.
In the developers notes, they say that the guards were supossed to be taken out not killed. Maybe thats why you have gun like a taser and another that makes them pass out.
