It's not just about the skill (which is obviously off the charts); it's also about the pure joy he exudes when performing, that makes him such a pleasure to listen to.
Yeah i doubt there has ever been, or ever will, anyone who puts so much emotion into playing as he does, you can ALWAYS see is is 100% in it with full joy, what a talent 🙂
EVH used to play just like this. Not in terms of style or anything. But the emotion he put into his music and the smile on his face when he played contributed to his sound so much. He was such a talent. RIP Eddie!🥰
@@moisty254 The fact that Tommy Emmanual is the best doesn't mean everyone else is lacking. There are many excellent guitar players, too many to name. I have my favorites and you have yours but I don't think anyone reaches the pinnacle of "gifted" the way Tommy does.
This is 2021. I've listened to music my whole life, and I'm a professional musician. Tommy's been playing for decades. And yet, here I am listening to details I didn't know existed in guitar. What a master.
He's not playing a guitar with his fingers, but playing it with his heart/soul and bringing the audience for a spiritual ride! Wow! Always inspired and grateful Tommy! Thks!
@Chad Lajiness the song he was playing is a religious song and to me it looks like he is happy playing it beautifully for his creator and can appreciate what the song means. Always someone who has to be the speech and thought police on here.
@@KelliAnnWinkler Hello!!! How are you doing today, please pardon me for intruding into your privacy but I just wanted to know if you’re a fan ? Have a great day… Stay Safe!
@@KelliAnnWinkler Hey! That’s very good to know, I just can’t stop myself from listening to this song anytime am alone! If I may ask which of all his songs is your favorite? Have a great day… Stay Safe
Most musicians with this kind of talent usually go off on some avant-garde tangent in their later years. Maybe because they get bored with "traditional" music styles, but Tommy continues to make amazing versions of traditional tunes that I never get tired of listening to.
John Newton, 1779 Verse 1 Amazing Grace how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see. Verse 2 ‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed! Verse 3 Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; ‘Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home. Verse 4 The Lord has promised good to me, His Word my hope secures; He will my Shield and Portion be, As long as life endures. Verse 5 Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease, I shall possess, within the veil, A life of joy and peace. Verse 6 The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, The sun forbear to shine; But God, Who called me here below, Will be forever mine. Verse 7 When we’ve been there ten thousand years, Bright shining as the sun, We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise Than when we’d first begun.
There’s no more crucial moment in a persons life then when he or she is encountered by God , that moment sets in Motion the rest of one’s life... i’m 37 years sober now because at the age of 38 God revealed himself to me.. I am now in my late seventies .God has been so good to me , and for me... God has restored all my family relationships from my ex-wives to my sons, have all been restored because of him 🙏 Thank you Father “ forgiveness is the best thing ever”
For a long time I was in denial thinking that there must be somebody that's as good as Tommy. Thirty years later I still haven't found anyone who comes close to this mans talent.
I've seen so many great guitarist's and honestly none of them is like tommy. Tommy he's just in another level, he is the god father of finger style of this generation. Just amazing.
@@ExpertatZero0 not much, but in this video, no no!!! Luca, Marcin, Misko are our god fathers, they use tapping, nice bass line and so much percussion. I try to become like them. Tommy is a guitarist for old ppl type, sorry.
@@piortiq9795 Sorry Plort IQ u really sucked in yr reply u know cause u see Iam also fan of Marcin ,misko ,Eddie,etc.. u may be right that here in this video he didn't add too much except fingerstyles ,harmonics, and arpeggios but u can't judge him only with this one just go and check every video of Tommy then comment ,one more thing is like other music is never static it keeps changing through ages and willl keep changing ...are u a guitar player too
@@nemesis0217 bro, I'm guitar player too, and I am using only fingerstyle to play, and I know, what fingerstyle is. And I know, what is arpeggio, and I know, what is arpeggio with fingerstyle. I have played in this style more than 2 years, so trust me, what we hear in this video, this is not Fingerstyle (f8ck this word).
I used to call myself a guitar player, that is, until I saw Tommy open up for Ricky Scaggs and Kentucky Thunder... from that point I started to call myself a guitar plunker. T E is the best I've ever seen... strictly in MY OPINION, he's the GOAT! He may not be YOUR GOAT, but he's mine.
@@tose917 Only reason I said it that way was because BB King is deceased. I heard him live three times. I've never heard Tommy live. BB was the greatest musician alive until his relatively recent death. So help me God one cannot record what BB did live. Close to a religious experience for me. I've never heard nothin like it. I'm not familiar with many great musicians but I have been to The Mountain!
watching this with wide open mouth, geeeses, the last time I was this impressed and humble before a genius, was when i saw Gary Moore with Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker in Stockholm 1994. Holy moly what a guitarplayer, Mr Tommy Emmanuel!
God is good, to have blessed us with this man. And what grace God extends to us through His son Jesus, and this, celebrated in this arrangement. Thank you Tommy for blessing me today and helping me look upward!
I've played acoustic guitar for a long time, and I said 'oh shit' and 'Damn' more than a lot a times during this. Great spirit and presence from Tommy E dog!
I had the good fortune to win a competition the prize was double tickets, best sets in the house, his new CD and meeting him backstage after the show. He was brilliant.
I once commented on one of Tommy's more humble performances, and some young gentleman in all of his sincerity and uninformed knowledge made an attempt to enrich me that today there are some equivalent "pickers". OK, so I completely and professionally informed him while there are some truly good pickers out there, Tommy Emmanuel also does not rely on polished production when he plays. He could, but he doesn't, as his live performance are always insanely brilliant. This performance is as are too many others, a testament of Tommy's unabashed guitar genius.. Passionate, deep, and with a smile, Tommy will play ALL OF the instrument.. To which there is no equal. Thank you Mr Emmanuel for showing us, as well as playing, such Amazing Grace.
Wow, some people (above responders) don't know a compliment when they hear one. Consider, I do play guitar for over 40 years, have seen his show here in NYC several times (have you), and am a huge fan, you're not saying anything. Tommy has oodles of production skills, but the comment wasn't about that. Get a life. Can you now, can you tell, I don't play guitar. Lol. Brilliant.
We met in Parramatta Gaol at a church service, myself sitting there knowingly shitting myself awaiting the arrival of this man Tommy Emmanuel. The choir director at the time had arranged him to come play at church, as they had known each other through session and touring work. I can only say what a priviledge to meet, see, hear and play with this absolute gentleman of a man! Bless you Tommy x
3:28 what a otherworldly ending. He literally makes an acoustic guitar sound like a Rhoades electric piano! It's 13 notes, and gets them to sustain and layer atop each other, with the clever use of harmonics. This is so difficult to do with only 6 strings! Just brilliant, brilliant player.
Kaish....My God ...... I salute grace and the oil on your head please bishop .... I am soaked straight away into this anointing of yours please archbishop of guitar
If you ever see it he has one guitar with a small cross on in quotation marks with the word TRUST underneath it. At the bottom of the neck on the guitar...... Thank you Jesus!
More the the playing of the song, is the BELIEVING of that Amazing Grace that has come to this world, for without it, there is no reason for the song being played. John 3:16-18 (KJV) 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
I actually went to one of his shows and it's really amazing, he's very very very very skilled with the guitar, so I got my first acoustic guitar and started learning it inspired by him! Great job Tommy :)
