Fine sportsmen they both may be, but Fowler's been playing mediocre at best for most of this year and one of the weakest members of the US team this year. IMO, Zach should have picked Bryson or DJ instead to put some fear into the Euros. Was anyone afraid of Fowler? Or Spieth? Or Burns? SMH...

@@Diogenes-ty9yy I definitely would have chosen Bryson and DJ and probably Glover. Fowler has performed well over the past 12 months so I expected that pick. I thought the most questionable ones were Burns, JT, and Spieth. The only reason JT got picked was because of his sterling Ryder Cup record, but I think for the most part he justified himself this week. Burns also played well. Spieth, on the other hand, was extremely disappointing. Fading at the end has been a trend for him the past couple of years and especially so this weekend. In any case, I don't think the Euros were afraid of anyone. The relish the Ryder Cup and just played better.

Based on how Rickie had been playing, there’s higher percentage that Rickie might miss his incoming putt than Tommy’s. So it’s understandable that he conceded. European team deserved to win this one. They played better in general this week.

Not saying what Rickie did was right or wrong, but a Fleetwood two putt wouldn't have ensured the win or even a half point for Europe

@@part-timejaffa6045 A Fleetwood 2 putt WOULD have Won the hole...As he would have only taken 3 shots on a par 4 and it would have meant a birdie.....Rickie had already taken 3 shots and the best he could have hoped for was a 4 shot par if he holed his next shot. If I was Rickie, I wouldn't have conceded and it wouldn't have been unsportsmanlike because that 2nd putt for Tommy was far enough away to have been missable, especially given the enormous pressure of it being a Ryder Cup winning putt(remember Langer?) And also young Bob Macintyre had missed a putt from less than 3 feet. If Tommy had 3 putted and Ricky had gotten a par, then Tommy would have been one up with 2 to play and with the pressure building on him. Also the pressure would have been felt in the other remaining games, which were still close enough to go either way........but once Rickie conceded......All the pressure was off. Tommy was lightning quick to pick his ball up after the concession as if worried that it might be withdrawn.LOL. I was totally supporting Team Europe and was so surprised and delighted that Rickie conceded when I thought Tommy needed to have gone about another 2 feet further with his first putt to have the hole conceded. Great Ryder Cup match though.

@@whenisasnakeatail4933 In matchplay only putts you know won't be missed are conceded and putts longer than that are rarely conceded. And of course I know, I'm a scratch golfer. Gary Player wouldn't have conceded it in Fowlers position. When the pressure is on you should make him roll it in unless it's a gimme. Another European player missed a putt just as short on another green only a few minutes before this. Conceding putts that should be holed is not being a gentleman, it's a blunder.

The problem with Team USA, is there's no 'I' in 'Team'. Did well in the singles. But messed up the twosomes. There it is.

@@DeclarationOFPolitics No it's not. Stop making excuses. Europe raced into a pretty much insurmountable lead, and USA couldn't recover. Typical builder, blaming his tools. Team USA lost virtually all the pairings, and that's the end of it.

IMO, Friday set the tone for the outcome. Another RC opening day where the US team is sleepwalking in the morning sessions and awakes a bit in the afternoon. The Euro hit the ground running on Friday; the Americans were stumbling out of the gate. Saturday and Sunday, it was almost even but the 5 point hole was dug on Friday and the Americans never did climb out.

No, Europe setting up the course to play to USA weaknesses (driving accuracy and mid-iron approach play) with narrow fairways and heavy rough was key. Great planning.
