My dad was journalist and a friend of his sent The Nose to him on a cassette tape years ago. We played it every Thanksgiving at the end of dinner (after lots of wine) and at Christmas Eve again at our annual dinner with the neighbors. It came to be completely identified with the joy and laughter of our holidays. And they were filled with them.
Tommy and Simers just had this connection that isn't explainable, Tommy getting his feathers all ruffled and Simers letting Tommy combust, then comes back with a one-liner to make Tommy Sh%t his pants LOL "How do you spell it?"
I knew I needed a good laugh. So I chose this. I was not wrong in my assessment. Thank you Tommy Lasorda. God rest in peace. My favorite will always be when he said Kurt bevacqua couldn't hit water if he fell out a boat. Classic
I love Lasorda’s mock outrage about Bevacqua’s accusation. In a gentle, thoughtful voice: That is very very bad for that man to make an accusation like that. Followed by a bald faced lie about never ordering pitchers to throw at hitters. Lol.
They don't make them like this anymore - and they most likely never will because of social media, PC, and EVERYTHING being recorded - which is "horse shit" sad! By the way, love a good profanity laden monologue - it's a lost FUCKING art!
If only the post game interviews today were anywhere near this entertaining I’d watch everyone of them. Instead all we get are the same canned responses over and over again.
Dittos! YOU ever hear the one when Lasorda Tells Davey Lopes "Get the Fk" outta here!" He goes on about him how he can't field or hit so shut the Fk Up! I think there might be part of it with Doug Rau being relieved by Lasorda.
"Garvey?! Garvey(!) needed a fucking OAR to hit the fucking ball Today! ...I'd a tell ya, he'd of made a fucking great fucking cricket player; hit the ball in one fucking bounce!" One of the best, RIP Tommy Baseball
Never ask lasorda about kingmans performance. Lol how mad he is about his 7 rbi's & the reporter adds fuel by correcting him he had 8 rbi's. I was dying about him talking about bavaqua and him not hitting water if he fell out of a boat. I thought that quote originated in the movie bull Durham. Who is he talking about from the news mike lupica? He sounds so much like pesci when he said " put that in ur paper tj. " you are a spy" wonder if pesci channeled lasorda when he screamed at spider in goodfellas.
Don't hold back there Tommy, how do you really feel? I liked his answer about pitching to Jack Clark; that he had the first guess as manager of the team, and all of you other #$&$%^ get the second guess. Of course I wouldn't have pitched to Clark if I knew he was going to hit a homer, but he hadn't hit anything all day or in the previous game.
