Good sparing partner , what was his record 105 wins --69 lost, all these fight was from high school, bar fights , fucking with people fights, at home fights, and he did all his road work on the inside.
The announcers didn't disappoint,.......they never have a clue. One guy called 2 punches low that weren't low. After the knockdown, the referee asked,....are you alright? Halstead said,......'very'. the announcers had a couple answers for that, neither was right. In the 2nd or 3rd round, one announcer said that Halstead was only knocked out 4 times in over 80 fights. The other guy said,....'well,.......if Tommy can knock him out it will be a feather in his hat'. The guy had all his fights in Oklahoma, and 4 guys knocked him out. If Morrison couldn't knock him out it would have been surprising. The other 4 guys from Oklahoma couldn't have been near the level of fighter that Morrison was. I can imagine the day after at the gym. Morrison walks in and says,.....I got a knock out last night. Someone asks who he fought,............Tommy says Wimpy Halstead. That's not getting Morrison any feather in any hat. He would get laughed at.
Wimpy Halstead was anything but. He boxed for 17 years from 1980 to 1997, always came to fight, always fought good fighters. Been in allot of wars, got knocked out allot, but still came back. He was allot more than a journey man, he was a true boxer.
Doesn't calling yourself "wimpy" give a psychological advantage to all your opponents. Halstead was a much better fighter than you'd initially perceive from looking at him.

Only IGNORAMUSES can accuse Halstead of being a sissy. Anyone who has followed boxing realises that Halstead has no chance of wining unless he uses every trick he has learned to survive. Most boxers are people who have regular jobs and attempt a side career in boxing. This has been the case since the beginning. Only the superstars get the best trainers, etc.
What a well spoken guy the Duke was. He was a gentleman as well. His weaknesses ruined his career. God Rest His Soul. Had he lived clean, he would have beat anyone they put in front of him.
@@martincurran6432 the greatest fighters of all time manage to lose. Although there are a couple that managed to slip by without a loss with some luck. The Duke wasn’t perfect, but had he stayed focused on boxing instead of chasing Skirts in his free time, he certainly would have finished his career at the top. Mercer felt the power, lucky for him the Duke gassed himself out, or the outcome would have been different.

Jerry "Wimpy" Halstead was a great local fighter from Oklahoma, but when he stepped up into the big leagues he lost.. A good tough journeyman. Check him out on boxrec.
To be fair, this was prime Morrison here. I enjoyed Halstead thru Foreman. It was after the Foreman fight that Tommy fell apart, his performances from Toia-Lewis were dreadful and showed his decline.
