While it's rare I'll venture into the upper reaches of the country chart, this song's so damn bouncy and good I couldn't help it! Oh, if they only had tunes like this on the radio today maybe I'd listen to more than 5 minutes of "country music" today before getting blood bubbling from my ear canals. A #11 hit in 1978.

This song and "Shadows of Love" are two songs that take me back to being a 10 year old again.

Just for fun information. The original release to radio stations had the stations call letters in place of "favorite radio show" here in Kansas City it was KCKN or WDAF when I heard it. KCKN "Kickin' Country" is now KFKF and WDAF "61 Country" is now "The Wolf" both moved from the AM dial to FM. Sure miss AM radio you could listen for miles before "fadin in, fadin' out" and then was gone. LOL

I've lived in Fairmont, West Virginia, all my life, and my local station WPDX (750 AM) inserted their call letters as did 1080 WEEP (Pittsburgh). I understand WHN (1050 NYC, now defunct) did. Man, what I wouldn't give to hear THAT one!

@@TheBrooklynbodine Yes, I listened to this great song on WHN in New York City, the first NYC station to dab into country music. "Listenin' on WHN," great days, great songs, this one you couldn't get out of your head.

Thank you, sir, for your reply! He no doubt said "Interstate 40" on the WHN version, but for NYC, I'd think the Cross-Bronx Expressway or the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway would've been more appropriate. How I'd love to have WHN's version!

In Northern California it was "Listenin' to KRAK Radio". As a kid I was impressed that a hit country song mentioned my favorite station. I didn't know that there was a version for each station. What a clever idea, and a great way to get lots of airplay! And it's a great song. Thank you for taking me back almost fifty years!

2 country singer had impact in their voices, Buck Owens like a freight train and Tommy Overstreet like a Mack Truck.

I was a teenager working for WBC0-AM in our county seat city of Bucyrus, Ohio. We had an afternoon country music program than ran through late afternoon drive time. It was very popular. Tommy Overstreet was a favorite of our listeners. Bill Histed, Mulberry, Florida

A great meaty piece of country music from Tommy who really came up trumps during the 70's in terms of chart entries which regularly hit the top 20 and top 10 spots. This upload is a case in point.

Haven't visited your collection for awhile. Nice to see you're still posting those great '70s and '80s country gems. Overstreet is barely remembered today, but he was a solid country singer. My favorite by him is "From Woman to Woman," from a couple of years earlier. Bet you have it!

I saw at Wikipedia tonight (12-3-15) that Tommy Overstreet died November 3. Several stations had a "personalized" version of this song, in that Tommy Overstreet used the station's call letters, as opposed to "listening to my favorite country show". What I wouldn't have given to have heard WHN's (NYC) version of this song. Tommy Overstreet was a cousin of 1920s singer Gene Austin. RIP, T.O!

I heard Tommy say that they picked what they thought was a made up set of call letters (WFMS) and they had to change the lyrics, since WFMS was real. Of course WFMS played that version but no on else did, locally in Indianapolis,

I did not know that. A couple stations within my ability to receive them (I've lived in Fairmont, West Virginia all my life), namely WPDX in Clarksburg and WEEP in Pittsburgh, had their "personalized" versions. One other thing. Tommy Overstreet said he was tooling down interstate 40. That goes through Tennessee and North Carolina, It would have been something to have picked up WHN and the two other stations I mentioned on Interstate 40. In NYC, it would've been more appropriate to say "Brooklyn-Queens Expressway" or "Cross Bronx Expressway", to name just two.

Dave Hascall: Did he make up "WYDE radio" too? (WYDE was a country station located in Birmingham, Alabama.)

KRAK had a personalized version. "...listenin' to KRAK radio..." That was a terrific station for decades, until the private equity groups ruined everything.

GREAT record. Then again, I'm a sucker for any song about radio. "Our" version was for WSAI.

I have often listened to the radio on the road in fringe reception areas, so I can relate to the literal meaning of the lyrics.
