Have tried to figure out the name of this song for many years ... Today my son helped me. I could remember parts of it but many tried to say it was other songs. Nope , nope , nope .. So glad for the internet . Thank you for posting it . Many fond memories captured again :)
Woke from a dream of Tommy & I having yet another chat about the music industry and he and his great music was on my mind. I had the great privilege to share the stage (and dressing room) with Tommy and his band during the summer of 1990. We were performing our country music at the then (a new bank sits there now) "The Warren Stokes Country Revue Theatre" in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Tommy and I became fast friends. He was a generation before me and had always been one of my many mentors in music. What a talent was T.O.! Also, what a good guy. At the end of our summer season, Tommy presented me with one of his beautiful stage shirts. He had worn the shirt on various television shows around the world and on an album cover. It's black, has a western, pearl snap bib and is embroidered with a large awesome eagle in white thread. If you watch closely the video above, he's wearing it in a shot where he's turned sideways to the camera and has on gray slacks. Tommy once said to me (after he and his wife took in our show), "Austin, you my friend have everything it takes to make it big in this business. All you need is that one special song." Now that Tommy's earthly life has ended, I miss him even more. One thing's for certain, "Heaven Is His Own Love". I have no doubt about that. Fine, talented, gracious, loving man. Sing one for me T.O.! ...and I'll sing one of your's for you. -oO( ❤ )Oo-
Makes me remember when j first got married 20 years old 🌸 Only 5 ft tall, Singing and playing my guitar was so great! Still kept up my house and a job 👏🏻👏🏻 Had a precious son that I rode on the “Swing Set” with working in my garden with my hair in a long ponytail tied with ribbons every day and we All grew up kinda together!🎼 Great Song ♥️✨
I remember when this song was played on KLAC, in L.A. and I would sing along with it at the top of my voice. Two decades later, I bought 2 CDs just to have it in my own musical library
It's been a long time since I have heard this one....Awesome post!!!! Love it!!!! Tommy Overstreet was so underrated. It seem as if Nashville didn't give him too much attention. He was solid and had a world of talent.
Oh my gosh I thinking husband Bill feels this way about me, lol I can be a real pain but loves me so much and love him very, very much too as we are celebrating our first wedding anniversary in two weeks. I adore you William Koeppel.
***(This One Goes "Up" To My Good Friend T.O.)*** Hello Diane O., It's been years since we met, became friends and shared the same stage/theatre in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. It was my second of the three and a half wonderful years I had the pleasure to perform at "The Warren Stokes Country Revue" music theatre. I was just twenty-five that summer, had the whole world to conquer and vast oceans to cross. My, how fast the sand slips through the hourglass. I will turn fifty-four on the 24th. I've been sitting here reflecting and listening to my old friend Tommy Overstreet's music. What a voice. What a talent. What a gentleman and lasting legacy. I will never forget Tommy pulling me to the side one evening after our show and telling me..."Son, all you need is that special song." He would a few days later, give me his very handsome, black, embroidered, eagle bib shirt (he's wearing it in the above video, sitting across the couch with his arms crossed) he had worn on his album cover and on several different television shows. He said, "I will give it to you Austin, if you promise you will wear it." I've worn it many, many times over the years and have pictures to prove as much. I still have and cherish the shirt and your husband's thoughtfulness. Several years later, I too would make my journey to "Music City", record several "demos" and shop them myself around to the various labels. This particular track "Almost Home" was written by Leona Williams and Johnny Slate. It spoke to my heart. I recorded it for both of my Grandfathers. Two songs during that session I completed in one pass. This is one of them. No lead overdubs and no pitch correction (you see used so often these days). This was recorded to 2" analog tape, so no Pro Tools either. I wanted you to hear it (and I have complete faith that Tommy will be listening right along with you). I hope this message finds you and your beautiful kids doing well. Love & Hugs from an old/er friend, Austin Glen Wiser - Nashville, Tennessee (...the kid that sang "Rose Colored Glasses" every night in Eureka Springs.) ~oO(
