Tommy Tallarico, in charge of the Intellivision Amico, invited me to take a tour through one of the largest video game console collections on the planet. He has nearly 70% of all major video game consoles ever made, and too much information to squeeze into one video. I'll do my best here.
The most passionate gamers I’ve ever seen. He knows his video games, and the history of video games. Why they fail and what makes them succeed. This is proof.
Thank you for this experience, Tommy. It's certainly one for the ages.

Jeff, first big crash was actually in 1978 - nearly took out video games as a niche market. Fairchild's system flopped, RCA's system was horribly outdated and tanking within months of launch, Pong clones (including all those colorful Odyssey _00 consoles) were no longer selling and largely being clearanced; even Atari which *just launched* in mid 77 had underwhelming sales. Nolan Bushnell was forced out late that year with so much unsold inventory and tens of millions of Warner's money vanishing. The one saving grace - Warner exec Raymond Kassar, who was tasked to spend time at Atari to size up the operation, said it was a complete mess, **but** he saw the promise of the 2600/VCS and said it was a brilliant machine that would mint money - if it just had a little time to breathe and exposure. By the end of 79 sales were in the millions and Intellivision launched its first test-market launch in Fresno. And a major industry emerged.

Seeing these videos with Tommy Tallarico is absolutely amazing. I saw him years ago on G4 and never realized that he created the audio of so many of my favorite games in my teen years. Aladdin, Cool Spot, Earthworm Jim; etc. Awesome collection too! Addendum: I was watching the video with my young son who has become fascinated with old consoles (I don't know where that could have come from...) and he surprisingly knew most of the consoles Tommy showed.
@TommyTallarico77

Amazing that your young son knew a lot of them! That's GREAT!! Gotta pass on the history to keep it alive! Love it!!
@GenerationalGamer

@@TommyTallarico77 , When I started with RU-vid, I had to rebuild much of my 16-bit library (some 8-bit too). Like many teens, I sold some of the games "that I would never play again" and forgot about them; until 2018. Now these games have skyrocketed in price. I would take my son (and daughter too, but she's not as interested) and we would go around the various local retro stores and look for games at good prices. I took that time to introduce him to the Odyssey, Atari VCS/2600, 5200, Intellivsion (I also still have my Intellivision II from my childhood) and its variants along with some others that are escaping me right now. For a while, he spent most of his time playing my NES (still works well, although I don't use it anymore and migrated to FPGA), Genesis and SNES. I was initially concerned about him handling optical media, but after showing him how to handle it properly he is fine, but he prefers cartridges. I am not entirely sure why, he thinks the concept of a game cartridge is fascinating and I have encouraged it. He knows his history too! Thanks for responding!

Really educational video here and I loved it. I never knew that Nintendo's actual first attempt at video games was a pong machine. Always thought it was the Game and Watch. You learn something new every day. Tommy has a great crib. The shower adds a nice touch that I feel completes the package 👌.

@Smash JT happy to hear our game was the one that came to mind as an example of something that could only exist on the Amico. My wife and I designed it and we've been busting up laughing over the prototypes with friends for years before we finally found a console that brought everything we needed into one package.

By far the best video ever thus far. Wow Tommy has gaming history. An idea for Tommy for displaying his collection for a museum. There’s a museum in the OC called Bowers museum. Not far from his house. Would be great for a short period of time to display his collection of gaming history and have awareness of his future project with the Intellivision. Also there are other museums in SoCal that can be used for this. The guy to contact at Bowers would be Peter Keller. Just a thought. Hope there’s more to come from Tommys house of history.

@@SmashJT This is pretty much exactly what I expected his house to be like but it's still so damn cool to see. Anyone that doesn't think Tommy is a gaming fan and putting his heart and soul into Amico has never seen him talk about games. He exudes passion. By the way, I really appreciate that you let him be the focal point here and had him doing 95% of the talking. A lot of other people would find it difficult to put their ego aside and instead try to make a video about them and Tommy. You handled this like a true pro. Kudos.
