I vehemently disagree that gatekeeping information makes the hobby more fun. What it does is make the hobby less accessible. And people who think this way will be the reason this hobby dies.
It really depends. Gatekeeping wheel specs or silly stuff like that is super dumb. Gatekeeping places to get certain parts keeps those parts affordable for people who scrounge and work to find them. I get what your saying but from my POV it allows me to afford nice stuff without the hype beast/tiktok trend premium.

Would you rather have less of the thing at a TikTok premium, or none of the things due to government regs. I’m telling you guys, I’m a transportation designer and I’m often in circles where the future of transportation and mobility is discussed. And I would lying if I said the future of this hobby is not in jeopardy. Gatekeeping isn’t the whole story, and it’s not the only reason this hobby might die, but it CERTAINLY doesn’t help.

Wish everyone knew what fyeah did to one of the closest people to him in the scene. Literally threatening the dudes friends over RU-vid bs. Basically used and manipulated his friend, then scammed the person who got him more exposure in the beginning then anyone else. Then split ways like the friendship never happened. Dudes one of the most cut throat business men out there in the US/JDM scene up there with the guy who screwed over T-Pain and the pickle rick s15. Time goes on and people forget though.
I feel the same way about the "gatekeeping" part. For someone to spend alot time, money, and energy into solving problems to just give information away for free just doesn't make sense. Too many now a days just want the answer and don't want to invest in their own time to learn how to solve the problem. The struggle is what makes the car special. It 's what makes it worth it and proud to put ones own name on it.
As a 13+ year Miata owner,Tommy is absolutely right. The cars are decent. The owners are generally the worst. However with the cost skyrocketing for miatas that should help keep the riff raff away from them.
Love @tommyfyeah's take on builds. He's a breath of fresh air in the car youtuber scene, I wish he would go back to uploading consistently. He keeps it real on builds and is trying to elevate the game which I respect a lot. I think he missed the mark on the gt3 "only" having 415 hp and why porsche guys like NA. GT cars are for driving enthusiasts and NA is so well revered for the throttle response. I guess that would be the only blind spot he has imo. Think he prefers speed over feel and driver engagement but we all have our preferences... Thanks for having him on, it was a great conversation.

I know he did the HKS giveaway but the 350z and the S14 white zenki were supposed to be next but ever since the drama happened not sure what went on after that. I never subscribed so I don’t know the status.

You can't be serious right? Shops have been building them for 30 years. Japan has been making crazy power. Most shops won't turn away money. He gets machine work done on engines all the time. We see countless times that his builds don't run well without jack or Roberto touching them. He still needs to tune the engine and we see alot of the builds have issues. If people want to overspend to have a clean bay that's on them.

There's way more than 4 places that make true forged wheels APP makes forging in the USA and Italy. BBS, Motegi, Rays, Yokohama's Advan, and a bunch of other manufacturers that mainly work for contract and put whatever logo you want on them.

So, the setup on the green civic dx was a type r motor. New from Honda. New type r head milled 20 thousandths. Jdm type r trans with 4.78 final drive. Comp tech header. Car was tuned on hondata in Miami and made 185whp. Back then it was good power. Another local guy went 12.2 at 114mph in an all motor crx with that combo. (Gsr block, type r pistons, etc). Great memories though, was the beginning of the Honda game.

But what i will say his builds are not special which is definitely okay but then he trashes everything that’s special. Like i dont own a KA24 but their are some real deal dudes out there making amazing power winning competitions for real. So i don’t know. Dude is just selling what he does.

Most wheel companies, including Japanese ones, buy blanks from the forgeries and then cut the blanks in-house, it's the same source and same material, that said, there are a lot of shitty wheels out there made from unforged material, that will bend in the best situation or break in the worst.
He’s so right about people taking clapped out cars and putting an angle kit on it and welding the diff then disregarding everything else and calling it a drift car. It’s an excuse most of the time.
A manual 997.1 or 997.2 Carrera is the way to go! It’s got a ton of room for mods, not as costly to get into, and perform very well and are reliable when taken care of. Building one on my channel now!

Without even mentioning tires, Imagine building a car to drift, ordering whatever aero and wheels etc from Japan, painting it, just to more than likely have your aero explode, more than likely crash, having to replace susp arms, replacing hard to find body panels like jdm front ends, oem headlights, etc and having to do it all over again before the next event. Vs a drag race weekend which very rarely ends in a crash or having to replace your aero and getting a fresh paint job every season. Mind you this is at the grassroots level of drifting.
