Here is my custom Duke. I bought a knock off Duke a while back, so here shows the changes I made. These include painting the buffer beam red, repainting the cab roof, adding front cab windows, painting the safety valve bronze, moulding a neutral and angry face, and adding moving side-rods.
The addition of moving side rods was a last minute change. After making Atlas, I decided I should give my other narrow gauge engines moving side rods. Originally I was content with having none of my narrow gauge engine shaving moving side rods, but I decided to change that.
Butttt then I saw this post by the Iron Engine and I impulsively went a bought a bunch of nakayoshi narrow gauge engines... so I have since abandoned the idea to give my other engines moving side rods... whoops. At least Duke looks cool right? / 1374338693360578564
The moving side-rods required me to cut away Duke's fake piston valve, and sand down the underside/inside of his cab to make as much room as I could for the side rods to pass. I then had to do the same to the side rods. I sanded down the section of side rods that pass under the cab so there was enough room for the wheels to spin. It looks a little stupid in real life, because the side rods just flatten out halfway across, but I really like the final result when he is moving.
I hope you enjoy! Subscribe for more.
Next up is a showcase of my custom narrow gauge rolling stock.
